I always go back and listen to the Cars. One of my favorite bands of all time. You can't really have one favorite band because there are so many and there is so much good music.O.K. before I start sounding gay,I just wanted to say that Benjamin Orr reminds me of the actor Rutger Hauer.
@jimbamboozled Hé, you said it, i watched Blind Fury a year and some months ago, and some thing Rutger Houwer said or did reminded me of the singer of this band (didn't know his name back then). Added it up and the movie was about just after the time period they were very popular. Then again, could be a weird coincidence.
age does nothing to diminish this man's voice or sex appeal. his comment at the announcement shows he was funny and humble, too. how i wish he were still around making music.
Benjamin Orr... Gone but not forgotten. Rest easy my friend... And we will keep spinning your awesome music that you left for us. Your place will never be taken and your fans sorely miss your presence. 11 years ago today... A sad day in rock history.... A sad day I will never forget...R.I.P.
A local Radio station WBOS had free lunchtime concerts inside South Station in downtown Boston. The acoustics were great. I saw many many sold out headliners the day after sellout performances in Boston and Providence. The concerts were low key 30-45 minute sets. There were about 30-40 folding chairs in the area. I wish the still held them there.
Ben Orr was Czech American. Notice the facial structure, piercing eyes, elevated eyelids and domineering jawbone. I studied anthropology and am convinced that people of white European heritage are superior in looks and intelligence and yes, that's coming from me, a Latino! LOL
Ben couldn't help that he always looked soo wonderful, and hey, we ALL change. He had a kind heart and was strong through a terrible illness...so let's all remember these things.
@theotherguy245689 not a nice comment considering he was positively skeletal in his last interview...I'd rather have him back the way he was here any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I know I'm not alone.
@hazeltyler89 no offense man, im just sayin it as a statement. i like ben as much as you do, its just i know right before he got sick, he kinda let himself go. but i do think he looks better here then he does as just skin and bones
@theotherguy245689 no offence taken on my part, lol...I took it on Ben's....We could all take better care of ourselves. Ben's life was cut short by a devastating disease that we've all been touched by in one way or another...I just don't understand why it seemed necessary to point out he looked like most other 40ish year olds in NA is all. He didn't deserve the hand he was dealt, but in any case, I can see the blessings born out of it. Cheers.
thank's for loading this for all of us to enjoy. First of all I want to say this is my favorate song of the 80's, Benjamin Orr a great american singer, songwriter and musician. no doubt he has touched lives, certainly mine as a teen, and now as an adult. RIP Ben Orr you will be missed but never forgotten!!! from Lance

Life is not FAIR ...I know that ...... I hear Ric is playing again ... I hope the Cars re-form and tour again ... They belong in the RR Hall of fame !!!
@oceans20113 God didn't kill Ben and take him, sickness did, as God is a kind and loving being, RIP means until Jesus comes back to battle Satan to regain control of the earth, of life, may you REST IN PEACE until I come back and lift you up out of the grave and give you life again in a new world and unaging, sickness free world. Life without end.
@MuffettG100 Are you 8 years old? Sorry, there is no God... or fairy tales or the Easter Bunny....
Cancer is a disease that kills people... nothing personal. Life without end you say?? Ever hear that old saying... "If it sound too good to be true..."
@augustmoon0004 .... You really do not have to get nasty. I am well over 8 years old. You have apparently never read the Bible or your family is not any kind of Spiritual people and it rubbed off on you. You are one of these people who does what they want and when they want, and it's usually on the wrong side of God;s given word, such as in, your one of Satan's followers. Enough said as you are a "Sinner" obviously.....!! I have nothing to do with these kinds of people...
@MuffettG100 You mean the bible that was written by men? Imagine you were born on a deserted island with no outside influence, in a million years you will never come up with the name Jesus as your God, yet if you're intelligent and you use your mind you will be able to discover mathematics, biology, science, evolution, etc.. Yes, for those who can't find all the answers (like those people thousands of years ago) you may invent a God to explain what you can't, but you'd never call it Jesus.
@augustmoon0004 Like so many things Scientists find these days they cannot explain and so therefore they use "Theory" to hide behind what they cannot explain. we'd be better off as a human species to accept the fact that certain aspects to our existence cannot be known or quantified or measured much less understood. You can't limit human existence and experience to freakin scientific theory (which there is more scientific theory than fact) which makes them the same as religious. Truth
If I had known he was playing all over the east coast, I would have gone to see him also..LOTS! Sadly, I didn't though and he was my ultimate favorite of anyone for a long time in The Cars days...I would do practically anything to see him...or whatever. Kills me that I missed out on his shows throughout the 90's.
A Beantown Radio Station had an afternoon concert series a South Station in the '90s. I saw several of the shows....great setting, albeit the transient crowd. Ben was an amazing talent & is profoundly missed. RIP
Red Line, Alewife ... South Station, Boston. Took the Green Line to/from Back Bay for three years ... know the "T" all too well. Love ya, miss ya Ben! Oh, hey, thanks for posting this video -- it was terrific! What a voice!
He seemed so down to earth, genuine and from what I understand kind to everyone he met, no sign of arrogance considering he was drueled over by women all the time.
I almost like this version better than the original. The instrumentals were changed around a little bit for the better, lovely, georgeous song. Ben always owned the stage whomever he was with. Miss him so but thanks to You Tube he'll always be with us in our own homes, huh?
I saw the Cars in Philadelphia in the early 80's. Wish I still had the T shirt that I bought there, had a tire tread on it. What a fun night that I'll always remember. Someone threw their hat on stage, Ben picked it up, read it and kept it, wonder what it said on the front. Blew me away when they played Moving in Stereo, sounded like flying saucers were buzzing the room from one side to the other, so COOL !
I wish I could see him live . I am so sad to miss this opportunity. I didn't hear much about him until after his passing. He's such a talented singer other than a well known bass player for the Cars. For many of you who have seen him before his fatal illness, consider yourselves lucky. I still have vocal flashbacks of his most popular song "Stay the Night".
After the Cars, when Benjamin was keeping his music alive, he was all over the east coast in small venues....man, if I had known that, I would have become an "Orrhead". How I would have loved to see him in person.
@salee320 Yes. One option would be to get in touch with someone related to Ben and pose as a businessman interested in releasing a new compilation or box set called "The Ben Orr Experience." I know that he has a son named Benjamin Orr. His son might know who inherited the unreleased master recordings, or at least be able to steer us in the right direction. You have to be confident and creative, otherwise nobody will take you seriously and nothing will be done to release this fantastic music.
Spectacular performance! I just wish the audio was better. This sounds like one of the best live performances of this song. It is a shame about Ben dying. He was such a great musician and singer :( Ben will be missed as well as the Cars in their original line-up.
hey, i was just doing a search for the song " flesh n blood " by the most under rated rock band in the history of Rock (shooting star)/
dont know how i ended up on somones chanel in austraila ,then saw pic i recognized that stoped me in my tracks. . . . . it said "pink" ? . i know the face well R.I.P. my friend .thank you for your music Ben .
I have similar problem. I was born in 1982 and I have never seen him and The Cars live. I feel sorry for that. My died on Monday and I was at him. RIP daddy.
This song is so timeless. i remember when it was hit back when i was an elementary student, when the only "blues" i knew was when it was time to go to school.(I HATED SCHOOL). This song would play when i was on my way to school, and Mr. Orr played this song so melancholy, a real soundtrack to my ride to school! I so regret not seeing him live in the nineties. i guess you live and learn. He just seems like such a cool dude. i wish i could have told him in person how much his music meant to me.
Sometimes his music.... or just the way he sings it.... or remembering how short life is... makes me so sad......but here I am watching & listening again...still. Whitewitch8 is SUCH A FAN. Thank you Benjamin.... :)
Wow...that's saying a lot on behalf of Mr. Orr and his magic...seeing how there's a couple million videos out there....but of course, I'd have to agree. Will never forget him...
Oh god how I loved Ben....a great musician and singer...a very talented man...taken away much too soon. Gone but never forgotten....we still love you Ben. Thanks so much for posting this!
I just found out that his guitarist (the big guy can't remember his name) died about 4 years after Ben...anyone know his name? He was with Ben in July 1998 when they played here in Tarentum PA and he and Ben were both fantastic!
Hey Johnny: Yeah, that's John Kalishes a real close buddy of Ben's for many years who he sometimes introduced as "John Mississippi blind driveway with sprinkles" and I always wanted to know more about those zany references. Gotta love those power chords of his that really nailed down a song. I also heard Ben say on occasion that he "raised him from a puppy". I'll bet those two had some laughs, great times, and great music together.
Best live version of this song I ever herd.I miss Benjamin Orr we lost a great talent and great man.Ben if you can hear us you will live in our hearts forever.
Dear YouTube friends: A TRUE SUPER-MEGA-STAR, MR. ORR! WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU. SOEDAY WE'LL MEET AGAIN!GOD BLESS YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
@jourene1 ..yeah, he is missed..really tragic..what a loss..for him firstly...and for us.
Beautiful singer/musician...great emotional expressiveness in every, consonant..every syllable he sang. ..."He had a style"..as the old soul song said.
love his smile ~

Sadly, pancreatic Cancer. Ben was Brilliant, a kind soul & Gifted. Miss you much Ben RIP!
I saw several WBOS concerts at South station in the early '90s. Very nostalgic & a fun environment for a show. Squeeze was one of my favorites.

@jourene1 ..yeah, he is missed..really tragic..what a loss..for him firstly...and for us.
Beautiful singer/musician...great emotional expressiveness in every, consonant..every syllable he sang. ..."He had a style"..as the old soul song said.
