When I had fs 2002, back when I was close to to 6, that was basically the only airport I ever flew on cause I didn't know how to change the airports. I had no idea it is now gone.

I'm from Chicago and I thought miegs field was great because you could just fly straight into the city. O'hare is about a 30-40 minute drive from Chicago so it's inconvenient for people that live in the city to have to get transportation to and from the airport while they used to be able just hop on the bus.
I was playing the FSX one day and remember about this airport and decided to fly to it just for fun. I didn't know yet that it was destroyed, so I took off from O'hare in my Beech Baron at night and flew towards where I remembered it would be from playing previous FS. Anyways, I lined up and switched the cam view to flyby and almost crashed but pulled up in the last second.

Mayor Daley was worried about planes being close to the buildings after 9/11. But, with no airport around here, the airspace is now much less restricted, meaning planes can legally fly up to 1000 feet near the buildings.
I did my first solo from Louisville, KY's Bowman Field (KLOU) to Meigs Field, Chicago, IL (KCGX) on September 29th, 2000. It was the greatest day of my life. I wish it was still there, I would love to have that feeling again.
He should be strung up by his rubber parts for doing this to something that has been part of the central part of downtown Chicago. I cant even begin to tell you of all the history behind the airport....And the United 727 that hangs in the Museum of Science and Industry landed at Meigs after being donated by United Airlines.

Mayor Daley did it because his wife wanted a park there. I have been there since it's been a park and no one was there. It's sad because that was such a great place to fly into. A Democratic politician with another failed idea.. what's new?

@cessna421ace That's not true, nor is any story about the Mrs. Daily not liking the view it from their apartment. My family has been friends with the Dailey's since the 60's and the next time I see him in Michigan over the summer, I will ask him why he really did it. By that time he won't be mayor anymore so things should be different.

As a Flight Simulator fan, I do have to agree that Dayley should really care about Flight Sim fans who loved Meigs Field. However, since he didn't he really needs to fucking go to hell!

What a shame! I logged many hours flying to and from Meigs Field in all the past MS flight sim versions. It was such a perfect, little airport, and now it's gone.

Yeah, it was a sad day for us Flight Simmers when one final aircraft took off, and the runway lights switch off forever....Get Dayley on the phone and ask him to play MSFS (either FS98 or FS2002)....to show how great an airport Meigs was.

Mayor Daley was worried about planes being close to the buildings after 9/11. But, with no airport around here, the airspace is now much less restricted, meaning planes can legally fly up to 1000 feet near the buildings.

I did my first solo from Louisville, KY's Bowman Field (KLOU) to Meigs Field, Chicago, IL (KCGX) on September 29th, 2000. It was the greatest day of my life. I wish it was still there, I would love to have that feeling again.

He should be strung up by his rubber parts for doing this to something that has been part of the central part of downtown Chicago. I cant even begin to tell you of all the history behind the airport....And the United 727 that hangs in the Museum of Science and Industry landed at Meigs after being donated by United Airlines.

@hkdylan - that didn't also happen to Kai Tak. The airport was being outgrown by the aircraft and it was a harzard to fly in and out. They built a brand new airport 12 miles away.

wtf? tyhere are billions of airports in the world . why close this one? why not close gatwick or seattle? did all the airports get closed down cus of that? no. the only airports that must get closed down are the airports that had the 9/11 planes in. hope daley gets really bad AIDS!

He always wanted to turn the airfield into a Garden named after his Wife. The City of Chicago got hit so hard and Fast by the FAA for what they did. The FAA must approve all aspects of anything to do with airports. Which they never told the FAA what they where going to do. Guy that lives here in my Town had a PLane up there. The City of Chicago impounded the Cessna, Fined the Guy, and then made him Send the plane back on a truck(they took it apart fo him)... Pretty Fucked up. RIP Meigs..

sry to say, but FSX is just speaking the truth NO MORE MEIGS! Im as dissapointed as u are, but it was destroyed, so they took it off FS. My suggestion would be to download a freeware scenery of Meigs from the interne. hopeit helps!

I remember doing the crosswind landing tutoprial here in FS98 (I think) geez when I made my first landing (at like 10) I ran around the house screaming. :D
