this was a pretty surprisingly scene, mostly because gets taken down so explosively
it certainly works
at 0:40 he looks like a total lying scumbag in denial, a far cry from the suave, sophisticated intelligent alpha male he'd been built upto at that point in the series
its said that writer matthew weiner really loves toying with the audience's expectations, and he's certainly done it here
Also an interesting scene because it addresses that Don never has sex with whores (even though it would be way less troublesome for him if he did). I think the reason he doesn't must be because of his mother.
I think Don is a great character but Jimmy could not have been more right in this scene. Married man sleeping with a single woman is bad enough. Married man sleep with another man's wife. Jesus H....
What makes this scene so raw is that it's an insult that cuts right to the bone for Draper, he has always felt (and was often told as a child) that he's garbage. Of the many different insults Jimmy could have chosen, this one hit home.
This scene and the earlier scene where Jimmy clues in the clueless Mrs. Draper are my favorite moments in Mad Men. I love that someone finally told Draper what a prick he really is. Also thought it was great that Jimmy used him before he did it.
A powerful scene. Barrett is a relatively minor character but he is extremely well-written, a complex multi-dimensional character who has a razor-sharp and sometimes mean-spirited sense of humor but who also has integrity. Kudos to Barret, who finally calls Draper on his non-stop prevarication.
('Prevarication' is just a fancy-ass word for bullshit. Draper is full of it.)
The "Joker" calls the bluff..and calls a spade a spade! Funny how sometimes your reality can be called at any moment..I like this scene from Mad Men because, as I said, "The Joker called him on his entire bluff!! Sometimes I wonder if that was the show in a nutshell!! Good show!
@streamlord He's really an amalgam of different comics from that time I think. There's a little bit of Don Rickles, Jackie Mason, Jerry Lewis in there.
He's a liar and constantly cheats on his wife and denies everything when confronted. Is that your definition of a good guy? His character is complex and Jon Hamm is doing an amazing job with the role. I just wouldn't like to be married to a Don Draper. And seriously your question doesn't make any sense at all. So to enjoy the show, you gotta love Don? Ridiculous. There are other characters on the show you know?
Don is no angel, that's for sure. Hell, Jimmy Berret isn't an angel. Remember how he treated that fat woman. In my opinion, Don IS a good person. And, I personally don't watch shows when I hate the main character. Ensemble cast or not.
Any other examples of someone actually putting Don in his place?

@deionc Stop writing comments about what happens later in the show. It's extremely annoying for those who haven't watched all the seasons yet.
