I'm trying to find a copy of July 1978 Model Railroader magazine where the article was published so I can upload it. The amount of suction is controlled by a couple holes in the tube and covering them with your fingers, or by simply tilting the suction head on the rails.
or can you just explain how it works what do you suck in on one hose and then it makes a vacuum in the jar and when u run the other end over the ballast it is drown up into the jar ...you can send ur comments to my e mail morettibrian @yahoo.com

Have you been able to find a PDF or reasonable description with pictures of the "Ballast Machine"? It looks like a real killer of a tool. Any help would be appreciated!
@dalemaxx12 hello I found the model railroader mag on e bay I am going to make the ballast vacuum and test it if it works I will be selling them on e bay if you want one e mail me at fffhellcat@hotmail.com ...brian
All, I sincerely apologize for not responding to the inquiries. I must have missed them somehow. I lost the PDF with the article in a hard drive crash. I will try and get another. I've been using this thing for over 30 years and it works GREAT!!! No trick photography. I have tried unsuccessfully to get the attention of some of the scenery manufacturers to market something like this. I would think it would be a winner.
what the hell? that took seconds to do, and its much neater then pouring it and brushing... please email me the "how to" on getting a device like that.
@grallionsstar The vacuum is so soft it only draws the top layer of ballast ,I am going to be making this item and if you want more info e mail me at fffhellcat@hotmail.com

Hope you can find the file. (even just a hi-rez screenshot from the video would help) 480P is too blocky to see the text.

I was transfixed by this - like watching magic happen, it was. Great job. Is it a Venturi vacuum run from your airbrush may I ask?
