It seems like a lot of gospel music has somewhat of a secular sound these days...with hip-hop, pop, rock and jazz influences. The sound is one thing, but the message of the gospel is what is supposed to stand out the most.
Its so sad that Christian artists are being deceived. Its been along time in the making. What artists don't realize is that in order to be a light, you have to shine. Darkness cannot expel darkness. If you're looking for something in a dark room, what do you do? Turn off your flashlight or turn it up? What secular Christians don't realize is they're not saving anybody by looking like the world. I think what they're really trying to save is themselves from the shame brought about by the cross.

There is nothing wrong with secular unless there is "bad things" in it. If you are talking about everyday life then there is no problem with secular. Not all secular is bad. If the music helps people to get over something hard times that happened in there life then it is okay. Singing Alicia Keys in the church, the pastor even changed it up to give god the glory in that song. Another thing. Gospel music ripped some of secular music and changed to fit the Gospel genre.

I love to hear her sing gospel. I was hoping she'd come out with a new gospel recording. Guess that won't be happening any time soon. This is sad news for me. Secular music is very youth and sex driven. I'm not sure how she plans to fit into that. I"m going to hold out hope that she does another gospel album if or when this doesn't take off.

You're misinterpreting John 12:32. Jesus was talking about being crucified, not magnified. According to context, and correct me if I'm wrong, that scriptures is simply saying that if Jesus was crucified ("...lifted up from the earth..."), it would do nothing but draw the world to him. Peace...

Its so sad that Christian artists are being deceived. Its been along time in the making. What artists don't realize is that in order to be a light, you have to shine. Darkness cannot expel darkness. If you're looking for something in a dark room, what do you do? Turn off your flashlight or turn it up? What secular Christians don't realize is they're not saving anybody by looking like the world. This is amazing. I'm just seeing this. I'm a praise/worship leader. Grew up in a holiness church. Not talking denomination, I'm talking STANCE. There is nothing wrong with secular unless there is "bad things" in it. If you are talking about everyday life then there is no problem with secular. Not all secular is bad. If the music helps people to get over something hard times that happened in there life then it is okay. Singing Alicia Keys in the church, the pastor even changed it up to give god the glory in that song. Another thing. Gospel music ripped some of secular music and changed to fit the Gospel genre.

Question, as it comes to the description, when did Kim Burrell sin? What's wrong with a reality show? And we say the blood "reaches to the highest mountain and flows to the lowest valley." Is there not anywhere that God can go? She never sang a secular album and if she did so what? God can still get the glory! After all, the people who became the ancestors of African-Americans, Jamaicans, Haitians,etc. came from diverse cultures. Some were Muslims, others belived in ancestor worship, abstract animism,etc. None of these ancestors followed Judaism as a religion, that I know of. If you can give me a source that quotes an African slave praising YHWH or Jehovah, then I'll gladly conceed the point.

I love to hear her sing gospel. I was hoping she'd come out with a new gospel recording. Guess that won't be happening any time soon. This is sad news for me. Secular music is very youth and sex driven. I'm not sure how she plans to fit into that. I"m going to hold out hope that she does another gospel album if or when this doesn't take off.
