In my opinion, Harry and Hermione don't fit as couple just BECAUSE they are understanding each other always and are always there for each other and that makes them perfect best friends. But Hermione and Ron are complementing one another what makes their relationship so exciting. Since the first book. :) Well, and I think Hermione needs that challenge which she has with Ron and wouldn't have with Harry.^^

On the whole, I would agree with you - I didn't read any Harry/Hermione in the books, and when I came across the idea I was like '?!' but it is possible wasn't presented with the idea to in theory like it more than the canon pairing.

I think the main reason why people like Harry/Hermione is because Dan and Emma have excellent chemistry together and whenever you see them together you think there is something more then just friendship. Where as with Ron and Hermione look like their fighting Rupert and Emma don't have that much chemistry. And Rupert isn't looking forward into kissing Emma, so I don't know how the kiss will turn out for the last film. It probably won't look as passionate and everything that it's supposed to be.
