  • I was there, I worked just a few blocks away at the time. I remember being blown away by just how talented this guy was. So glad I got to see him play.

  • @ricktucket0422 I envy you !!! I really love Benjamin . I saw him once in my life , but I was very young . You are so lucky !!!

  • un idolo incomparable grande benji

  • I miss you Ben :(

  • @ cep32101 The Cars would have not been a band if Ric didn't write all those great songs. RIP Ben!

  • salee320 You see Ben look at you at 1:55 for a glimpse? On another note, I really do hope you are able to post the rest of your videos from the lost files on your computer. Many thousands of fans would be appreciative of your "treasure". Thanks!

  • Bravo Benjamin Orr RIP †

  • I always go back and listen to the Cars. One of my favorite bands of all time. You can't really have one favorite band because there are so many and there is so much good music.O.K. before I start sounding gay,I just wanted to say that Benjamin Orr reminds me of the actor Rutger Hauer.

  • age does nothing to diminish this man's voice or sex appeal. his comment at the announcement shows he was funny and humble, too. how i wish he were still around making music.

  • Benjamin sounds perfect, but he needed the rest of the Cars.

  • If I'm the bassist in this performance I'm sweating every note with ben next to me given ben was a bassist etc lol

  • Bravo! Beautiful !

  • Even in raw live, acoustic sound, this guy's sound is so profoundly incredible..amazing singer. rest in Peace Benjamin!

  • the best lookin rocker with the best voice! thanks ben orr !! rest in peace for ever. hope to see you again!

  • Res in peace benjamin, you were one of the good ones!

  • one of my favorite bands in the late 70's when i was a pup-now i like them more!! every song ben sang was great he had a great rock voice!!!

  • Benjamin Orr... Gone but not forgotten. Rest easy my friend... And we will keep spinning your awesome music that you left for us. Your place will never be taken and your fans sorely miss your presence. 11 years ago today... A sad day in rock history.... A sad day I will never forget...R.I.P.

  • Stil hot, and the most cutest smile!! RIP Ben xx

  • A local Radio station WBOS had free lunchtime concerts inside South Station in downtown Boston. The acoustics were great. I saw many many sold out headliners the day after sellout performances in Boston and Providence. The concerts were low key 30-45 minute sets. There were about 30-40 folding chairs in the area. I wish the still held them there.

  • co ten czas robi z ludzi

  • Ben was a great singer !!! I love him . Rest In Peace Benjamin .

  • One of the great songs written. Got me thru an addition in 1986. god bless you Ben !!

  • The Cars would've went NOWHERE without this man.

  • @cep32101 You are right !!!!!! RIP Benjamin .

  • @cep32101

Not true. They are all very talented.

  • @cep32101 Yeah, and The Who would've been nothing without Roger Daltrey & Led Zepplin would've gone nowhere without Robert Plant.

  • @cep32101 MAN GIVES U PEACE AND LOVE IN UR HEART MAKE YOU FEEL VERY GOOD BOBABAILEY

  • @cep32101 Yeah they definitely needed Benjamin Orr, He had the style, the voice, charm , he had everything.

  • Rest In Peace Benjamin " See you in Paradise on Earth "

  • Ben Orr was Czech American. Notice the facial structure, piercing eyes, elevated eyelids and domineering jawbone. I studied anthropology and am convinced that people of white European heritage are superior in looks and intelligence and yes, that's coming from me, a Latino! LOL

  • @hectorsalinasisback I have always loved the Czech jaw line!

  • @hectorsalinasisback I have always loved the Czech jaw line!

  • What a Talent and Tragic Loss- He looks remarkably Like Freddie Mercury or is it me?

  • Ben couldn't help that he always looked soo wonderful, and hey, we ALL change. He had a kind heart and was strong through a terrible illness...so let's all remember these things.

  • Missing you Ben.

  • lookin a little hefty there, ben

  • @theotherguy245689 not a nice comment considering he was positively skeletal in his last interview...I'd rather have him back the way he was here any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I know I'm not alone.

  • @hazeltyler89 no offense man, im just sayin it as a statement. i like ben as much as you do, its just i know right before he got sick, he kinda let himself go. but i do think he looks better here then he does as just skin and bones

  • @theotherguy245689 no offence taken on my part, lol...I took it on Ben's....We could all take better care of ourselves. Ben's life was cut short by a devastating disease that we've all been touched by in one way or another...I just don't understand why it seemed necessary to point out he looked like most other 40ish year olds in NA is all. He didn't deserve the hand he was dealt, but in any case, I can see the blessings born out of it. Cheers.

  • @hazeltyler89 I completely agree !!!! RIP Ben.

  • thank's for loading this for all of us to enjoy. • Why God took Ben 2 soon blows my mind .....

Life is not FAIR ...I know that ...... I hear Ric is playing again ... I hope the Cars re-form and tour again ... They belong in the RR Hall of fame !!!

  • @oceans20113 God didn't kill Ben and take him, sickness did, as God is a kind and loving being, RIP means until Jesus comes back to battle Satan to regain control of the earth, of life, may you REST IN PEACE until I come back and lift you up out of the grave and give you life again in a new world and unaging, sickness free world. Life without end.

  • @MuffettG100 Are you 8 years old? Sorry, there is no God... or fairy tales or the Easter Bunny....

Cancer is a disease that kills people... nothing personal. Life without end you say?? Ever hear that old saying... "If it sound too good to be true..."

  • @augustmoon0004 .... You really do not have to get nasty. I am well over 8 years old. You have apparently never read the Bible or your family is not any kind of Spiritual people and it rubbed off on you. You are one of these people who does what they want and when they want, and it's usually on the wrong side of God;s given word, such as in, your one of Satan's followers. Enough said as you are a "Sinner" obviously.....!! I have nothing to do with these kinds of people...

  • @MuffettG100 You mean the bible that was written by men? Imagine you were born on a deserted island with no outside influence, in a million years you will never come up with the name Jesus as your God, yet if you're intelligent and you use your mind you will be able to discover mathematics, biology, science, evolution, etc.. Yes, for those who can't find all the answers (like those people thousands of years ago) you may invent a God to explain what you can't, but you'd never call it Jesus.

  • @augustmoon0004 Like so many things Scientists find these days they cannot explain and so therefore they use "Theory" to hide behind what they cannot explain. we'd be better off as a human species to accept the fact that certain aspects to our existence cannot be known or quantified or measured much less understood. You can't limit human existence and experience to freakin scientific theory (which there is more scientific theory than fact) which makes them the same as religious. Truth

  • @augustmoon0004 , youre really inappropriate here. Save your bigotry for another video. You have anger issues. Stop your hatred !

  • @salee320 10 years this October 3rd. :(

  • To morrendo de vontade de te agarrar

Não sei quanto tempo mais vou suportar

Mas pra gente se encontrar ninguém pode saber

Já pensei e sei oque devo fazer

  • Who is this cast of characters playing behind Orr? I don't approve

  • @salee320 October 3

  • What year did Ben Die?

  • If I had known he was playing all over the east coast, I would have gone to see him also..LOTS! Sadly, I didn't though and he was my ultimate favorite of anyone for a long time in The Cars days...I would do practically anything to see him...or whatever. Kills me that I missed out on his shows throughout the 90's.

Missing you and loving you always Benjamin.

  • Two years before i met Benjamin Orr.

  • A Beantown Radio Station had an afternoon concert series a South Station in the '90s. I saw several of the shows....great setting, albeit the transient crowd. Ben was an amazing talent & is profoundly missed. RIP

  • He still sang like an angel. I miss him very much. (So sad he wasn't taking care of himself).

  • Red Line, Alewife ... South Station, Boston. Took the Green Line to/from Back Bay for three years ... know the "T" all too well. Love ya, miss ya Ben! Oh, hey, thanks for posting this video -- it was terrific! What a voice!

  • He seemed so down to earth, genuine and from what I understand kind to everyone he met, no sign of arrogance considering he was drueled over by women all the time.

  • I almost like this version better than the original. The instrumentals were changed around a little bit for the better, lovely, georgeous song. Ben always owned the stage whomever he was with. Miss him so but thanks to You Tube he'll always be with us in our own homes, huh?

  • R.I.P

  • he had the same cancer my great grandma,

  • Beautiful a classic song, I remember old time.God bled you.

  • a great song - poor Benjamin ... had a so nice voice ....

  • I just can't believe he is dead!!!!!!!!!

  • Were ORRITES baby!

  • I saw the Cars in Philadelphia in the early 80's. Wish I still had the T shirt that I bought there, had a tire tread on it. What a fun night that I'll always remember. Someone threw their hat on stage, Ben picked it up, read it and kept it, wonder what it said on the front. Blew me away when they played Moving in Stereo, sounded like flying saucers were buzzing the room from one side to the other, so COOL !

  • @MarkMartin1 You're a lucky man

  • I wish I could see him live . I am so sad to miss this opportunity. I didn't hear much about him until after his passing. He's such a talented singer other than a well known bass player for the Cars. For many of you who have seen him before his fatal illness, consider yourselves lucky. I still have vocal flashbacks of his most popular song "Stay the Night".

  • Not too many artists sound this good live as Orr does, wish i could have made this show

  • SUCH a fantastic song! Thanks for the post!

  • Why are they playing a station in Boston?

  • After the Cars, when Benjamin was keeping his music alive, he was all over the east coast in small venues....man, if I had known that, I would have become an "Orrhead". How I would have loved to see him in person.

  • I got a chance to see him at Playoffs in Weymouth,MA and it was unbelievable.I stood right in front of my hero...

  • @salee320 Yes. One option would be to get in touch with someone related to Ben and pose as a businessman interested in releasing a new compilation or box set called "The Ben Orr Experience." I know that he has a son named Benjamin Orr. His son might know who inherited the unreleased master recordings, or at least be able to steer us in the right direction. You have to be confident and creative, otherwise nobody will take you seriously and nothing will be done to release this fantastic music.

  • This song came out when I was in highschool, everyone loved it! it hit home with lots of people, young and old.

  • @jrr2468 so true

  • a gentle voice - beautiful for this song

  • wonderful man. this song is so sweet and he does it really great here.

  • I love how in the beginning everyone gets all excited when they hear the beginning of Drive. :)

  • what a LUV......

  • Spectacular performance! I just wish the audio was better. This sounds like one of the best live performances of this song. It is a shame about Ben dying. He was such a great musician and singer :( Ben will be missed as well as the Cars in their original line-up.

  • Just a gorgeous song. You're missed Ben.

  • Sweet...

  • thanks to those who have posted

  • I have similar problem. I was born in 1982 and I have never seen him and The Cars live. I feel sorry for that. My died on Monday and I was at him. RIP daddy.

  • This song is so timeless. i remember when it was hit back when i was an elementary student, when the only "blues" i knew was when it was time to go to school.(I HATED SCHOOL). This song would play when i was on my way to school, and Mr. Orr played this song so melancholy, a real soundtrack to my ride to school! I so regret not seeing him live in the nineties. i guess you live and learn. He just seems like such a cool dude. i wish i could have told him in person how much his music meant to me.

  • Ben Orr... "Drive" -- spectacular! Thank you so very much for posting this video. Into "favorites" for many more viewings of this treasured musician.

  • Sometimes his music.... or just the way he sings it.... or remembering how short life is... makes me so sad......but here I am watching & listening again...still. Whitewitch8 is SUCH A FAN. Thank you Benjamin.... :)

  • What a wonderful performance!

  • Awesome!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Thanks a lot,, I guess that this is one of the best videos in youtube.... Terrific...

  • Wow...that's saying a lot on behalf of Mr. Orr and his magic...seeing how there's a couple million videos out there....but of course, I'd have to agree. Will never forget him...

  • Oh god how I loved Ben....a great musician and singer...a very talented man...taken away much too soon. Gone but never forgotten....we still love you Ben. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • GTM: man, you're just so welcome... and thank you for watching and commenting...

  • Sadly, pancreatic Cancer. Ben was Brilliant, a kind soul & Gifted. Miss you much Ben RIP!

I saw several WBOS concerts at South station in the early '90s. Very nostalgic & a fun environment for a show. Squeeze was one of my favorites.

  • I just found out that his guitarist (the big guy can't remember his name) died about 4 years after Ben...anyone know his name? He was with Ben in July 1998 when they played here in Tarentum PA and he and Ben were both fantastic!

  • Hey Johnny: Yeah, that's John Kalishes a real close buddy of Ben's for many years who he sometimes introduced as "John Mississippi blind driveway with sprinkles" and I always wanted to know more about those zany references. Gotta love those power chords of his that really nailed down a song. I also heard Ben say on occasion that he "raised him from a puppy". I'll bet those two had some laughs, great times, and great music together.

  • What did he die from?

  • I will always luv watching this and all his solo stuff!!!! RIP Benjamin.

  • thanks so much for posting

it's great getting this live solo stuff from

    Benny

  • Thank you for posting this. Another great song sung by a wonderfully talented musician. The world is poorer for your departure Ben. RIP

  • @jourene1 ..yeah, he is missed..really tragic..what a loss..for him firstly...and for us.
