  • Brickwalling is such a shame, thats why there are motherfucking volume controls!

  • death metal drummers are playing faster and faster =

death metal drummers are hitting lighter and lighter =

death metal drummers need mega compression to make them sound like they have balls.

    John Bonham RIP

    Cozy Powell RIP

Dont forget what True Heavy is

    It comes from the street.

  • @zealberg Listen to Derek Roddy and George Kolias. They hit damn hard.

  • Fleshgod Apocalypse's debut is really interesting and promising, but fuck me if you can tell what's going on half of the time. So much static and compression. Everything is a mass of sound.

  • Hahaha, I admit, I never thought Deathmetal of all things was affected by that. Good to know :-D

  • @FoxGhost7 metal is just pop music disguised as an alternative musical genre. it isn't. it's all major record label produced bullshit.

  • too bad necrophagist is dead...

  • @MetalliDeth1223 rumors say new album in 2012

  • Death Metal is already loud and in your face...no need for them to brickwall this type of music. They must want people with an ear for good music to not listen to it apparently.

  • No Veil of Maya NOOO!!! I thought you were different DX

  • Shit like this is why I'm selling all my cd's and going to vinyl.

  • @JoeyDrunko

Death magnteic is also brickwalled on vinyl.. And its clipping.. Believe me I own a copy

  • @MrDemilord Not true. Sure, the vinyls of super-compressed albums don't have as much depth as they could, but I've seen wave forms of Death Magnetic on vinyl, and while not as good as the GH3 mix, it is better.

Besides, I found out how to restore compressed audio. Despite popular belief, all the needed data is still there, it is just compressed. By pinpointing certain frequencies and remixing them using different tracks, you get dynamic range back. It really works.

  • @JoeyDrunko

Still the GH3 is still far superiour because the master used wasnt brickwalled so all the original dynamics are present

  • @JoeyDrunko Digital mastering means what's on the CD is what's on the vinyls. It's rare for producers to give enough of a shit to make two different masters nowadays. Listen to Death Magnetic, Black Gives Way to Blue, Audioslave... same thing.

  • whats kills me is that metal music is already "loud" and it does not really need to compete with the next pop song on the radio...it doesn't need to stick out, so why are all these fuckin producers brick walling these recordings? who's to blame the artists taste or the producer?

  • I love all of the bands and songs used as an example, but it is obvious that Necrophagist cares the most about dynamic production.

  • omg...

  • im listening to this on my studio speakers and i hear cracking is that from the brick-wall compression?

  • @metalcorevocals Sure is, my Ultrasone headphones are very sensitive to it, on YT brickwalled songs have a shimmer over them, and sometime distort so badly that I can't hear anything but the vocals(an extreme example). Unfortunatly half my music collection suffers from the loudness war :( . You can clearly here a cut-off on vocals and drums on those songs.

  • @Troothforc That sucks i dont understand why anyone would want to do that to music.

  • Oh my god! That Necrophagist stuff sounds SO MUCH BETTER!!! My band is recording at the moment. No brickwalling our stuff, thats for sure!

  • bad quality doesn´t means bad songs!

  • It is not just heavy metal but rap music also.

Blame the industry who knows nothing.

I bet the reason is the sound recording studio artists were hired by their daddy.

So now this new hired son/daughter got all that new hire swagger going on mentality "IM DA BEST IM DA BEST!" I would like to see people point fingers now!! WHo are these sound killer creeps?!!?

  • fucking sellos discograficos

  • Opeth's new album should sound good however, because Steven Wilson is mixing it.

  • @BinaryPill He has mixed a lot of their other albums but they usually end up from 6-7 in regards to dynamic range. He'd have to *master* them, not just mix them.

  • @BinaryPill It does, but it's not death metal.

  • Death metal was alot better in the early 90s imo, but this shit isn't helping at all. I just did a test on a Belphegor album Blood Magick Necromance and was shocked when I saw the wav files. Horrible. Who approves this shit, seriously??

  • Compare vinyls to CD. You get more rasping but better dynamics. Look at the replay gain if you play vinyl rips. RG on metal cds are like -10 to -11 decibels. completely brickwallen. Vinyl rips are usually from 0 to -5 RG.

  • I used to love death metal music but I can hardly listen to it anymore since I've ruined my hearing. Now I only listen to albums released pre 1992 with high dynamic range. Listening to any loud music or radio gives me headache and I keep hearing a beep louder and louder after listening for longer times. I believe the brickwalled music does more damage to your hearing that listening to loud music. I can listen to Led Zeppelin vinyls on max volume without trouble. The Loudness war ruined my ears.

  • Appreciating the effort, but that non-clipped stuff is still compressed and limited quite a lot. It's basically within 1dB all the way across, almost all of the time. It's probably a start for the genre I would hope, but there's a LONG way to go.

  • Thanks. I've been following this since the Death Magnetic scandal with Guitar hero.

Its amazing how much a night and day difference non clipped albums make if you just turned the knob up.

  • Really well done. Thanks for taking the time to do this and fighting the good fight.
