Saying it's Diet Coke is very vague. They fail to mention the active ingredient that is causing the problem. I believe this is by design because they are afraid of a lawsuit. This does not help the consumer and I suspect many other articles on what's bad for us leaves out the critical info needed by the consumer. Read your gum packets. The only place I found gum that did not have aspartame was the health food store.

Why is it when these studies are done, they always seem to be done half-assed? As it was stated in the article, it does not show cause and effect, but suggests a link. Don't just "suggest" there's a link. Unequivocally PROVE without a shadow of a doubt that there IS a link. Is that too much to ask? It's like suggesting 2+2 really equals 5 but we won't bother to prove it.

Love your lamp on the dresser. I gave up diet soda and soda and juices and caffine. I only drink water and make sure the water does not have floride in it. This is a good video. There is a new chemical they have made to replace aspartame which is considered more dangerous. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I will look for it and post it to you.

The FDA has been habitually promoting harmful substances as 'healthy', while pressing down on manufacturers who truly do produce healthy foods from being able to list the benefits on their labels. It has become a branch of our government based on deceit and evil. And Snopes is following in their footsteps as an agent of disinfo, about the only thing they're good for is checking the origin of chain emails, they are not the end all on subjects as many people seem to think. Glad you got this out :)

Saying it's Diet Coke is very vague. They fail to mention the active ingredient that is causing the problem. I believe this is by design because they are afraid of a lawsuit. This does not help the consumer and I suspect many other articles on what's bad for us leaves out the critical info needed by the consumer. It very well could be the artificial sweetener which is found in other products. Another failure by the FDA.

Just look at how fizzy drinks were created. They were trying to figure out a way to monetize shavings from cemetery markets. My mother kept lots of diet drinks in the home in the 1970s and my health went haywire. Think about it, and do not drink nor bathe in fluoridated water! There are easy ways to get water out of the air. I turned down a flu shot a few years ago with aspartame and mercury in them and the doc and pharmacist confessed they would not take it, either! I am in France now.

That includes the inability of solving problems based on common sense. We also have been conditioned to go along in order to avoid problems. Diet Soda has aspartame in it which breaks down into low grade alcohol in equivalent to moonshine liquor. The side effects from moonshine are blindness. Wow. Glenn Beck announced a while back that he will go blind within a year. Ok he drinks diet coke. What a surprise. The video above from the truther girls will tell you a lot more. Now, the FDA total budget is 3 billion (2010) and 4 billion (2011) so how much do you think goes to research of all those drugs after they pay all the food inspectors, administrators etc?
Try going to fda dot gov and finding a comprehensive budget report -- see how long it takes you.

I use to drink 4 cans of diet pepsi a day and sugar free red bull. I drank them for about 2 years before reading up on aspartame. While I was drinking them I had frequent sciatic nerve pain, eye twitching, dizzy spells, Blood pressure was over 200. I am still fat and lazy but at least I am not embalming myself anymore. Knowledge is power and aspartame is poison.

About 12 years ago I found out diabetes runs in my family and I could expect to have it.I avoided sugar since then and used aspertame. Once I saw sweet misery on google video I will not touch the stuff and my family trust me enough to avoid it too.

@srs7734 The Ginger Ale I checked had High Fructose Corn Syrup (Possibly laced with Mercury). The bottle went back on the shelf. One person did a study and about half the soft-drinks with HFCS are laced with Mercury. Look for the Democracy now clip on the subject.

Wow, I guess I'm screwed. I've been drinking A six pack of the 24oz bottles of Diet Mt. dew a day for the last 10 or 12 years. I haven't had water in 2 or 3 years, occasionally I'll have a cup of coffee. I have actually lost 25 pounds in the last year, of course I haven't been to a doctor in about 20 years. Hell. Read your gum packets. The only place I found gum that did not have aspartame was the health food store.
Also check for the word "phenylalanine" in the warning. Another sign the product has aspartame from my understanding. Also I have read it Aspartame is linked to Alzheimers. It's amazing how many products contain this crap.
Beware of Nutr*sweet. A celebrity promotes an product as healthy doesn't mean it is.

I will try sending a link to your blog to two friends who suck down the diet soda, buying it by the 24 pack case. Both have a rather paranoid sense of things, which could make sense if they focused upon issues like this. Also, both could lose some weight & thus I do suspect it increases a craving for carbs. I hope people by now don't believe the FDA and cola manufacturers' claims. Also, if memory serves me it wasn't banned by the FDA, it was rejected a few times, but finally approved when Reagan replaced one of the FDA heads who muscled it through despite opposition. He left the FDA after an unrelated scandal and took a job with the manufacturer of aspartame.

I've been using aspartame since it originally came out, and use it every day.
From what I find, as reported in scientific journals, it is harmless to most people.

I stopped eating and drinking diet products containing aspartame years ago. It is very toxic to your brain, muscle and nervous system. If I eat just one piece of diet gum, I get pains all over my body, especially in my joints and my nerves. Believe me, this stuff is very BAD for you. I hope Donald Rumsfeld burns in hell for all the crimes he has committed.
If you still need to drink soda, drink the regular stuff.

@JP5466 I used to be 'addicted' to soda! I quit by 'weaning myself off the fizzy', watering my soda down with juice, eventually just drinking juice, then watering that down until eventually I was down to water. And I don't miss it one bit! Full of salt and sugar- blecchh!
I still drink lime Perrier from time to time and that's as close as I get to soda.
