try placing the pick on your first knuckle of your picking hand. As if its laying from the first knuckle to the tip of your figure and then angle it about 90 degrees toward your wrist and place your thumb perpendicular across your index finger and use your index and thumb as a rudder. look at my caprice video :)
@AdamFrostofficial i think it's okay with his picking technique as long as he grabs the pick fiercy and firmly, Rusty, Friedman and much others have a different picking technique, but what they have in common is the way to grab the pick, FIRMLY.
He needs to find the balance between firm, and very relaxed hand and using his thumb and index finger in a fulcrum motion. If you study how Jason Becker picks in the 5th caprice, it gives very great examples. By resting the pick on the first knuckle of the index finger and laying the thumb across it, you begin to pick alot more precisely, the thumb and index begin to work kind of like a rudder of a airplane.
@AdamFrostofficial ohh i see, i think i would give a chance to that technique, but for now, i've got my technique and i am perfect with it, but learning more techniques doesn't hurt anybody :D
HI! I am looking for a Ibanez S5470 guitar. I like natural color of wood as your guitar´s, but the only available color I can find is transparent black sunburst, which it's actually too bright.
i have the 6505+ and the avatar 2x12 contemporary and its too loud when i have the right amount of distortion on it. how can i quite it down, and still get a good metal sound?
@falla5 You can get a power attenuator. Look into the THD Hot Plate as well as the Marshall Power Block. Good for getting good tone saturation at lower volumes with tube amps.
TONE WIN. I just bought this exact guitar, LOVE THE FINISH, but the pickups are mediocre. I was actually wondering what you think of the HS-3 you have in the mid spot? THe main concern I have with the mid pickup that comes stock with the S5470 is that REALLY STRONG magnetic pulls that literally grabs the strings when I divebomb--and of course the horrid buzz. Any thoughts?
i just have to wonder, does reversing the tonezone do a whole lot to change the tone? Because your just reversing the positioning not the wiring right
I (tried to) play a Prestige, not an S but still j craft prestige,at a music shop, and the neck was so rediculously flat and wide I couldnt play it,is this one super wide and flat?I like super flat fingerboards, not necks though.
lol. dude, i just noticed that you have a very different picking style than ive ever seen. you hand position is different. thats not to say that its bad because everyone their own style. its just something i noticed. plus i loved the demo. great playing. finally someone who plays heavier shit for demos
I noticed you have the Stained Oil finish. Does that make the tone not as good as the other finishes? The red finish is $500 more, and I don't think JUST a finish would cost $500, so I figured it'd have better tone or something. Do you know anything about it?
@Laughrey21 you are correct sir, but i dont think its as much the pores as it is the fact that paint/gloss covers up the natural sound of wood and dampens/mushes the sound a bit, but you have to have picky ears to hear it
The S5470F, red viking, has a flamed maple top which adds different tonal character. I believe that is the "red" one you where inquiring about for $500 more?
Heman's is a first "run" Ibanez S470. The 5470 is about they closest thing you can buy now to that. I have to admit, I may not like Herman, but that S that he plays is hella fine.
how is the v30 and g12k100 combo? I was just thinking of doing the same thing. I have a 4x12 with two celestion v-30's and g12-65's from 1980 ha ha. That sounds great but I want the perfect combo for my 2x12's. I have the celestion g12 centurys now but not digging the gain tone.
i think it'd be better if you put the Tonezone in the bridge..like a Paul Girlbert kinda setup.. then a steve special on the neck..but either way, nice guitar, great pickups, nice colors.
i love Ibanez guitars, but the fretboards are just too wide..I have small hands..but I love the S series body design..if only the wizard necks weren't that wide..
damm i was thinking on getting one just because i thought it would help me because i have small hands ... what guitar do you recommend for me then..???
romeo uses a tonezone in the neck? hmm. good to know, i might get that one day since im pretty fond of his tone for solos. right now though, im looking for the steve's special to get in my S prestige. what do you think of it compared to the stock pickup? will it help me get a bit chunk? any noise issues? thanks. and jesus christ, it just might be an illusion from the way you pick, but your hands are fucking huge!!
pretty nice guitar man my friend has a ibanez prestige s2170 its sick 2... im playin a gibson sg standard through my 6505 but im thinking about trading it for one like yours... but yeah great tone and awsome guitar man!!!
I have been playing for 7-8 years with no tendinitis at all. Everyone has their own method to picking, and if it's comfortable, even after hours of playing in one sitting, there is no problem.
I do not appreciate the derogatory way you commented, as it's immature and pointless really.
Not to sound like a dick but u hold ur picking hand fuckin retarded, gonna give youself tendonitis bad if you practice long enough periods of time holding your shit like that...
what kind of stock pickups do that have? do they have the Hot grinder 1 & 2, short tracer picku[ps as stock?
Do the advertisment according to that guitar true? Is it versatile? Can you play all kinds of genre on that guitar? Can you play heavy to clean? metal to blues or jazz, etc.?
You mean you can play all kinds of genre in that guitar with a good sound? even w/o changing the pickups for a specific genre? what pickups is perfect for that guitar and what combination?
there is no such thing as a perfect pickup. you can make almost any pickup do almost anything you want, but alot of ppl prefer slightly hotter pickups. I have a Bill Lawrence L-500XL in my RG and it's pretty much the highest output passive out there. Needs alot of gain or an OD to compress the tone though. Lower output pickups would be compressed already. If you have to ask all these questions stick with stock pups bc you wont know what to buy
why did you change the pickups? doesnt it sound good? according to ibanez it is versatile meaning you can play it on different kinds of music or genre?
i could tell from the sound it had to be a 6505... i have a ibanez tbx150h and the shop had 1 too so i tried the s5470 thru that and fell in love..... :) i love eofys....... picking it up this thurs :)
Cool, got a question for you...how is the access to the upper frets? I am interested in this guitar but I prefer neck-through guitars... I can't find one of these in a local guitar shop to try out. Thanks.
You pick kinda like Wille from LOG.....

actually oil finishes usually have a more natural and open sound (i believe it to be a better sound)
its like cause its an oil finish the guitar can breath and sing a bit more, sense the pores of the wood arn't sealed in from the paint.
i dont know about the price difference though
