  • Just got the compilation for the Wii last night :D

  • One of the only games I ever BEAT in the arcade. I think it cost me about $6 with a friend, but that was still 30 quarters, which back in the day was a night's worth of playing.

  • These Rambo-styled top-down games were the shit way back. Ikari Warriors, Bloody Wolf, Gun.Smoke, Commando (hard as hell!), a ton of others similar in nature...all owing to the very first one - the cartoony Front Line.

And when you got all the gun parts..."HEAVYYYY BARRELLLL!!" Then, explosions.

  • OMG this game was a classic. Shinobi, Double Dragon, Paperboy, Tiger Heli, Bad Dudes...the golden era of arcades.

  • This and Time Soldiers was the bomb. I can't believe they haven't released them on XBL Arcaded. Some one is just sitting on a possible cash cow.

  • I remember playing this game it brings back great memorie as a kid

  • Less than 1 week until this comes out on Wii!!! Soooooo excited!!!

  • i have this on the Wii (via Data East Arcade Classics) and it's ok. the one thing i don't like is that Heavy Barrel (under the classic controller's control scheme) won't make it playable on a fightstick such as the Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom arcade fightstick

  • @figment1988 Holly crap ! they have this on WII !!?? I have been playing my Xbox since I got it in July and I kept thinking gee why don't they bring out this game. I literally got a Wii a week ago when the red one came out and i havent gotten around to setting it up n turning it on...Muwahahahaha! I know what i will be doing for the next several hours now...right after i get a towell. Thanx for the post. !!

  • @RavenClaw88 fortunately, Data East arcade classics is a common budget title which is pretty much abundant in most Wal-Marts.

  • red grenades rock

  • I always wondered what the hell is happening to the guys you shoot in this game.

  • lol the nes version seems better =p

    UH UH AH OH

  • The NES port is actually better than the arcade version due to its fluent control.

    -kidThunder

  • maybe but the sound and music is much better in the arcade i have no problem with the rotary joysticks...

  • this arcade game can be found on Killer List of video games.{KLOV}

  • i used to finish this game with the heavy barrel weapon at the end...it was BRUTAL!

  • does everyone remember heavy metal the shoot em up?

  • It was a tank game, right?

  • yes

  • awesome game from back in the day, would love to see this remade... one of the best ikari warrior clones ever made...

  • Ahh heavy barrrel i use to play it alot in the arcades. Now G-mode has the rights to data east catalog of games,it would be nice if there was a compilation of the arcade titles they made for today consoles.

  • I totally agree. I loved all their action games. I own the arcade cabinets for both this and Midnight Resistance. G-mode should get ahold of some of these companies that do emulated compilations for the consoles.

  • Well i'll be there's been a dataeast collection announced for the Wii.I hope heavy barrel ends up being in it ~_^

  • Really?! Where'd you see or hear about this?!

  • Over at the forums in (digitalpress) and alot of sites have reported it all ready.

The game has been rated by the esrb too and, heavy barrel has made the cut.

  • Freakin' sweet!!!! I guess I'll have to get a Wii for this. It's cool. Been looking for an excuse to get one other than Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3. Thanks alot for the info. I wonder how it's going to control? I hope it has something similar to the way Smash TV was set up on SNES. I think that setup worked the best for these types of games that required the character to move and shoot independently. Did Midnight Resistance make it also? That was another Data East fave.

  • Heavvvvvvy Barrel!

  • Another one-coiner here for this one. My favorite weapon was that ball and chain grenade. If timed right, that thing took out any number of personnel. Great post.

  • Hey cool game.

    I'm view #666!!

  • i remember being inside the college cafeteria playing this game

hanging around with others, and planning the days,

and walking around in circles after playing too much lol

    ah man good times

(interesting how the thought came to mind)

  • I was the only person in my town that could beat this game in one coin, and I have fond memories of how everyone in the arcade would come watch my game as it began to shout "YOU DIE! YOU DIE! YOU DIE! ..." Though the ending would be anti-climatic as I was always able to get the Heavy Barrel in time to use against the final boss machine.

  • The final boss of Data East's other game titled "Sly Spy" also shouts "YOU DIE!", but immediately laughs out loud after that and repeats while puffing a cigar.

  • took one man to finish,i loved this game...and the rotating controler was great

  • I played this game all summer long when i was a kid

  • I could 1-coin this game when I was a kid. I had all the gun parts memorized so that I could pick up the Heavy Barrel to use on the toughest bosses. Man, I would love to see a collection of Data East's games like this, Midnight Resistance, and Vapor Trail. I wonder who owns the rights to them since they went under?

  • That would be sweet

  • Love this game you can get this game on the origeinal nes.sega genisis. The arcade game is better

  • if i may, i must correct a discrepancy here. the only console port for Heavy Barrel is the NES Port. as for the sega genesis, it never came out. but HB's "spiritual sequel" Midnight Resistance was ported on the genesis.
