Dr. William's comment about "outsiders, late comers and those with few resources" is true regardless of what you think of his conclusions. If it were possible to eliminate racisim from the human mind, doing so would still not fix the tragic lot of blacks in this country. Blacks starting out behind makes it nearly impossible for them as a group to catch up unless the rules for entering the competitive market are eased. Affirmative action and the minimum wage just make it harder to for new comers.
Every employee produces many times the amout they are paid. Look at mcdonalds for example. an employee makes more than $500 in four hours, but the $3.59/h paid were not enough to buy a single McMenu. YOu may call low wages incentives, and encreasing the competition. But I do not see anyone compelled to work by $2.50 or less.
Such policy could only benifit the employee which would have an massive increase in profit.
Going back to the no "freewage" is not an correct alternative to the MW.
And why would a black worker be willing to be paid $3 when the minimal is $3.5.
By accepting that he would imply that all blacks are inferior which would deminish their self-pride.
If we live in an equal society we must have laws to differenciate even and uneven wages.
What the MW did was taking the power of the employees to exploit the workers. It gave a minimal standart of labor worth. I would like you to applaude the $
Knowledge and the correct application of the knowledge are required for safe electrical work, not a license. Besides that almost all electrical work requires a safety inspection by the municipality involved.
Computer science degree - no formal electrician training but have done extensive electrical work in home. Safety inspector considered it some of the neatest and best work he had seen. I did have the knowledge, from other jobs but no license.
Licenses are required in some professions for safty purposes, if an unskilled and un licensesed electrician burned Dr. Williams house down; I'm sure it would be the regulators fault. Blacks need to stay in school for the education needed to be skilled!
@jgill450 I bet you assume that were there no licenses for electricians that houses would burn down willy nilly, and you'd be 150% wrong. The electricians would be directly accountable for their actions, and in turn they would either do a good job or pay the price. Where as with licensing if an unlicensed electrician does work on your house and it burns down, it's incredibly difficult to do anything to him, because you should have checked to see if he was licensed first... tbc
@jgill450 of course those with licenses charge a much higher rate than they would were they to have the type of competition they would get were anyone that had the drive able to be an electrician without having to be approved to do so by the gov.
We still haven't even gotten into why there needs to be a license to do something like style hair, or give a pedicure....
i also really like his comment about the taxis. the fact that taxi licenses cost so much is insane. lowering the prices would help consumers, create jobs, and lower cab fares.
Jim Crow had children and granchildren .I guess Step N Fechen had some kids too . Michael Steel , Shelby Steel , Thomas Sewell and apoligist for white suprmacy like Sir Hanky head Wlater Williams.
Oh I see, with the reality that blacks earn around 60 cents for every dollar whites make with a minimum wage law intact, the only way to deal with this is for there to be no minimum wage so that blacks can be offered even less [while doing away with welfare] TO LIVE ON. While this may placate white's attitudes it does little to address the real problem of white supremacy and capitalism which is the ultimate function Dr. William performs in American discourse
@DaudMusa - Didn't you hear the point about South Africa? Without the minimum wage laws, black workers would have continued to be hired over whites. That means that white workers would have been forced to choose between unemployment, or accepting lower wages. Market forces would have helped to equalize the income levels. An overall decrease in wages would not necessarily be catastrophic, as it would reduce demand for goods and prices would eventually have to go down too.
@muridsilat unions in south africa were very open about why they liked raising min wage laws. not to help the poorer blacks but to remove competition.
