this is my fav scene out of all 8 harry potter films
btw itz not the elder wand itz all voldemort the elder wand's allegiances were 2 harry so that was all voldemort if he used his own phoenix feather wand nothing would have happend 2 him nor would he feel pain in his arm but he would do the same amount of damage he just done in this scene long live lord voldemort !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
It's kinda funny, Voldemort's like a huge artillery piece. He should've just had the death eaters surround the place and then just launched giant spells at Hogwarts until it was a smoking crater! I mean honestly, he lost for the most BS reasons - I mean, why go fight the Chosen One directly when he could just drop spells on him from a distance? *sigh*
This moment is SO SICK. Voldemort's power is ridiculous. This is definitely one of the top moments in all of the movies. He's so powerful it's like breaking the wand because of the resistance.
i wish j.k rowling would write a real book to portray dumbledores life like the life and lies of albus dumbledore!! dumbledore is bad ass he deserves his own movie!! ;)
Can i have a few opinions? Im thinking Voldemort may have (non-verbally) cast Finite Incantatem. Normally, that shield would have been too powerful to be destroyed, but maybe it worked because of the Elder Wand and Voldemort being an exceptionally powerful wizard
@TimeLord75 It's purely Voldemort's power, as we see he over exerts himself and the wand begins to crack- because we know that Voldemort is not the true owner- neither is Snape for that matter which is why Voldemort was mistaken in killing him. The owner of the wand is Harry, which is why Voldemort loses essentially and he is limited in his power with that wand. But he is still powerful enough on his own to destroy the sheild cos he's awesome :)
@Mr101Thomas Take another film: Perfume. Based on a book I never even read. But the film makes perfect sense. It's an absolute masterpiece, in my opinion. A friend of mine has read the book and says the translation is outstanding. I never asked if it was faithful, because I don't really care. All I care is if the whole thing makes sense. Perfume does. The Potter films don't. A lot of people just don't understand them.. And they never read the books. ;)
@Mr101Thomas Look, I respect your opinion but I think you misunderstood me. I don't compare a film to the book all the time. I know some things can't be translated into movie. Take the Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's sword is reforged in book 1. In the film it happens in the third one! It's a BIG change, but it makes sense. I have friends who've never read a Potter book and really don't understand the films.. They just don't make sense.
If 4 hours and 10 minutes (roughly both parts combined) isn't long enough, perhaps that's a pretty good indicator that book fans were never going to be satisfied with it. I mean, it's just a bit shorter than twice the length of the other movies and we got really lucky there. Deathly Hallows in its entirety is as long as the Return of the King EXTENDED edition. So if over 4 HOURS isn't enough, what is? 5 hours? 6 hours? I guarantee that even if it were 7 hours long people would still complain.
2:10 mins just did not do it for many people, AMAZING movie IFF i had not read the books. so manny more scenes could have been added and gone with the story :(.
i swear if i ever meet the editor of this film! he could have added so much more important scenes, like the one where tonks runs to lupin and they talk about their baby, and its not fair how hagrid was only tied up and beaten up randomly. It would have been soo emotional if when harry ron and hermione wer running to the boat house and the spiders got in their way hagrid should have defended them like in the book and the spiders taken him away and leaving harry to think that hagrid was dead :(.
Lord Voldemort is SO passionate and angry against everyone, the way he used his power is just so perfectly expressive!I mean look at him,he actually gives you the felling he has a good reason to be so mad during breaking the shield and it takes some time to realise that he is just an evil and megalomaniac psyhopath!!Ralph Fiennes was absoloutly best choice of actor to bring Tom Riddle from book to life!
@santoouin But he does have a good reason to do what he is doing, the wizarding world abandoned his mum, him & so did the muggle world. Tom Riddle fell through the cracks in the system and it was too late when Dumbledore came at 11! Dumbledore could have said he was going to go with Tom Riddle to get his school shopping & put him on the train anyway after him saying no to his offer but he never did because he was afraid of him. Scary! Dumbledore, Harry and Tom are distance cousins as well!
@VenomShock Pippin was a well known blundering blockhead, in the book to begin with, and in the film also. They kept the spirit. He was the only character (among the good ones) who could manage to piss off gandalf seriously. And as for the barbecue.. They're hobbits! Not scientists let alone warriors! All they do is eat smoke and laugh! they weren't used to those dangers. Later none of them would behave like that. In both book and film. Agree?
@SOF006 The Elder Wand can only do so much for you, especially considering Voldemort wasn't even the true master of the wand at the time. He's pretty much just that good, the only thing he ever had to fear was Dumbledore
@codboxbox360 Wrong and wrong again. The Elder Wand was forged by Death himself, it was made to be the most powerful wand in the world. The thing he had to fear was Harry Potter because Harry knew exactly how to kill him and Voldemort knew that. Dumbledore was just a wall standing in his way.
@SOF006 I'm not trying to insult you here but you should read the books, at some point it says the only other wizard he ever feared was Dumbledore. Voldemort might have knew Harry was after the Horcruxes but I wouldn't really say he was ever afraid of him. He probably should have been if he knew Harry was one, but he didn't. Also I know what the Elder wand is, my point about the Elder Wand not giving its' allegiance still stands.
Bottom line: I can accept this as just a film. I can accept it's an adaption and I can accept some things had to be changed. Even the Lord of the Rings isn't a perfect adaption.. Some things could not be traslated into film, it's a fact. But they did a wonderful job. They respected the spirit, the rules and it all made sense. The HP series is full of plot holes and broken rules, important things changed for no reason, characters missed out and so on. That I can't accept. It deserved better. Mer
The HP movies were definitely not made to be faithful adaptations. They were only made to make money.
On the bright side, while DH1&2 aren't anywhere near as good as the first two films, I think they've done a better job with them than the piles of crap that are films 3-6. =/
@FaeriichanII They were made to be interperetations of a source material, very much like a comic book movie. Except Potter turned out to be closer to the material than any other series out there, even more-so than Lord of the Rings. (That's actually one of the flaws of the first 2).
I think you're probably a purist, which is sad... These people put a lot of effort into these wonderful movies. Especially 3, which stands as the best.
@VenomShock I don't know that I'm a "purist." I was annoyed after watching 3 and 6 in particular - maybe it was because those two were my favorite books and thus my expectations were higher? Idk, but either way, several unnecessary changes were made in these movies, some of which make the series more confusing than it needs to be, less comprehensive as a whole. I'd list some but, as a fellow HP fan, I'm sure you're all-too-aware of what I'm talking about. x3
@FaeriichanII The point of a film "adaptation" is not to just put the book on the screen. What's the point of that? That defeats the purpose of the book (which in this case has inspired a generation to read) since most will flock to the movie. Then also, there's no art it in. Small changes are made, yes. But these aren't meant to be the books with minor alterations. These are artists using source material to make their own interperetation of the world.
@FaeriichanII The first two are widely recognized as the worst due to the fact that the director was damn lazy and just threw the books on the screen, word for word (with slight changes). Since then the movies have gotten more independant and more qualified directors have put their expertise into making their own films.
That's why I assume you're a purist. You hate most of the movies due to "unecessary changes" (they didn't have to be as close as they were) and prefer the most poorly made 2.
@VenomShock (con't) Like I stated before, these movies were only for money. Yes, there's awesome effects, especially in this very video (Elder Wand cracking aside, I adored the Protego Maxima scenes). Yes, there's some awesome actors and actresses. Yes, the people who made the costumes and the sets did a fantastic job, but money was the only goal that mattered to the producers, and that fact leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All the wasted potential frustrates me.
@FaeriichanII These movies weren't made just for money. The evidence especially shows in their craft and the how passionate everyone involved was. Money making was the studio's intent, as with everything. But the people who put this series together: The producers, directors, actors, everyone were ALL passionate about Rowling's work. Their entire intent was to make good movies. Which is widely accepted that they did. I didn't see unecessary changes. Everything helped the interperetation.
@VenomShock I couldn't agree with you more. That bloke is such a purist. Film 3 one of the worse? It was definitely one of the best, well directed films in the series, if not the best. The reason he (or she) adores the first two that much is because he's/she's very keen on non-creative, lazy adaptations. And people also have this annoying tendency of claiming things as been done only for the sake of money. Money is a part of it (which is natural), but people do make things for the sake of art.
@vaporage I do know about film adaption, thank you. But one doesn't need to know about it to spew what you call "ignorant shit".. It's enough to have read the books and see what they done with the 'adaption'. And maybe compare it with some serious film adaption, like the Lord of the Rings.. and even an ignorant will notice the difference of quality. The other adaption doesn't make main characters look like fools in crucial moments.. And it earned 17 oscars. ;)
@francisraud You mean like in the first movie where Pippin sells out Frodo while they're drinking at the bar? Or when the hobbits (besides Frodo) all cook and roast a fire on the mountain while they're being chased/hiding from Black Riders?
And I forgot.. In the book, the wand NEVER cracked. (Nor WAS cracked by anyone..) There was no duel at all (no such rubbish as killing curses getting blocked and so on), but a great verbal confrontation in front of all those who had survived, then one spell each and it was over. Voldemort's death was much more subtle and made justice to Snape exposing him as a true hero who managed to trick the dark lord. But that was the book.. The real deal.
@francisraud oh come on if da book sway to the finale was in da film everyone would fall asleep... yes da books finale was epic for a book but da films way waz epic for a film... and he did notice the wand cracked and he realised the wand wasnt his...!!!! it really annoys da fuck out of me when book readers compare every little scene in da film to the book there two diffrent things.. yes many changes could have been made to the films !! if u love the books so much than just stick to the books!!
@francisraud In the book. In the movie, it was going to be boring. It was necessary something more than a two minutes of Harry making fun of Voldemort, and a five seconds duel. And Voldemort's death in the movie it's much more subtle, it doesn't had students and teachers celebrating and forgetting that they lost loved ones.
@AntediluvianNinja he didn't notice at all that the wand had cracked, otherwise he wouldn't have used it. No decent wizard would. Cracked or broken it's the same: it may still work but it's not safe to use. It apparently worked fine only because it was the most powerful wand. The only wand able to repair a broken wand (Harry's..). It was a cheap movie excuse to justify his death, nothing more. But it made him look incompetent. And he wasn't.
Film-makers made Voldemort look like a baboon brandishing a stick.. 2 films blithering around to find the elder wand and complaining about how he needs the best working wand and he doesn't notice IT CRACKED! and still the film-makers made him use it!! We only saw 2 people do something so stupid as using a cracked wand: Ron, but he was 12.. and Gilderoy Lockhart, a compete imbecile. The film-makers put Voldemort on the same mental level of Lockhart. Wow. Rowling must be happy.
@francisraud It wasn't stupid at all. He knew why the wand cracked: he wasn't the wand's true master. The next thing he did was to find and kill who he thought was the wand's master, thus making the wand his. He couldn't have known that the wand had already chosen a new master, and the next time the wand cracked, it was too late for him to do anything about it. Also, Ron's wand wasn't cracked, it was broken. The Elder Wand still worked just fine.
@francisraud you are fuckin dumbass how are you to judge shit like this when it received critical acclaim from almost everybody all the shit you said would just ruin the movie you opinion doesnt mean shit you whiny ass bitch
@Dupponable I don't really know, it doesn't seem like any other spells. It's like raw power, but most likely it's and overpowered Confrigo (i have a feeling i spelled it wrong, but you get it).
@Dupponable Voldemort fix his nose?? Are you mad? He does not want to look like his fifthly muggle dad! how ever handsome he maybe!! Voldemort hates himself and the world for what he is!
@Annabella56 Has nothing to do with that actually. It has to do with splitting his soul into so many pieces, as well as the fact that he used Nagini's venom to help stabilize his condition before he fully came back. That is why his face looks so weird.
@zerah561 Try thinking outside the J.K Rowling book box.Voldemort cut of his nose to spite his face; as he is extraordinary so why should he look like everyone else and have a common name. There are rather a lot of Tom's ! lol
Voldemort did used other unnamed magic as well as his Horcruxes & Nagini's venom. According to Dumbledore he under went so many Magical transformations that he was unrecognizable. This is naturally the actions of someone who loves himself.
@Annabella56 Sorry...but the reasons I listed are what happened. It even said so in the book. There is no needing to think outside of the box, seeing as it was STATED that his features are the way they are due to Nagini's venom and the Horcruxes. There was no cutting off his own nose.
@chris67991 The producers of this movie went through some INTENESE editting for a lot of the scenes! This scene has some MEGA editting in it, and I think it's just fine. So, elaborate.
@chris67991 Who cares about the editing! I am an editing major and I was focused on the awesome cinematography. Not every scene needs to have complex editing.
But before it is over he will wish he could drink mercury to live forever because the most extraordinary design behind the reality right in front of you has a fail safe that can't be beat because your civilization had its curse and now we have ours....
Great scene, but again, terrible editing. They cut straight to McGonagall after it shows the spell being cast, it goes quiet. And the way Voldemort just appears and screams out of nowhere....hmmm, something must've taken place before he destroyed the shield.
@eddieyyy3 I agree. The performances by actors and the effects were awesome for the most part. But some scenes were edited horribly or just poorly devised. This movie should've been at least an hour longer easy.
@VandyHeel I was hoping this would be the longest one of them all considering everything that happened in the final chapters of the book. How is it that Return of the King, Titanic, King Kong, and Avatar were able to go 3 hours long, but the last HP movie is only allowed 2 and a half? Really really REALLY disappointed how the film was contructed in terms of editing and crushed into this aloted time.
@eddieyyy3 Return of the Kings was based on a big book, the film was based in just the last 200 pages of the same. Actually, both Deathly Hallows films we're 140 minutes long, but Part 1 ends with the trio arriving to Malfoy Manor. They inserted 20 minutes of Part 2 into Part 1, and that's because both films had to be severely edited. For example, the beginning of Part 2 with Harry at Dobby's grave, it was when they leave Shell Cottage, but they put that shot and digitally erased Evanna.
@ghentyboy I'm viewing the film from a more technical perspective, but if you were to view it as a whole it absolutely stunning. I'm quite of a film critic and therefore I pay attention to all the film's components. Don't get me wrong I loved the film, but some scenes were edited for time and could've delivered a much more thrilling experience had they kept them in the original length...look up the deleted scenes and see for yourself.
@eddieyyy3 "I'm quite of a film critic and therefore I pay attention to all the film's components." LOL, aren't critics supposed to have eloquent grammar? Shamed.
@eddieyyy3 okay ur mcgonagall comment was just stupid and if u watched the film hermoine destroys his horcrux and hes desperate to get into hogwarts!!
@Mr101Thomas No, if you do some research there is actually a deleted scene of Bellatrix screaming and laughing prior to Voldemort destroying the shield. Dude, don't call my comment stupid.
@eddieyyy3 yes i know there is they are trying to break the shield which he does!!!! da quiteness after he breaks the shield is just for dramatic effect!!!!!

That defeats the purpose of the book (which in this case has inspired a generation to read) since most will flock to the movie. Then also, there's no art it in. Small changes are made, yes. But these aren't meant to be the books with minor alterations. These are artists using source material to make their own interperetation of the world.
VenomShock 1 month ago
@FaeriichanII The first two are widely recognized as the worst due to the fact that the director was damn lazy and just threw the books on the screen, word for word (with slight changes). Since then the movies have gotten more independant and more qualified directors have put their expertise into making their own films.
That's why I assume you're a purist. You hate most of the movies due to "unecessary changes" (they didn't have to be as close as they were) and prefer the most poorly made 2.
VenomShock 1 month ago
@VenomShock (con't) Like I stated before, these movies were only for money. Yes, there's awesome effects, especially in this very video (Elder Wand cracking aside, I adored the Protego Maxima scenes). Yes, there's some awesome actors and actresses. Yes, the people who made the costumes and the sets did a fantastic job, but money was the only goal that mattered to the producers, and that fact leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All the wasted potential frustrates me.
FaeriichanII 1 month ago
@FaeriichanII These movies weren't made just for money. The evidence especially shows in their craft and the how passionate everyone involved was. Money making was the studio's intent, as with everything. But the people who put this series together: The producers, directors, actors, everyone were ALL passionate about Rowling's work. Their entire intent was to make good movies. Which is widely accepted that they did. I didn't see unecessary changes. Everything helped the interperetation.
VenomShock 1 month ago

And it earned 17 oscars. ;)
francisraud 2 months ago
@francisraud You mean like in the first movie where Pippin sells out Frodo while they're drinking at the bar? Or when the hobbits (besides Frodo) all cook and roast a fire on the mountain while they're being chased/hiding from Black Riders?
Or hell, all of Gimli?

And I forgot.. In the book, the wand NEVER cracked. (Nor WAS cracked by anyone..) There was no duel at all (no such rubbish as killing curses getting blocked and so on), but a great verbal confrontation in front of all those who had survived, then one spell each and it was over. Voldemort's death was much more subtle and made justice to Snape exposing him as a true hero who managed to trick the dark lord. But that was the book.. The real deal.

@francisraud Learn something about film adaption before you start spewing some ignorant shit.

Mr101Thomas 1 month ago
@francisraud In the book. In the movie, it was going to be boring. It was necessary something more than a two minutes of Harry making fun of Voldemort, and a five seconds duel. And Voldemort's death in the movie it's much more subtle, it doesn't had students and teachers celebrating and forgetting that they lost loved ones.
yonythemoony 3 weeks ago
@AntediluvianNinja he didn't notice at all that the wand had cracked, otherwise he wouldn't have used it. No decent wizard would. Cracked or broken it's the same: it may still work but it's not safe to use. It apparently worked fine only because it was the most powerful wand. The only wand able to repair a broken wand (Harry's..). It was a cheap movie excuse to justify his death, nothing more. But it made him look incompetent. And he wasn't.
francisraud 2 months ago
Film-makers made Voldemort look like a baboon brandishing a stick.. 2 films blithering around to find the elder wand and complaining about how he needs the best working wand and he doesn't notice IT CRACKED! and still the film-makers made him use it!! We only saw 2 people do something so stupid as using a cracked wand: Ron, but he was 12.. and Gilderoy Lockhart, a compete imbecile. The film-makers put Voldemort on the same mental level of Lockhart. Wow. Rowling must be happy.
francisraud 2 months ago
@francisraud It wasn't stupid at all. He knew why the wand cracked: he wasn't the wand's true master. The next thing he did was to find and kill who he thought was the wand's master, thus making the wand his. He couldn't have known that the wand had already chosen a new master, and the next time the wand cracked, it was too late for him to do anything about it. Also, Ron's wand wasn't cracked, it was broken. The Elder Wand still worked just fine.

@Dupponable I don't really know, it doesn't seem like any other spells. It's like raw power, but most likely it's and overpowered Confrigo (i have a feeling i spelled it wrong, but you get it).

Annabella56 3 weeks ago
@Annabella56 Has nothing to do with that actually. It has to do with splitting his soul into so many pieces, as well as the fact that he used Nagini's venom to help stabilize his condition before he fully came back. That is why his face looks so weird.
zerah561 2 weeks ago
@zerah561 Try thinking outside the J.K Rowling book box.Voldemort cut of his nose to spite his face; as he is extraordinary so why should he look like everyone else and have a common name. There are rather a lot of Tom's ! lol
Voldemort did used other unnamed magic as well as his Horcruxes & Nagini's venom. According to Dumbledore he under went so many Magical transformations that he was unrecognizable. This is naturally the actions of someone who loves himself.
Annabella56 2 weeks ago
@Annabella56 Sorry...but the reasons I listed are what happened. It even said so in the book. There is no needing to think outside of the box, seeing as it was STATED that his features are the way they are due to Nagini's venom and the Horcruxes. There was no cutting off his own nose.

@chris67991 The producers of this movie went through some INTENESE editting for a lot of the scenes! This scene has some MEGA editting in it, and I think it's just fine. So, elaborate.

Great scene, but again, terrible editing. They cut straight to McGonagall after it shows the spell being cast, it goes quiet. And the way Voldemort just appears and screams out of nowhere....hmmm, something must've taken place before he destroyed the shield.
eddieyyy3 3 months ago
@eddieyyy3 I agree. The performances by actors and the effects were awesome for the most part. But some scenes were edited horribly or just poorly devised. This movie should've been at least an hour longer easy.
VandyHeel 3 months ago
@VandyHeel I was hoping this would be the longest one of them all considering everything that happened in the final chapters of the book. How is it that Return of the King, Titanic, King Kong, and Avatar were able to go 3 hours long, but the last HP movie is only allowed 2 and a half? Really really REALLY disappointed how the film was contructed in terms of editing and crushed into this aloted time.
eddieyyy3 3 months ago
@eddieyyy3 Return of the Kings was based on a big book, the film was based in just the last 200 pages of the same. Actually, both Deathly Hallows films we're 140 minutes long, but Part 1 ends with the trio arriving to Malfoy Manor. They inserted 20 minutes of Part 2 into Part 1, and that's because both films had to be severely edited. For example, the beginning of Part 2 with Harry at Dobby's grave, it was when they leave Shell Cottage, but they put that shot and digitally erased Evanna.
yonythemoony 3 months ago
@eddieyyy3 how can you say that the editing is terrible when the movie received universal acclaim & two thumbs up from JK Rowling herself?
ghentyboy 3 months ago
@ghentyboy I'm viewing the film from a more technical perspective, but if you were to view it as a whole it absolutely stunning. I'm quite of a film critic and therefore I pay attention to all the film's components. Don't get me wrong I loved the film, but some scenes were edited for time and could've delivered a much more thrilling experience had they kept them in the original length...look up the deleted scenes and see for yourself.
eddieyyy3 3 months ago
@eddieyyy3; I agree..and this film was the shortes of the series..there was more time left..
