I adore this! I am taken to another world when i play this! Just love watching the light aircraft and seeing Steve McQueen again! So young when he sadly died of cancer I think! I've loved this scene and the song since the first time I ever saw it and never could forget the way it made me feel. It's a great movie and Steve McQueen just unforgetalbe. Your dad must be a great boy if likes especially this part of the movie!
I just love this!! Thank you so much for the post. Steve McQueen was my all time favorite actor. My favorite movie "The Great Escape". and the motorcycle scene he insisted on doing himself. It was great!
"Bud Ekins, who has died aged 77, was a renowned off-road racer and stuntman who performed the famous motorcycle jump over barbed wire in the film The Great Escape, and bounced a Mustang up and down the hills of San Francisco in Bullitt. "
Yes, Dusty Springfield had the most popular recording and it was very good; but I will take Noel Harrison's version on the screen any day in the week. Methinks that Michel LeGrand knew what he and the producers were doing by going to Harrison. You see, Harrison has stood the test of time.
Well, I tried with the HQ button, and I downloaded both versions, with and without HQ, (in mp4 and .flv). While playing them back, there's an obvious increased quality in the moving picture, UNFORTUNATELY, the SOUND is terribly LOW.
Thanks a lot. (I didn't notice there was one. And thanks for the clip, in the first place.
The movie is one of my super-super favorite ever... as far for the music... works addictively and seductively !
When I first saw the movie, back in the 80s, - I was only an early teenager - I searched like crazy to find the music score and exercised for hours and hours to manage to play it, though my piano playing skills were only elementary back then.
Loved both movies, both depicted the era they were made in brilliantly. Prefered the more realistic ending of the original but the chemistry worked much better in the remake - Brosnan and Russo were magic together.
Roll on The Topkapi Affair then we'll have another one to discuss!
This is a great movie and incorporates the multi image effect that made its debute at the Czech pavillion at Expo 67. It is often said that this movie was McQeen's favorite and he asked that it be played in his hospital room just before he passed away from cancer. To McQeen, the movie depicted him at the peak of his cinematic powers: cool and elegant, setting an image that many attempted to copy, without success.
To 6300lennoxstreet : I felt really touch, while Steve Mcqueen in dying, Who still reviewing his favorite and glory moment of his career. This was the first my favorite song and video clip of my mind !!
Thank you for your kind reply. There are many magical moments created by movie soundtracks and songs. The Windmills of My Mind is one of those pieces that is timeless and will have a profound effect on and move people a hundred years from now.
To mcqueen5 : This version was sang by Noel Harrison in 1968, which received the acadmy award of best picture music in the same year. The version of Michael Legrand for the new Thomas crown affair in 2003.
background, it effected to received the acadmy award of best original sound track on 1968 - The wiindmind of your mind. Thank You to posting it and brought back the my memory to best
I love this scene, too. It so typifies McQueen as he was. A loner up in the sky who we never understood. Some arrogance, a lot of cockiness. In his later days, McQueen was a big time collector of old airplanes and obtained his pilot's license. A departure from motorcycle riding. Any comments or replies saying I'm right or just full of it are appreciated. Thanks
Great movie, always loved this scene as well.I never saw the remake..I typically hate remakes..and most likely would this one as well. There is/was only one Steve McQueen.

He had a plan and stuck to it and in the end, ran away and became a millionar because he never let his heart get in the way. There are better versions of this song (Dusty Springfield's is superb), but for me, Noel Harrison's is definitive.
