Thanks Mickey, got myself a Carter Starter a couple of weeks ago - your lesson of blocking and this dexterity lesson is going to invaluable for me. Great stuff! Cheers, Laurie
Well, Mickey you just made me realize it's time to take the cover off my steel and start practicing. Thanks so much for the tips on pick blocking. I had no idea how to use an exercise to get it to work. You just solved that problem. You got a new fan.
Love this exercise!! At 1:45 you go to a D#(Eb) on the way to the 5 chord. It sounds good, I'm just curious how that works since it's not in the F or the C scale? Or do I have this wrong...
Hey Mickey, man, you know somebody's good when they make exercises sound so musical! Thanks for this lesson, have a student coming over tonight will pass some of this along and credit you...
very use full but very frustrating to do right.i could use good teacher one on one like you.thanks for all your efforts to keeping the steel going to us that are learning bob
mickey enjoy your helpfull lessons was wondering if you could do i'll come running by connie smith and weldon myrick i can't find a place to grt the tabs anywhere thanks bob in omaha
Yes, eddy, use conventional blocking with you palm for the lower strings...Email me back if you need to me to elaborate onthis for you ok?....Happy to record something for you...Mickey
Thank you for the fast reply, Mickey, and sorry for MY delay in getting back to you, but... what I SEE is that you ARE blocking the sixth string with your thumb pick... (see 1:32 to 1:40, 2:25 to 2:30, 2.52 to 3.03 or 3.05 to 3.15). It is all very confusing...
Maybe I'm missing something here: you accurately describe how you block string 3 and 5 with your fingers, but how (when) do you block the sixth string with your thumb? is it supposed to happen "automatically" in the whole movement?
Thanks for the lesson. I'm a beginner so this stuff really helps me. This is the 2nd video that features pick blocking, do you plan on a video for palm blocking? The pick blocking seems suited to repetive licks (same string pairing), but if you were moving to a different string pairing, you'd need to switch to palm blocking? I can get the notes down fine, but my stuff sounds like a mess with all thes extra notes ringing out. Thanks !

This should have been your excercise 1...it is much easier to understand what you are doing, as it relates to pick blocking.
