They got rid of shots of Mikey's nunchaku too (Ninja use them as a strangulation weapon-despite the fact that Mikey never used them for such a purpose on the actual show).

@AriesKnight78 this was for the British market, at the time there were strict rules on the depiction of Ninja parafanalia due to a press driven public panic in the early 80's. They also had to heavily cut the fight scenes with any hint of the nunchucks removed! For some reason British censors had a particular problem with Nunchucks and if they had been included the cartoon would of required an adult certificate - they butchered the film for the same reason in the UK.

Just to correct everyone here on a few things.

Despite being changed to Hero, the word Ninja was used a few times. In the episode invasion of the punk frogs Bebop says "but boss the turtles are trained Ninjas". It was also said in Shredderville.

We also see Mickey with his Nunchaku's in a few eisodes.

@VideozJudge The Amazing Race theme music and intro (the ones starting from the 14th Season onwards) is a thousand times better than this Ninja Turtles theme. It may be the TMMT theme you love, but the Ninja Turtles have NO chance of travelling out of New York so often. The turtles did travel to Europe in one side season, but in The Amazing Race, teams travel to many countries in all continents around the world. So for the turtles, wish them they can do that.

Depictions of nunchucks were banned after a rash of casualty admissions by kids that had bought or made their own, then proceeded to beat themselves around their heads and faces with them.
