I remember getting an snes with this game for Christmas as a kid, and never reading the instruction manual. I just looked at it recently, and there's a whole comic in the manual with a plot for the game. Nice.

I used to play F-zero all the time as a kid, but where does it list the racer's names, and how in the world do people know what they look like?

Liiiike... I know captain falcon is in smash brothers, but where did he appear in the original games?

Probably in the instruction manual. Otherwise you wouldn't know until the N64 game.
