  • 240p we meet again..

  • I think this was my first J4L video, kind of miss these old style of reviews :c

  • 0:36 Maybe because you're a fucking pussy.. nig ಠ_ಠ

  • John is hot!! :)

  • @001001110110 yeah he is

  • Do the keys light up?

  • Thaht looks so unconfortable.

  • Aluminium solid? You want a steel chassis for a 'solid' keyboard.

Mechanical keyboards, still the best option for a typist (or anyone using a keyboard for 6+ hours a day).

"It clicks?" Any keyboard clicks it you mash it hard enough.

This isn't a review. It's a product overview from a bias point of view. No subjective testing, comparisons or criticism.

Aw well. Nice video I guess. 2/5.

  • @3Z3K13L08 Just put it down to the difference between a normal person and apple fanboy. If it has the apple logo located anywhere on any part of anything, your gonna have all the apple minions rush out to the apple store to buy one. Regardless of whether it works or not. And yeah, the click you hear is just the key bottoming out, which all keyboards can do. >.>

  • the best keyboard, i own the same :)

  • WOW! It's amazing how much your videos improved over the years! I mean... I'm not saying that this video is bad... but, I mean... You get the point. Right? :) Well done!

  • Old School!

  • How long's the cable?

  • with the included extender about the length of the ipod cable plus a quarter

  • Wow, Jon, you're reviews have really come on in leaps and bounds! Nice work. It's odd looking back at your old stuff comparing it to the current stuff and there's a huge difference.

  • but yet he is stil good even when he was starting out

  • wats drivers

  • is there a Alt and Ctrl button?

  • Yes. However, Alt is renamed as "Option".

  • Yes, but they call "Alt" "Option" in OS X, but the newer keyboards refer to it as "Alt" too due to them now being able to run Windows natively since the Intel switch.

  • yes

  • @phamiey01 There is a Alt & Ctrl Botton =)

  • @phamiey01

    Yes

  • cool review ^^ your sxc ;D

  • ive had this ketbord for like 2 yrs or so... prolly like 1 yr lol,

but i love it it is like so easy to handle :D

  • been using this keyboard for a year now on windows and it is still running strong. No broken keys no nothing. Very sturdy keyboard for $50 plus my favorite. There is a new wired version out that looks exactly like the wireless ketboard.

  • how dyo get it to work on windows mate?

  • just plug it in.. Windows just reads it as a usb keyboard. Works like any other.

  • running this on a G4 emac :D

  • i bought this a week ago and ididnt have to install anything

  • It's easier to carry around (like in a bag or something like that) when it's flat. Usb's that are closer to you are nice to have. You don't have to reach all the way to your computer. All of it's function buttons makes it very good. You can set whatever shortcuts with them (the ultra thin logitech doesn't have 19 f keys). I can't explain it well, but it is much easier to type on. It feels really nice compared to a normal keyboard. You shouldn't put it down unless you have tried it yourself.

  • It's flat for more comfort, this may sound odd but it really does feel more comfortable. It's thin for portable use. The USB ports are REALLY convenient, you can plug your mouse into them and you don't to bend down and reach around for ports on the computer. This keyboard feels more solid then my previous DELL one. THe alluminium structure is for design and quality. Apple products go all out for quality and you feel like you are typing on something mega powerful with this keyboard.

  • 1 word, elegant : )

  • and another BTW,

all keyboards have spacing between the buttons.

the only difference is in the height of the buttons.

it costs 49 bucks, to get a keyboard with no special functions?

pls tell me what makes this keyboard special.

lets for example compare it to the logitech ultra flat keyboard.

it has the same buttons, its cheaper (costs 18 bucks) and requires no drivers.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY THIS MAC KEYBOARD?

  • btw, in the vid you/he says that he types the wrong keys on a regular keyboard.

hmm, maybe your motorial skills aren't that good or you should learn how to type.

as allready for 15 years and longer people can type blindly without mistakes.

If you cant properly work with a keyboard then don't do reviews about them?

  • this thing is the worst keyboard ever made. it used to be that apple made outstanding keyboards, like the Apple Extended Keyboard II with Alps mechanical keyswitches. now, this aluminum abortion with horrible RSI-inducing short key travel and wrist angle, no tactile feedback whatsoever except the key bottoming all the way out on its shallow, cheap rubber sheet...

for $50, you could have a premium quality keyboard with Alps or Cherry switches, type faster, and not risk injuring yourself.

  • Because he has(wants) thin hair, or a bad hair due?

  • Why are you wearing a cap indoors..?

  • great video jon is it compatible with a pc windows xp? from what i hear(read) it is compatible and i think you own a thanks to "eckofish" that is a user name and he has recomended you on his videos he says your videos are fantastic so i think you ow him a thankyou(unsure if you are aware of this). and as usal gret video keep making them!.

  • I prefer the old keyboard better. With that thin keyboard, I keep missing some letter when I type it. That keyboard just doesn't work for me

  • bought the keyboard today, it's lovely! my pc recognised it straight away what was good. The keyboard is very strong as it's metal, lovely keyboard overall, 5/5.

  • I got it today at my countries first ever apple store lol The experience of the apple store is crazy they all clap you as you walk in and talk to you not even about macs half the time lol It works like it should with a pc, installed right away! I always liked laptop keyboards and wanted one for the pc, this is exactly what i was looking for!

  • will this keyboard work on any PC and is it a good keyboard to use for long tomes

    message me back plz

  • yes the wired version will.. connect with usb and it will work

  • no I do NOT think so. There's no windows-logo button and other things... would be weird to use a apple keyboard to windows, wouldn't even work. It's like connecting a windows keyboard to mac. That would never work. No cmd.

  • Sure it does work on a computer but the hotkeys won't work on windows for example alt + L won't get you an @ like on mac osx, you have to press ctrl, alt and Q for the => @ (on german layout)

  • Hey Jon, you have probably been asked this before, but does this keyboard work with Panther? (10.3.9)

  • Do you think I should get the iskin cover protector for it ? Does it get dirty easily?

  • yeah the white keys get dirty but its really easy to clean.

just get the mr clean magic eraser and wet it then ring out the sponge real good then just scrub lightly. looks brand new after one cleaning.

  • yea

  • it WAS bending you mean.

  • The A key on my current keyboard is hard to push for some reason.

  • does your R key get stuck? Pressing the R key on my keyboard yields nothing, so I have to push down hard on the key. Personally, I like my Apple PRO keyboard better.

  • If you are right handed and use a graphics tablet you will want a wireless keyboard because the extra length makes you have to move your keyboard to the left leaving you typing at a angle and its just plain awkward

  • my volume dosent work how can i fic that so all the buttons work

  • would this work on a pc?

  • yeah it works just like any regular pc keyboard

    just some keys are different

and if you want things like print screen

you can download a program called keytweak and in half tech mode you can change the functions of the keys to do what you want =]

  • Nice review. I bought one of these a few months ago and love it. I would recommend this keyboard to everyone!

  • Been using the new aluminum keyboard for 3 months. Best keyboard EVER. So easy to type on. It doesn't have those huge and thick buttons like most desktops.

  • The keys look like they're separated far apart from eachother. Are they, in comparrison to most other keyboards?

  • I love the keyboard, i just don't understand why they removed half of it for the wireless version :S. Despite that, i'm getting wireless xD

  • dude could you please direct me to them drivers.

  • its a kickass product lol

    9/10

  • nice review made.. one thing thou just got mine and i havent install any drivers to get it working in XP, just plug in. probably will need some apple software of course for media keys. To the guy that said no arrow keys.. it HAD arrow keys like normal keyboard. being a hardcore gamer this keyboard works great i was top of the leaderboard on CoD4. on a final note.. It feels like silk typing ;)

  • john, does the wireless mouse work on a PC as well?

  • as long as it has bluetooth it should

  • sorry but it doesn't in fact. If you check the apple website it says the wired works with windows but wireless does not. It's probably because of the differences between how windows and mac handle bluetooth. You also probably need a Mac OS software update to run the bluetooth mouse and windows can't get that since it's just that way. Sorry

  • CHRIST, th wireless keyboard has NO ARROWS??? tht is vry bad, nice review, i am gunna get 1 wiv my mac mini at xmas, WOOOP only 48 days

  • It has, but small and stacked together.

  • ohhh okay cheers

  • It does have arrows. It is basically all the keys on a MacBook.

  • yh i wud get th wireless 1 BUT it dont hav any USB ports on it so yh thnanks 4 th info

  • I'm wondering why they changed the 'Apple' key for a 'command' key. I know it does the same thing, ...it just seems odd for Apple to drop their name off that key after so long.

  • Hey does this keyboard work with windows xp without ANY drivers? I dont care about extra function keys/macro keys, just want the basic functionality of a 104-pc-keyboard.

  • yup will work with xp, no problems or drivers.

  • ure so cute

  • The new apple keyboards are great for kids but for serious typists its a joke. My Mom types 120 words per minute and cannot even use the new keyboard. Sorry. Thats just my opinion.

  • hey, jon. is the new keyboard backlit?

  • nope

  • the new keyboard IS damn sweet. I got to try it at a local Future Shop and I was won over in 30 seconds flat, lol. it looks drop dead sexy and typing on it is a pure joy.

Worked right off the bat on my Toshiba laptop, no drivers needed. I'm currently using it on my 360, so I can vouch that it works there as well.

  • u use it on the 360? Thats good 2 know!!!

  • whoa, i ordered mine today, can't wait ;)

  • I'm writing it right now, it's awesome!

  • the keyboard is freakin sweet!

  • just so you guys know... the usb ports are pretty pointless. you can't hook up your ipod, camera, or flash drive (haven't tried a mouse yet). a message comes on saying that the usb ports don't have enough power...

  • I'm getting a MacBook Pro. Should I get one?

  • definitely

  • cool. now tell me why. convince me! (to spend $50.00)

  • i'm thinking of getting one, but only if i can keep it impeccably clean. can anyone tell me how easy it is to remove the keys and clean underneath them?

  • no need to remove the keys...since there is a gap between them, you can in/around/and underneath very easily.

  • man oh man, i tried out the new imac and keyboard today at the yorkdale apple store. At first i thought "god, that is an ugly computer"...But then when you actually see it in person, it is gorgeous. I have the macbook so i don't think i need it.

  • works with pc, cool

  • I just bought one and it feels great :)

  • Good review :)

    I'm buying one haha

  • Thanks for this review. I just picked up the keyboard about two hours ago from the Apple shop and it's an awesome buy. No issues whatsoever and definitely worth it.

  • Great vid. Thanks for the review. The new keyboard just doesn't offer enough travel on the keys for my liking. I also hate how they moved all the volume/eject buttons. Reminds me of a PC keyboard in that respect.

I just bought a new Apple Wireless Keyboard on Tuesday. It's the old style, which is great. Got it for $60 new at CompUSA. Definitely worth it.

  • can you power external devices like a hard drive or a flashdrive with the USB ports on the keyboard

  • HD no, flashdrives, it depends on how much power your device needs.

  • what is the normal power output for the keyboard

  • From Apple Website : Devices that draw high power from the USB connection, such as iPods, hard drives and some flash drives, can only be used with the new keyboard when it is attached to the aluminum iMac.

  • Definitely a GREAT keyboard! Along with a laptop stand and wireless Mighty Mouse I have a great workstation with my 15inch MacBook Pro!

  • not true..

there is no software update the option button doesn't function in boot camp

and usaully it takes about 1 day to learn and get pissed off at the new keyboard

  • it's a shame that the Apple-key is gone... :(

  • i went on the apple store website and it siad that they cant send it over to the uk because they are not out here yet

  • great vid man..

now that the F4 key is the equivalent of the old F9, how do I turn on the voice app? (used to be command+F4)

  • I heard the USB ports don't charge your devices, is that true?

  • ya thats true, when i found this out i wondered if the earlier model of keyboard had enough power to charge and ipod and run a wireless mouse and it didnt. It would have been a nice improvement but its not like the new ones dont charge and the old ones did. still sucks tho

  • awesome review, i knew they were solid and not breakable.

  • OMG LOL!!!!!!! So it actually does exist! I think it's cool, though maybe a bit too slim.

  • I have the same one, with the new iMac, i LOVE IT! , It's better than i thought.

  • hey Jon. great info. btw how much is the keyboard?

  • 50 bucks for the wired one

  • $29, not $50.

  • now it is 50, it used to be 29

  • Wow, I didn't notice they have raised up the price. I hope they still sell the old style keyboards though, I don't like the MacBook keyboards.

  • Thats cool! But the only issue is i wanted a wireless! But i like how it has 2 usb ports so im picking one of these..

  • I agree - this is one of the nicest keyboards I have ever used - the key action is identical to my macbook - that's obviously where they developed the technology from

  • Thanks, if they have it, let us know what you think of it...

  • Very nice! Thanks a lot for giving your thoughts. I'll be picking this up one day. I say screw the Bluetooth version. I'm usually a neat freak, but I need that number pad. I'm going to Best Buy tonight so I am hoping they have the new iMac and keyboard in so I can give them both a test run.

Good video! Keep up the great work.

  • I was a little skeptical on this keyboard at first seeing as I am not too big on the MacBook keyboard but something about it is just so damn attractive!!

  • that was fast

  • good to know ^^ thanks for the video

  • Good job. Keyboard looks really cool.
