OMG!! It was soooo cool and nice. You guys rock! And your daughter she is sooo actress! I love your video very much! All the best to you! With love from Los Angeles!
Brilliant! I was completely conned by your Huliganov act, the turned down mouth and the dour disposition but the examples in lesson 19 helped me a lot. Does your daughter know Russian or is she reading transliteration? I translated a piece on Yunona i Avos for homework and I have to say this is the most enjoyable rendition of that song I have found on the net. Thanks :)
this was absolutely WONDERFUL!...I thoroughly enjoyed this...and I assume that precious little girl was your daughter...she is VERY talented and obviously takes after her father...kudos to you both! (Texas Terror)
Love all the videos where sophie sings...more posts with sophie please. I'd also like to get some of the russian songs you have sang, especially the ones sophie sings.
The version we were singing to it was by Marshall (odd name for a Russian performer, but there you go) but all sorts of performers have done this. If you want the mp3 without us on it, you'll have to contact me privately.
Aleksandr Marshal (not Marshall) is the stage name of Aleksandr Min'kov. Nothing odd about it, "marshal" is a word in Russian as well as English, and it's a nickname he got in military academy (allegedly).
I know that, but since it's a transliteration of the English word "marshall" why change it when transliterating back again? I meant that it might seem odd to English speakers that a Russian shares a common Anglo-Saxon family name. Thanks for your explanation of where he got the nickname, that I didn't know.
Sorry, I have to nitpick. The English word for this military rank is also "marshal", not "marshall". The modern Russian "marshal" is a shortened form of pre-revolutionary "general-fel'dmarshal", which came from the German rank "generalfeldmarschall", not from English.
In any event the word comes from French, and the word does have a US variant spelling Marshall. When it is found as a name, even in the UK, it is much more commonly used with two letters even though the noun in British spelling has one, and so it is quite natural to transliterate it Alexander Marshall instead of the literal 'Aleksandr Marshal'. Other than that, you marshalled your arguments quite well.
I should think you could get it from some of the on-line stores. I only have a plastinka of the whole thing, but I can't play plastinki. This is the most famous song from it. If I could find the cassette I recorded my plastinka onto many years ago I could use audacity and turn it into an mp3...
Thisn is a beautiful song! The Russian sounds gorgeous. Could you term the Russian language "feminine"? The ying-yang seems just right. I will check for the song online
I would say that the Russian language is highly sexual because for men it is masculine and for women feminine, not like Dutch where both sexes sound pretty masculine or some Asian languages which shall remain nameless so I don't have half the world at my throat where both sexes sound like women. In Slavic languages the past tense of the verb and adjectives referring to a person are different if the subject is a female person.
Thanks for the information. That is what I thought because the "yin-Yang" seems to be in the right mix. It is in balance. There is a good video on youtube of a guitarist playing the song
Cute girl :p
