I am not in favor of horse slaughter. Horses have been our companion animals for centuries, and bred to be that, not bred for food. But there are too many horses, and not enough good homes for them. Better that some should be cleanly slaughtered than watch them die slowly of starvation and neglect. And, yes, it IS possible for a thorough and conscientous slaughterman to use the captive bolt gun effectively on horses, destroying the brain instantly and painlessly. But many are idiots.

@Dominique6586 and that friend voluntarily sold it. Not many horses are stolen and sold to slaughterhouses. Most are sold willingly by the owner to any willing buyer at auction, which can be a kill buyer. If people did not sell off their horses because the kids lost interest or the horse got old or wasn't winning anymore, then the blame lies with the owner who values money more than the horse.

@2433006guy horse slaughter is illegal in the states, most of the horses coming INTO Canada are from the states, the Americans have found a crafty way to get around their laws. Everyone has to do their part instead of just sitting around and bitchn'. Support people in your area that rescue animals, my sister has a small farm where alone she rescues horses from auctions destined for slaughter amongst other animals, cows, fowl, pigs, goats...she's not rich, but she does her part.

If not banned, at least find a way to slaughter them more humanely. Ever see the video of the Belgian draft horse being slaughtered? I have, as I have stated, 7 horses. 5 of them were, I guess, rescues. One I purchased from an abusive situation, and the older mare had a beautiful filly in late Sept.! There are meat buyers here, and they often stop at farms where they see horses, to see if there are any that are old, or injured that would be available to them. I have given them the full tour, had coffee with them, and told them the pots always on, and they are welcome to stop, but my horses will never be sold to them.

The only least/non-painful way to kill animal for eating purposes is by using the knife like its told in Islam and other Abrahmic religions (Christianity and Judaism). NOT by hitting or electric shocks. It develops a certain hormone in the blood which affects the taste of meat.

Horse meat is actually great tasting and much healthier than cow. Before I tried it, I always suspected horses were delicious. They look so lean and robust. The horse I ate in Spain was humanely killed with a quick club to the head several times. I don't see what the problem is.

Rarely did it take longer than 5 minutes for them to peacefully leave the world for a higher calling. They barely felt a thing. There seemed to be an unspoken understanding with the horses. They aren't beaten to death, they are clubbed to death only in the head with an approved club for such practices. Horses died in medieval times so it's history as well.

The horses are fed snacks during the clubbing so they may not even be aware it is happening. They don't say anything that indicates suffering. And what about me? This is the circle of life. I am not in favor of horse slaughter. Horses have been our companion animals for centuries, and bred to be that, not bred for food. But there are too many horses, and not enough good homes for them. Better that some should be cleanly slaughtered than watch them die slowly of starvation and neglect. And, yes, it IS possible for a thorough and conscientous slaughterman to use the captive bolt gun effectively on horses, destroying the brain instantly and painlessly. But many are idiots.

Most are sold willingly by the owner to any willing buyer at auction, which can be a kill buyer. If people did not sell off their horses because the kids lost interest or the horse got old or wasn't winning anymore, then the blame lies with the owner who values money more than the horse.

@2433006guy horse slaughter is illegal in the states, most of the horses coming INTO Canada are from the states, the Americans have found a crafty way to get around their laws. Everyone has to do their part instead of just sitting around and bitchn'. Support people in your area that rescue animals, my sister has a small farm where alone she rescues horses from auctions destined for slaughter amongst other animals, cows, fowl, pigs, goats...she's not rich, but she does her part.

I have, as I have stated, 7 horses. 5 of them were, I guess, rescues. One I purchased from an abusive situation, and the older mare had a beautiful filly in late Sept.! There are meat buyers here, and they often stop at farms where they see horses, to see if there are any that are old, or injured that would be available to them. Horse meat is actually great tasting and much healthier than cow. Before I tried it, I always suspected horses were delicious. They look so lean and robust. The horse I ate in Spain was humanely killed with a quick club to the head several times. I don't see what the problem is.

@LegendxWind Why must you respond with such violence? Everyone wants peace in this world. The horses were clubbed in a humane manner and died within minutes. Rarely did it take longer than 5 minutes for them to peacefully leave the world for a higher calling. They barely felt a thing. There seemed to be an unspoken understanding with the horses. Almost a nod of approval from them that they knew that it was not in vain. Burgers, steak, nuggets, and many local Spanish dishes.

@LegendxWind How about you try at least eating ONE horse before you cast judgement? I've both not eaten horses and have eaten horses so I have experience with both sides. They aren't beaten to death, they are clubbed to death only in the head with an approved club for such practices. They are professionals at horse slaughter so the horse doesn't even know what's going on. They feed the horse as they club it so it's give and take. Horses died in medieval times so it's history as well.

The horses are fed snacks during the clubbing so they may not even be aware it is happening. They don't say anything that indicates suffering. And what about me? This is the circle of life. How am I supposed to gain nourishment if the horse is still standing? Hey, I love horses, they are nice animals. But sometimes necessity needs to be considered.

Why slaughter horses? They're the animals we use to help mental children and other people that need help. Don't kill these heroes. This should be illegal. Cold-hearted riders often send their horses to slaughter if the horse messes up. Instead of killing them, open a retirement home for horses so we won't have to hear about slaughtering these beautiful and majestic animals ever again. :(

For all the idiots that are arguing, it is legal to eat horse meat in the U.S. However, it is illegal to slaughter horses for human consumption. The reason why, is that American horses are pumped full of steroids and hormones and all of that other icky stuff. Italy have horses that are pure, no hormones or any of that. It's perfectly fine to eat. It is also one of the most healthiest meats you can put in your system. Look it up before you talk, geez...Idiots on youtube make me mad.
