@ chainmailledkid plz no science incompetent trollz commenting plz. If you were the only person left on earth, there would probably be no such thing as "intelligent species" now would there?
if you do "anything" to a certain compound of course it would have totally different properties. Thats like me saying water is permeable when its a liquid and you saying "BUT IT SHATTERS WHEN YOU FREEZE IT" well no shit, im talking about a liquid state not a solid state. The the current state of being a liquid or even a rigid polymer, it would be impossible to "shatter" it.
btw, if you dipped nething in nitrogen, it would shatter on impact even if it was deemed impossible to shatter in its natural form. happy with my explanation? plz dont troll facts you cant even support and cry when people attack it and you can even support your own claim, THNX PLOX
ok, wheres your support that 1, "theres no such things as intelligent molecules" and wheres your scientific support that d30 will "shatter" in its natural state or gelled without other chemical modifications
The effect happens now when the molecules are 'intelligent' but when Solid particles have enough fluid to fill the gaps between them. At low velocities the fluid acts as a lubricant, but at higher velocities the fluid is forced out from between the particles, Causing the particles to bind.
o and one more thing about your earlier statement of "o, just hit it with a sledge hammer and it will shatter" and "theres no such thing as intelligent molecules" First off, you haven't proven that exact claim, then you try to shit out wiki,3rd, if it didnt "stop bullets" British military wouldnt have invested in it, 4th, hitting a molded compound is different from hitting a compound from its natural state, hitting is not 'dropping" 5th, your still a god damn troll so stop shitting plz
first of all, that doesn't prove anything about your point, and second, crtl-copying crap from wiki doesnt work as "significant understanding" as you are probably trying to bullshit me with "how smart i am cuz i can control-paste shit". srly, when you know shit science, at least try to bs me from a scientific scholarly article not wiki plox thnx. and btw, "intellegent molecules" can be proven by quantum physics/mechanics which you will probably never learn to understand.
I directed you toward Wiki, so that when I said "dilatant" you could understand what I was talking about, and so that I wasn't just spewing words that nobody knew the meaning to.
And I did not copy or paste ANYthing from wiki, or anywhere else.
As for 'Intelligent Molecule' Such a thing does not exsist. It is a phrase coined by D3o for the purpose or marketing.
Google "Intelligent molecule" and you get under a thousand hits.
I never said hitting the molded compout would result in it fracturing, I refer ONLY to the goo as seen in the video.
In fact, I highly doubt the final product would shatter at all, I honesly have no idea what they add to it.
As for stopping bullets...
I think D3o got the grant because from the military because they wanted bullet proofing, and other military applications explored by palmer, not because thats what D3o currently is cabable of.
how does a term like "intelligent molecule" be coined by a company thats only several years old and have "thousands of hits" second, Scientists are currently working on a project using molecules at a quantum level that with using a computer to input commands, can rearrange molecules creating shapes and solids, sort of like a 3D printer but can be rearranged instantaneously with a super computer hence called "intelligent molecules" although it is,and CAN be manipulated by a computer
Oh, My bad, you didn't say quantum molecule, you said 'rearrange molecules at a quantum level'...
But still...
I can't help but feel that 'quantum' doesn't belong there. Quantum being the smallest possible unit, realize... We know the molecular level pretty well, Sub-molecular... Kinda, Quantum level... Nuh-uh.
There are hardly even theories about it.
String theory would mean the manipulation at the quantum level would mean manipulating strings.
What the millitary wants fron D3o is weight savings. Replacing the existing padding in the under layers of body armour with equilalent shock absorbtion for a third of the weight.
Being thinner, flexable, fireproof and stable from -40DegC to 120DegC are just a bonus.
Other more minor Military applications considered so far are lighter kneepads. Lightweight flexable protection in elbows and knees of fatigues to reduce minor injuries.
Weight is a great problem for the modern combat soldier.
no newtonian polimer?

I won a competition to do with d30 and i won a wii.

Do a proper test, hit it with a real hammer or a sledge hammer !
mattmorr 2 years ago
Wouldn't make no diff..that stuff stops bullets..it's got intelligent molecules that join together on impact to absorb energy.
seventiesclassic 2 years ago
Lol...
bullets?
No...
No such thing as 'intelligent molecules'
If you were to hit it with a sledge hammer, it would probably shatter.
chainmaillekid 2 years ago
I'd sooner hit you with a sledge hammer you fucking know all twat..you watched the video, can't you believe the evidence of your own eyes?
seventiesclassic 2 years ago
:U
In another video, The inventor mentions the goo will actually harden enough to shatter.
Silly putty will do the same thing, that pretty much what that stuff is before they stick it in molds.

Im neither a troll, nor science incompetent.
So far, nobody has made any real arguments as to why Im wrong, Including you.
Even if I was a science incompetent troll, it wouldn't mean I was wrong.

I said I wasn't a troll, But im gunna have to take that back.
Imma Gunna enjoy this. >:}
Im not talking about dropping something the d30 in liquid nitrogen to make it shatter, Im talking about hitting it w/ a hammer.
D3o Is a dilatant compound ( search dilatant on wiki )
There are TWO types of dilatant type 'armor' that come to mind, D3o, and Dow Corning's own APS.
The Raw material for nearly ALL, ALL dilatant compounds is...
dilatant compound 3179, by Dow Corning.
chainmaillekid 2 years ago
dilatant compound 3179 Is also more commonly known as...
Silly putty.
The orange goo you see in the vid...
Its just silly putty, Silocone oil + Boric acid.
Now, Search "silly putty shatter" right up there at the top of the page.
You will be able to find more than a few videos of people shattering silly putty.
chainmaillekid 2 years ago
Now, WHY will a dilatant harden?
The effect happens now when the molecules are 'intelligent' but when Solid particles have enough fluid to fill the gaps between them. At low velocities the fluid acts as a lubricant, but at higher velocities the fluid is forced out from between the particles, Causing the particles to bind.
chainmaillekid 2 years ago
Because there only no real chemical bonds holding the 'putty' together, Only weak physical bonds...
Well, Its actually NOT that strong.
You can tear silly putty, Not super easy, but certainly much easier than a rubber ball.
How one could expect a compound like that to provide protection from bullets...
Well, thats a bit silly once you know about the properties of the material.

Its not 'Thousands of hits' its 'under a thousand hits'
My name, Chainmaillekid has about 20,000 hits.
An obscure scientific term, that won't even show up on spell check like... somatosensory has nearly a million hits.
'Intelligent molecules' is a term used almost exclusively by D3o.
And I don't see what controlling molecules by computer has to do with either D3o or intelligent molecules.

C'mon, give me an example of a quantum molecule.
