I still don't get why in america learn do drive in an automatic car? Thank god that we learn from 10 or 11 to drive stick... In all europe that's hot the driving test is... You have to drive a manual and then if you want, you get an automatic...
@largestBear He's learning how to move the vehicle forward through Throttle Application. How's putting the "handbreak on" [sic] supposed to help in that regard? O_o
I really don't understand how it is possible that any man (I'd doubt the fact he is a man... lookin' at his hairstyle, let him go to DOWN concert, Phil Anselmo would teach him a lesson called "How to be a man") can have problems with manual transmission... I just can't stand it. I knew how to use it when I was 11 or 12 years old. I'm not an american-boy and that's the point I think. Greetings from Poland.
@Razzeer2 ROarwwwwaaaa...Big man Pollock popped out the pussy banging 6 gears like Dale E. No practice needed...
What kind of man runs his mouth ragging on a kid for his hair style and his learning experience...Why don't you go find a comfortable spot and get ready for what's coming your way, for it's only a matter of time a big mouth prick like you gets the old Tallywhacker forced down his throat for being a bitch to his fellow man.
@MisterMisterFun I just don't like the fact that these days a man no longer needs to be a man... he can be a pussy/cunt which can be easily slayed by some random girl. It's not about bein' aggressive or big like The Rock. It's about having some guts. What had been normal thing years before is now considered to be alpha-male. Understood?
@Razzeer2 Same, I learned how to drive with a stick in a 1941 armored car, thats 11 tons to get moving. I was 7 when I started to learn. Somethings a boy should just know.
@DavidSlagter I bet I can't stand next to you when it comes to just being "so cool". Your sarcastic tone which I did't get (or rather you thought I won't) could be the definition of being cool.
@Razzeer2 I didn't try to hide my sarcastic tone. You would be pretty dumb if you wouldn't get it tbh. Bet you aren't even old enough to drive yet looking at your comment.
@m0t0cr0ss17 How hard was it?Ive only drove automatic and im gettin a 5speed Integra GSR and ive never drive stick before, but im a pretty quick learner. From what Ive seen the hardest part is intially going forward.
@harlemkiid149 its not hard at all like the dude said its about feel. ( i race motocross so i was used to the concept of a clutch and i got the hang of it), hills get scary when someones on ur bumper, but just practice makes u a pro! u really dont have to give it alot of gas when ur starting, or else ur gunna burn out, its really sensative if u give it rpms, and dont pop the clutch let it out nice and slo.. its ez once u get a manuel ull never go back
@harlemkiid149 if u dont have alot of people infront of you u can use the engine breaking jus shift down thru the gears. for the breaks themself u can break with out clutching as long as u dont slam on them and kill the motor, i started out clutching everytime i breaked and i think i burned out my clutch lol
@Nizmo370Z yeah haha tell me about it but yeah once u learn u never wanna go back.. and after a couple times ur good at it. u should give it a try if u dont kno how to alrdy.. good life skill.. and the stick shift cars are generally cheaper lol
When i grew up i spend a lot of tim at my friends farm, we got a old Volvo PV and drove it across the fields alot, i think we were twelve or thirteen thats when i lerned how to drive.
@TheKyleawesome ya your right because when you operate a very expensive and dangerous piece of machinery in a different way that your not familiar with. oh and how could i forget, while in front of your family and youtube. its really easy!
Is he not coordinated? Looks like this is the first time hes driven. Hence "dont turn the key that much". Learn on automatic, after a year learn stick. Its easy, my first was a manual after 1 year or driving my parents auto.
@element509 >"Learn on automatic, after a year learn stick."
Wahaaat?! That's the worst way to learn to drive a Standard. So many bad habits get ingrained driving an Automatic first, like slamming on the Throttle to do a simple "downshift" when passing. And you fail to develop that muscle memory on your left leg because you've only worked your right leg for so long.
@RingSight91 No not really. If you are partially coordinated, its easy to catch on manual. Learning to drive Auto first is better because when first learning to drive you get the hang of what to do in situations, and dont have to worry about shifting. Its better to learn how to manuever through traffic, and driving in it at first so your ready for whatever is coming. Also when your learning to drive some people tend to hesitate. That moment is when you can cause a crash.
@element509 You're assuming "learning to drive a vehicle" automatically equals "learning to maneuver said vehicle in traffic from the get go". That's a faulty assumption, no thanks to your short-cut-taking parents. Phase 1 Objective is Vehicular Control --- in a Controlled Environment WITHOUT the distraction of other vehicular traffic. Only when you have been proven able to safely control the car (& pedals) at ALL times, without a second thought, should you venture out into traffic for Phase 2.
@RingSight91 OR if the kid isnt mentally retarded in not knowing what to do in a car, they can just take out neighborhood roads or backroads where no one really drives, learn control, then take it out into traffic. I was taken out into traffic after 15 minutes of driving. I was driving on highways after about an hour and 30 min of driving. I can drive and control a car better then most people out there when I was 17. What your stating is the way people do it at fail drivers ed.
@element509 Well obviously the kid had no instruction or illustration at all on how the clutch mechanism works. To the uninitiated, pressing a pedal "engages something". Obviously the opposite is true with the clutch pedal.
And how do you "learn control" the right way, especially in an emergency, when the methods are completely different when there's a third pedal involved? What "you thought you knew" driving auto-in-traffic+in-an-emergency can backfire driving stick.
Im sorry maybe its the lighting or the angle but is that car wearing a bra?!(those covers to protect the front of the car,you guys know what I mean)and it seems like this guy is teaching his son stick because the wife forced him to or something,I wouldnt let my kid drive a 5.0 I had for nothin.
it would be better if you were being a real dad and sitting in the car with him and showing him what he should do and not do, instead of worrying about getting this on youtube. the only credit i give you is not being impatient and not being so pissed about him stalling.
You need to tell your son, When first taking off he should roll of the clutch a little bit and find the sweet spot to give it gas and finish letting off the Clutch pedal. I have been driving Manual my whole life. Started out when i was 10 years old in my dads old car. around the farm lol. He seemed to be doing better towards the end. Tell him another trick to being on hills is to use the Emergency brake that would help him a lot as well.By now he should be a pro at driving it though.
rule of thumb when I teach any of my buddies to drive stick the safest place is surprisingly is in the vehicle not around it, not behind it, not in front of it, and certainly not in front of it an angle!
How hard really is driving stick? Been driving for about 8 months with a tiptronic and I wanna know how long it usually takes to get used to manual? few days?
@gatesvilleblues i know right? i had a blazer i traded for a 5 speed eclipse and my dad crashed it so i bought an automatic eagle talon turbo awd and i hate it! bugs me.. i want to be in control of my car! so im trading it for a 2000 5 speed mustang
@gatesvilleblues Actually it should be "once you learn to drive a stick shift WELL, you'll never drive an automatic again".
Most people drive stick once or twice and think they are the shit. When I say most people, I am referring to the majority of youtube comments on every driving related video.
Also people who bitch about manuals in traffic means they can't drive stick well.
I've driven all my life, it is part of me and very natural.
@HowToDoCalculus Driving auto gives less fun. What's more you can't rev that high with auto. I'd give a try a semi-auto with paddles, would be nice I think.
@gatesvilleblues That is so true. My first vehicle was a 99 Ford ranger 4 speed. Loved the stick shift Then it was a 2000 jeep cherokee automatic -.- i hated it. Then i test drove a 2001 Honda civic Loved it. Now im on a 2002 Saturn LS
You SHOULD have told him not to let off the clutch so fast and not hammer the gas so quickly. it's a slow balance. No offense! but that was just something I noticed :)
I'm 17 and just bought an 86 GT 5.0 5speed Convertiblee, also have a 79 Trans Am 4speed and no clue how to drive a stick yet lol, will be learning this weekend, thanks for sharing the vid.
@F1TO8 Not totally, I only had maybe half an hr. of practice one night in the Mustang because the damn secretary of state hrs. but I've gotten the jist of it I think lol
for some people its extremely hard others it comes to them instantly...i tought myself in my back yard going back and forth on my basketball court in a 67 mustang straight 6 3 speed...then the first time on the road in my sisters 99 v6 mustang 5 speed at 14 yrs old...she was still learning to drive it.. my dad and i went to get stuff at the store he pulls over tells me toslide over and go...did it so well i actually got grounded cuz he thought i was taking the car out in the middle of the night.
new people learning to drive a stick need to understand that its not that hard first off.. and you dont have be fast just let out the clutch slowly till the rpms start going down then start giving just a tad of gas and let out the clutch and away you go! i had a hard time for a few weeks till i got used to it
@countryboyG true but you also have to get a feel for the cluch iv driven my brother civic and it staled on me just because i wasent used to it and my dads truck is totaly diferent from my bros car in the truck you can feel the clutch grab

Starting a n00b in such a tight spot is risky, and starting with a 5.0 is even more so. They have so little torque that they are difficult to start out in, and the power band is difficult for inexperienced people to control.
I don't blame him, a 5.0 mustang usually has a stage 3 clutch made for racing, first time I did it, it was hard to push in the clutch. He'll get it! C:
im 14 and i remember somtime last year i drove a nissan hardbody truck..it was mannual...i was driving in a feild a kept stalling it until i finally got it for like 30 minutes...then when i take it back to park it i stall it lmao
@GeorgeHurst08 The automatic is much more popular here than over in Europe for some reason. Perhaps because we tend to drive a lot more, over longer distances, etc. Auto is kind of considered the "norm" for non-motoring-enthusiasts.
hey just to piss him off im 14 and the other day my parents finally let me drive our jeep (stick) for the first time and damn was it easy i only stalled it pullin into our drive way

lol it took me about 2 days to get use to mine.. once ya find the sweet spot in the clutch youll be fine... lol let me see him doo a hugee hill
madison1828 3 months ago
You SHOULD have told him not to let off the clutch so fast and not hammer the gas so quickly. it's a slow balance. No offense! but that was just something I noticed :)

for some people its extremely hard others it comes to them instantly...i tought myself in my back yard going back and forth on my basketball court in a 67 mustang straight 6 3 speed...then the first time on the road in my sisters 99 v6 mustang 5 speed at 14 yrs old...she was still learning to drive it.. my dad and i went to get stuff at the store he pulls over tells me toslide over and go...did it so well i actually got grounded cuz he thought i was taking the car out in the middle of the night.

new people learning to drive a stick need to understand that its not that hard first off.. and you dont have be fast just let out the clutch slowly till the rpms start going down then start giving just a tad of gas and let out the clutch and away you go! i had a hard time for a few weeks till i got used to it

I drive a five speed every day. I got in my friends 5.0, stalled it out two times in a row! They are really hard to get used to!!

What a hideous fucking family.
Gargoylezbreath 4 months ago
Starting a n00b in such a tight spot is risky, and starting with a 5.0 is even more so. They have so little torque that they are difficult to start out in, and the power band is difficult for inexperienced people to control.

18 and cant drive a stick? pathetic. ive been driving a manual since i was 7.
Ajacques8000 4 months ago
When I started driving I was really good, my only problem was the start up I would stall about 90%.
I think i've only just got the hang of it cause i'm still underaged therefore I can't get any practice on roads.
sirprincy 4 months ago
I don't blame him, a 5.0 mustang usually has a stage 3 clutch made for racing, first time I did it, it was hard to push in the clutch. He'll get it! C:

Why do americans seem to make such a big deal aout driving "stick"?
GeorgeHurst08 5 months ago
@GeorgeHurst08 we do not people have to learn sometime
ThePatriotsfan01 5 months ago
@GeorgeHurst08 The automatic is much more popular here than over in Europe for some reason. Perhaps because we tend to drive a lot more, over longer distances, etc. Auto is kind of considered the "norm" for non-motoring-enthusiasts.
TheKatoom 4 months ago
@TheKatoom I thought it was through laziness :P
GeorgeHurst08 4 months ago
@GeorgeHurst08 Haha also probably true. I never knew what I was missing, all our cars were auto's. Bought my first standard never gone back.
