I've had my 333xl for over 3 years now and still going strong. changed the tubes 3 times... taken good care of it. People say these amps dont last. Half of them don't know how to take care of a tube amp
Well, Got one two month ago, 25th of august 2011. Out of the box came with power light fused. Then it started changing to the clean channel by itself...
Contacted the store that sold the amp: 2 months to get it repaired. Contacted Bugera, send the receipt. They told me it wasn´t bought from an authorised dealer. I got the invoice of the sale from the Portuguese representer, Sonigate to the store that i bought from. Bugera said the amp was out of warranty. It's a very bad buy.
Props to this review. This is the only youtube 333XL video that has it boosted, noise gated, and a good guitar, and the music i play in it. I think im sold on this fuckin unit.
@MetalVideoGameMusic if i were you man, i would honestly save and get something more reliable used (peavey XXX or JSX) before buying one of these. yea, it sounds really good but these amps are HIGHLY prone to failure. buyer beware!!
Wanted to ask you something, lets say umm killswitch engage were playing with this amp, they also use the maxon overdrive, how do they manage to switch between the clean tone and the lead so fast? i mean they need to turn off the lead on the footswitch and turn off the overdrive, then turn on the clean channel and the delay sometimes, please help, i really dont get it :p
they can have two amps splitted..with 2 effects chain one for every amp...by pressin one button you can switch to clean/dist or some pedals are midi controlled and can be bypassed with one click
@o0PapaMax0o Well KSE have been known to play with Mesa's and Peavey's which I think are capable of MIDI switching by a separate controller. This means their guitar techs 'program' up a switching unit so that when they press one button it engages all the separate loops for the pedals they require on at that time (imagine each pedal is a separate loop) and at the same time, the MIDI signal tells the amp to change channel. OR because they are rich, they just have multiple amp heads.
@Obigrobi666 I would say that it doesn't. The 333XL has similar qualities to the 6505 more than the JSX. The JSX doesn't contain huge amounts of gain saturation like the 333XL. This amp is very tight and Doesn't have as much clarity at high gain levels unfortunately. It's really just a rhythm player's dream.
pff yeah that riff in the beggining is such killer. u didn't exactly copy it so it's not fully a stealing :D but yeah I really like it too. brutal and really melody like
Hey which rating did ya end up on for the Groove Tubes. I need to change mine on the 333xl and I'm diggin your tone. I got a similar set up. ESP Jeff Hanneman signature Guitar > Maxon OD9 Pro+ > Boss NS-2 > Korg Pitch Black in front of the amp.
sweet man. I am changing out my preamps too. so far i added a Tung-Sol 12ax7 and a jj ecc83s. i'm thinking about getting the ecc83s gold pins and also have a JAN GE 5751 coming for the phase invertor. how are the kt77's? did ya have to mod the amp to run them?
i think i had these settings... Presence- 12 o'clock Gain- 2 o'clock Bass-11 o-clock Mid- 8-9 o'clock Treble- 1 o'clock Maxon OD-9: Drive- 8 o'clock Tone- 3 o'clock Level- 2 o'clock These are kinda straight from memory, i may be slightly off, but that's pretty much the same settings i have used since then. in this vid, i had Groove Tube EL34's too...
coming very soon; just bought a Bogner Alchemist. i have paired it with the 333XL run stereo into the bugera cab and so far all i can say is it has OBSCENE amounts of tone and gain!! vid coming very soon!!!
to be honest, i have played this amp thru a few different cabs, and the bugera cab still sounds the best. i personally think (having owned many active emg guitars) that my petrucci pickups sound better than EMG's but i am sure they would sound fine. i highly suggest the Maxon OD-9 overdrive though.
update: my amp is now operational again. there was a circuit that arced out and burnt a transistor in the process. the guy that fixed it hard wired a few of the main circuits so i should be good now
because the one on the amp isn't a noise gate in the traditional sense. the noise gate on this amp pretty much just eliminates that ultra-high frequency 'hiss' that you get when you turn a high gain amp up really loud. it doesn't mute the guitar at all like a Boss NS-2. with the Maxon OD9, you definitely need the Boss noise gate
thanks for all of the comments and ratings!! the cab is a Bugera cab. I haven't personally played it thru anything else yet, but if you want the absolute best cab for this kind of music, i HIGHLY recommend a Splawn cab hands down. btw, the guitar is a John Petrucci signature Music Man hehe :)
Great tone. I have a 333xl head too. Recommend me a cab to match it... I was looking for a good one... Review me the bugera cab... Is it good(because its cheap and that is good being cheap if it sounds good, lol) or recommend me another 2x12 or 4x12 cab... Thanks.
It fuck'n sounds like fuck'n Killswitch Engage, fuck'n nice

so the 333xl is "inspired" by the JSX from peavey right?
does it sound like the peavey too?
i heard the 6262 sounds exactly like the 6505+.
have you ever compared them?

I am seriously considering this amp. Is it fully tubed? I will not buy another solid state amp.
I am dying for that super warm tube sound with clean and high gain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
