i priced a new one from a couple sites. might beat the bushes and find a cheaper one. still no comparison in what you can do for the money. the welds are as good as the person using the machine too.
Awesome - I played around with my new TIG last night for the first time and found feeding the rod a bit of a pain (total noob with welding so my tungsten tip didn't last long before it met the filler rod). Thanks for the info!
Dont buy tig welder, buy a Multiplaz 3500 for less than 1/2 price and its does way more, but the way it does it is the unbelievable part. check into it.
I welded without long sleves last week with tig, 130 amps on carbon, on a whole day i guess i welded like 3-4 feet (just a fillet weld) and my arm i used for pumping the wire was pretty well burned so dont forget to put on long sleves guys :)
the first way you showed should be the only way you EVER feed wire, 90% of welding is how you feed wire... using your fingers the way you did makes it very unstable...
@RastaLee311 If you consider yourself a professional, and the company doesn't have your size gloves, you would BUY YOUR OWN. Assuming you are worth your salt, you are making $30 an hour and up.. Buy a $20 pair of gloves. I buy my own because I prefer the proper fit. If they have my size, I use theirs. If not, I ALWAYS have two new pair in my gang box.. Don't blame the "clumsy" gloves for your poor workmanship.
my metal workshop teacher was diagnose with cancer, but he is now done with his therapy and treatment stuff... ~~ atm I am doing steel rod and its scary cuz it pops :( help plz!
Great demo. Novices would do well to take the time to view this video and practice feed techniques for this or Oxy/Fuel welding. Most people want to jump right in there and get the arc going but if you start of with the basics and try some gas welding first you will really reap the benefits later in your career. Knowing the geometry of the required torch angle and being dexterous with both hands is a must if you want to become a skilled welder (and not some MIG monkey :])
some times you have to wear gloves, ya right.... how about all the time!!!!!!!! i work union if i got caught not wearing gloves i will be down the road.
a while back... like 4 years or so i ran out of filler wire while working on a site, putting in st/st balustrading so all i could find was st/st cable 4mm 7*7 which i unraveled into single strands of about 1 mm thick and even thru they were not straight i found they welded just fine! to this day i just use all the cable off cuts to weld with . if you have big holes to weld up you dont even have to unravel the cable
nice video! this really helped me in finishing the butt joints at the ends of pipe bombs im working on. quick queston, is it dangerous to weld the pipe while i have the explosives and ball bearings already packed in? i wouldnt want it to blow me up in my workshop!
Thanks for the tips bro! I just recently started a job as a welders helper and im trying to learn as much as possible as fast as possible. Your website is by far the best one i've come across! I cant stop reading all the information on there! The info is great!
Thanks Welding Tips . I hang my hat on sheet metal fabrication . Most of what I weld is thin( .063 or less ) I get a cheap pair of cotton glove and cut the index , thumb and birdie finger out.
well when i weld stainless...i got it set up at 120...and the steel filler like sticks to thge pool and i have a hard time feeding it in easy...any ideas?
@manofmagic64 what kind of weld are you doing? I typically make corner beads on mild steel about 3/16" wide. I find 75-80 amps plenty for that. Perhaps you're too hot and it's causing you to feed faster than you would otherwise need to.
they do make dressing tools for grinding wheels,,,but unless you are about to make some x ray inspected welds or something, it wont hurt to just leave the wheels alone...
Thanks. I tried that thing with the rock and I'm pretty sure it gave me cancer with all the white dust all over the place. I didn't get your response in my inbox because you didn't hit reply, I just happened to come back here. Thanks again.
do you know any tricks to get the grinding wheel clean enough for sharpening tungsten if you have already used it for steel? I don't want to go to the store or buy another one. I was thinking of grinding a rock from the yard and wearing the outer edge down a bit. do you think that would work?
when you feed the rod forward using both these methods, are you actually dipping into the pool, or are these methods just to gain more wire infront of youre hand so it doesnt get too close to the heat/torch? Thanks.
Tell me about it, i've been in fab shops for about five years now, N. Texas has some pretty low pay for welders, $11.00-$13.00 hr on avg. need to get into TIG, and relocate.
man those gloves seem nice i was using regular stick welding gauntlet gloves lol and i love tht wire feed method tht seems so much easier thank you so much

It's simple. If you claim to be a production TIG welder and can't feed wire properly, you're not a production TIG welder. I've seen many really good TIG welders not know how to do this. It's sad. The way I learned it perfectly, other than a shitload of practice, is that my old welding teacher sent me home with a stick of weld wire. He told me to practice while I was watching TV or some shit. It works. Im 28 and can weld and feed wire better than ANY veteran 50+ welder that I've ever worked with.
Cancer is no joke!!! Keep those hands covered.

Bloody unbelievable!! Cancer and all that crap !!
I got melanoma cancer directly from tig welding SS, using only a fine light synthetic glove (I was a fool for not investigating the warning signs)
Cancer was the most devastating thing for my self and family . I lived passed the 3 years they gave me but lost a new business I had started .
Others I heard of (tig welding for a living )were not so lucky . DO NOT TAKE THIS health threat light. Steve Marshall Marshall Design

@ssouthur you can make a new tip on your filler rod by resharpening it on a grinding wheel.

I have a simlar method to the two that you showed.
You use only your thumb to push the wire forward, and lay it between your first two fingers...almost a combination.
Thats whats always worked for me...but I'm gonna have to give those a shot.
