  • 0:45 not a turbo but v8

  • 2:50 3.5 Cosworth DFZ non turbo. 1987 as allowed NA engines in the Jim Clark cup

  • 1:25 is a 3.5 Cosworth DFZ non turbo

  • 0:10 is a 3.5 Judd CV V8 not a turbo engine

  • mute button = useful shit

  • the Turbo are banned by the FIA its because the power cranked up too much and in order to minimum the danger by the using of Turbo, they are banned and F1 cars change to N/A engine again,,,,,,,,but in my point of view opinion, F1 cars these day are really bored compare to the F1 turbo engine

  • thanks! great pictures of a mind-blowing era

  • it's extremely scary to drive these monsters. Those drivers were so brave.

  • Wow, a slide-show.

  • you dont see a 5bar boost gauge in most cars!

  • ..or slideshow

  • Fitting music somehow. Nice video :)

  • 88 was the end of the turbo era the mp4/4 produced 1200hp

  • are you shure is 1987? I gess is 1988

  • @zumbadorrallys could be. i took pictures in hockenheim in 87 and 88. the williams with the v8 engine is from 88. think there are from 87 and 88.

  • @Juggernautishere

Dr. Paul Rosche of BMW M division said that they used some fuel additive Germany had developed during WW2, when they were short on high octance fuel. Using this they could charge 5,6 bars of boost and they saw over 1400hp on the dyno. It only went that high and the engine exceeded this, so it may have been 1420,1450 or 1500hp.

If they ever qualified a car with thos 1400hp I don't know, but the dyno 1400+ was certainly real.

  • Why did they get rid of turbos? was it too fast and too much power for competition? or just too easy to turn up the power while in the middle of racing

  • @makaveli200369 They were too powerful and the speed was too high for FIA so they said they are dangerous and banned them.

  • Stefan, Nice dude. End of one turbo era, new one looming. Great shots

  • Stefan big thumbs up mate. They're on their way back. Great pics. [---{o}-[

  • BMW power!

  • Terrific slide show! Is there an online gallery where I can find the high-res versions of these photos? The Turbo Era is my favorite period in F1 history and I would love to add them to my collection.

  • @Tipperracinghonda

Agreed that F1 was better to watch back in the day but can't agree with your comment on engineering skills.

Some of the most talented and capable engineers on the planet work in F1 now, it's not their fault that politics and money rule the sport now ! WE WANT TURBO'S AND GROUND EFFECT BACK !!!!

  • so schön

  • Stefan, nice photographs. Corel PaintShop Photo Pro does a good job of removing Moiré (noise) or dust as you call them.

  • I think it is time now to clean all the pictures and scan them again. i wanted to avoid the risk of demaging them but digitaly they might live even longer. In the next days i upload new videos. The aquasoft-logo is because aquasoft is the only software that makes HD1080-diashows.

  • love this

  • power is nothing without control

  • @markandrach in the 1980's the driver supplied the control, nowadays drivers rely too much on their cars to go fast. I'm not saying todays f1 drivers don't have extreme skills, but they are nowhere close to the ability of some of the drivers of the 80's/ early 90's Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Gilles Villeneuve, Nelson Piquet, and Michael Schumacher.

  • @Mito2009 Schumacher took that advantange having early F1 skills + experience and simply dominate nowadays F1 with that skills.

  • all the teams should ditch bernie and start their own racing with their own rules!!!

  • and what about how small in capacity these engines were

  • Monza 1986 Qaulifying BMW 5.5 bar boost - estimated around 1300BHP (there were no dynos that could measure that much at the time)

Honda became the more driveable and powerful race engine - if you call a 1000 +BHP nuclear explosion at the rear wheel 'driveable'......

  • Them were REAL engines. Think that if memory serves correctly, it was reckoned that the Bennetton BMW 4 pot was the most powerful of the lot, pre 'pop off' valves etc. Monza 1986 Berger saw a flash 5.5 bar reading during qualifying which they estimated (as there were no dynos capable of measuring it) over 1300BHP... Honda developed more powerful RACE engines, with more driveability. If you can call a nuclear explosion at the rear wheels 'driveable'

  • THIS IS FORMULA... FUCK YOU BERNIE !!!

  • i thought honda was more powerfull there was talk of well over 1500 bhp for qualifing..great racing era nice pics,,F1 now is boring

  • 1:38 ftw?

  • Few enthusiasts with good motivations made this exciting F1 era unlike nowadays dancing monkeys motivated by millions $.

  • @zabijaq123 You summed it up beautifully, money/greed rules almost everything now, media, music, television, sports, politics. I guess in a way it's always been that way, it's just now a lot more blatant and in your face.

  • Schöne Impressionen aus einer leider längst vergangenen Zeit. Danke !
