The little boy whose name is Patrick tells the dispatcher either "My mama's sick" or "My mom is sick." He wasn't playing he was serious. He knew his mother needed help right away and Patrick asked for it. What a smart kid! Good job Patrick!
911 is a joke. I called once when a neighbor's friend had an epilepsy seizure, and it took them over 1/2 hour before they arrived. When I called them back to find out why they were taking so long, they said, "ohhh, the rescue squad in this town didn't respond, and we're sending an ambulance from (a town 17 miles away)." If the person who needed them was having a heart attack, she would have died!
911 WORKS! There are rare cases where the system doesn't respond as fast as it should but in the end it still works.
On another episode, they explained how they "code" calls, that seizure may have been a Code-2, whereas the town's ambulance could've been on a Code-1 (and more serious) call....like a heart attack?
Bless his little heart! He was a smart little boy and so cute! :D I'm so glad the dispatcher believed him and didn't think it was a crank call. Yeah crank callers could cause someone's death either by tying up the phone lines or making someone else not get help because the dispatcher thinks it's the same crank callers when it's really an emergency.
He was so smart to not hang up when the dispatcher raised her voice to him and to go flag the ambulance when they arrived. It was cute when he said please after asking for an ambulance. Incredible kid.
Now that they can trace crank callers with their computer I think ever home from where a crank call to 911 comes from should get a nice hefty fine! That will will make the parents keep the kids from playing like that!
Where I am at, we have something called Phase II E911 for cell phones, and they can pinpoint the location almost instantly which is great for people who actually need emergency assistance and for the idiots who prank call. And they can actually go to jail for prank calling 911.
Hmm, I've been trying to find more info about that 9-1-1 dispatcher who got fired but I can't seem to find any. I did find one about a trainee who after he hung up from a call said he really didn't give a shit what happened to the lady while he was still being recorded, but I can't find anything about the other case.
OMG! I'm glad he got fired for that! I do remember a sad case on the news where 5 YR old called for help for his mom and the operater would not send an ambulance because she though it was a crank call and the poor kid had called her like 3 times and his mom ended up dying. She should have gotten fired too for that!
in aus if u make a prank call to the police they can trace it and fine you for wasting peoples time and if some1 was dieing they could have died while some1 was making a prank call
Shatner says, "The 911 system was designed to speed up the response time in an emergency."
That may have been what they were designed to do, but they didn't follow through. One time, a friend of a neighbor had a seizure, the neighbor panicked, and told me to call 911. Took them over a half hour for the rescuers to arrive. When I called them back, the operator said, "Oh, the rescue squad from New Paltz didn't respond, and we're sending the squad from Kingston" (17 miles away).
I´m a lifeguard and EMT and I know the situation only too well, when people tell you storys and that sometimes makes it very hard to rake everyone serious.
I remember reading about this young boy who was calling for help and the 911 dispatcher rudely told the boy to stop playing around or he was going to be arrested for making a prank call even though the boy was not making a prank call and that his mother was seriously in need of medical attention and could not make the call herself. As the result of the 911 dispatcher's complete disregard for the seriousness of the situation, the mother died.
I think he's talking about a different dispatcher who treated a call from a child as a prank, and someone ended up dying. You can probably see who he's replying do if you click the view all comments option at the bottom of the screen.
There however was a 9-1-1 caller that thought a kid was pranking and his mom died because of it.
Were I live police are coming if you enter the digits 911 on you phone, whether you stay on the line and say it was an accident, whether you called as a prank, whether you hang-up. The police will come not matter what, it's a policy I guess.
years ago there was a 911 call and they always say to be calm when ur talking them and telling them whats wrong, and there was a girl who was hiding under the bed and she called saying my sister is being raped and im under the bed. she was being extreamly calm because they always told you too and the operator didnt believe her and never sent an ambulance because she was too "calm" and then girl ended up getting killed.
when i was about 16 we had two phone lines we'd called the phone company cause our second line was dialing numbers and hanging up it dialed 911 finaly the phone company fixed our phone they didn't take to kindly to the phone company refusing to fix the line now that both my sisters are moved out and we have cable internet we no longer have the second line
it should be alot worse than that, because when they were rushing to your "prank" another person who seriously needed it could have been dieing cus they came to ur prank instead of their actual problem
Life is simple, but people make it hard and complicated. 911 is there for emergencies if people do not use it to call a cop for a date than every call would be taken seriously...
one very mature women called 911 to send the same cop again that was in her house AND THE EMERGENCY WAS " HE WAS HOT AND SHE LIKED HIM"
She's not a nun, but a sister. The fact is that nuns are sisters, but not all sisters are nuns. Nuns live in a community called a cloister. Sisters mostly live in convents, but sometimes, there are communities that let their sisters live together in houses. That's probably what was the case here. :0)
he may be adoped ,and the child may not know who his real mother is,,,you hear alot about grandparents takeing care of the g-kids like their own and may find it damageing to the kids to tell them thats also so confussing to kids
it seems that shatner likes kids and babies because in the 1st season there seems to be more kid related segments from accidental shootings to this segment.
Public Enemy did the song because of their view that EMTs ran late when responding to emergencies in poor and/or predominantly black neighborhoods. Besides that, a little kid just shouldn't be listening to Public Enemy (or parents shouldn't be playing it with their kids in earshot).
Gregorkrause, I just played a clip of the song you mentioned, and that's what the kids are singing. Evidently, those lyrics were clearly over their heads. The song itself certainly puts a bad message into their minds. It's certainly not appropriate for a little kid to listen to that kind of music.
