It's amazing how many professional "know it all's" watch and comment on other peoples videos. I mean, you'd think since they know everything, they wouldn't be watching "how to" videos on YouTube, and critiquing them. HAHA!
Great video; it is hard for me to find a plasma welder where I live; therefore, slowly, with a dremel cutter, I was able to cut the top of my keg. Now, to watch the other parts to see what I might have done better.
@blackcollarfiend That "hole" is either one of the keg handles, or one of the relief/drain points at the base of the top skirt. Both are stamped by the factory, and there is no accident or defect in this keg.
Don't forget, these kegs are actually property of the brewery and any deposit you put down is much less than the actual cost of a keg. So don't make a shop vulnerable to fines if you have them cutting kegs that were not properly put out of commission, if caught the breweries do try to prosecute and collect a replacement charge. Though commonly done, just not legal.
Plasma cutters do rock! I used one all summer long working in construction. I like how nice you created the opening. Was it freehand? We had a guide that fitted around the ceramic tip of the tool, it had 2 wheels on it that were adjustable for scribing it would work great but doesn't look like you would need it.
i would recommend taking it to a local metal shop. it should take a metal worker less then 5 minutes to get setup and cut it. which should cost you 5-10 bucks given its a good shop who wont charge u a full hour :)
if you cut from the outside just under the weld and stop about half an inch to an inch before the handle holds.. then cut down the handle rim to meet these cuts and across the inside and do some cleaning up you have a big ol' pot that you can pour out of without getting crap everywhere.. also you have no silly ridge on the inside

most people dont have a plasma just laying around!!!!!!
serger2010 10 months ago 4
@serger2010 But most could give a welding/fab shop a six pack (or maybe a case) of beer to have this done quickly and professionally.

Bravo. That is a beautiful cut. My hands shake a bit. Sucks for PAC but helps me with GTAW X3
cheeseboat15 4 years ago
shoulda filled it with water first now the slag ruined the inside good for a liqour tank no good for a mash tun
1976wayne 4 years ago
No slag stuck to the inside of the keg during cutting. It cleaned up very nicely.
av8or233 4 years ago
wow, plasma cutter.
vmelkon 4 years ago
I'm in New Mexico. The keg is legal...probably 10 years since it was last filled judging by the stench that occupied it.
av8or233 4 years ago
the keg is 'legal' because it's not been used in 10 yrs & it smells? Interesting definition of legal!
o0micmac0o 4 years ago
@o0micmac0o And you passed the bar when??? No I do not mean tavern, the law exam that you got your internet law license based on.
bjcpc0337 1 year ago
Nice job Yuri!
BTW, that keg is obviously property of Latrobe Brewing. I'm reporting you unless you make me one! ;-)
