You can't say one minute that it's no big that you're gay and that you shouldn't have to introduce yourself as gay, and then get mad when you're mom doesn't automatically assume you're gay or even think to ask you. Like you said, it's not a big deal. His mom is clearly not a homophobe and doesn't have a problem with her son by any means, but he could have been nicer about it.

This was written quite differently than I expected. Not sure how to put it in words, they handled it completely well, as it was more about the communication and relationship with Lucas and his mother, than about Lucas being gay. Though I think the mother should lay some ground rules about bringing guys home, unless of course it's Dex! +*winks* Thank you!
@visitor9627 i totally agree. its a big change from the overrated "i hate your being gay" that most soaps usually start on. it seems that at least more and more people focus on the communication, as you said, which i deeply hope reflects how people nowadays accept homosexuality.

I'm with Lucas here. When I was a teen, even though it totally embarrassed him, my father asked me like once a week if I was dating anyone and it extended into my college years and after . It was part of our normal phone conversation. Strange that she never asked Lucas if he was dating anyone or in love in all the conversations they've probably had. I would feel a bit put out too if I was Lucas. Distance can makes folks lazy though. Hopefully now they can get to know each other properly.
I think she just have to forgive herself for whatever she thinks she's done wrong. It's just what happens when you children live far away from you. I don't think Lucas is resentful so much. She just needs to start from now and not regret the past so much

I loved the scene between Janine and Barbara as well. I've always loved their friendship on the show so I was glad they used that in this storyline.
