in the movie : from here to eternity, the love scene of tenerness on the beach is a thrill, but, in my opinion, trhere is a much stronger love scene that is totally forgotten about. the first sergeant and thge captain's wife are at a luau and the most beautiful hawaiian long drum vocal music is being played in authenic hawaiian tongue-this scene is completely forgotten about as well as the name of the song email me the name to
one of my favorite films, what with Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Cliff, Deborah Kerr, Sinatra, the line up in itself was great, getting away from the rights or wrongs of the Military and whether it represented real life or not it still was great entertainment and nothing like it today
Hollywood totally sanitized the book which did not have anything good to say about military life, the corrupt captain does not get his comeuppance ,the brutal guards are never disciplined...
It was Rare for a "motion picture" to be considered "Great" back then? I guess they were still distrusting of this technology and viewed it as a lesser art.
Didn't know Joan Crawford walked out on this one. It would've revitalized her career yet again, like "All About Eve" did for Bette Davis around the same time. This is quite an entertaining movie, the book is even better, and of course this is in a class by itself for Frank Sinatra performances and relaunched his career from the doldrums into the stratosphere. His wife Ava Gardner apparently got him the part through Harry Cohn's wife, one of her pals.
@parmelee23 ~ I so agree with you. You get no taste of the movie from this trailer. I'm guessing that Colombia didn't think they needed more, given the controversy over the book at the time. One of Joan Crawford's biggest career errors was walking out of this movie at the elevnth hour, to be replaced by Deborah Kerr.
From Here to Eternity is #52 in the AFI's list of greatest movies of all time. I think it should be higher, it's wonderful. I'm watching all the movies online, here:
there is Pvt Witt, Sergeant Warden and so on, Its great movie about a human trying to fight for his dreams and live his values in the insane world,
Similar book but slightly different, also deep but full of humor is Paragraph 22 by Joseph Heller, I think there was a movie adaptation of this one too, wasnt it ?
I read the book and Im looking forward to see the movie, Jones is a very philosophical writer, I remember that when I was reading this book few years ago, I lived in in it and dreamed of it, For 2 months I was only in the world of a book, I cant get the second part of Jones trilogy The thin red line, Interesting thing is that the name of the characters and their fates remain similar but they are not the same people, In Eternity.. You have seargant Warden, Pvt Prewitt and so on, In Thin red line

Look for George Reeves (TVs SUPERMAN) in this movie. He was already playing Superman when he made this movie.

And all it took was a horse's head to get Frank Sinatra in this movie! For you Oakland Raiders fans, that's a "Godfather" reference.
