This song is one of the best songs Dan Fogelberg ever did It has the sound that seem to be closest to his heart you can tell when it is real and close to the heart of someone this is my latter favorite Dan Fogelberg song it the best one of the last of his works to me.
Thinking and missing Dan on this day. Looked at my framed copy of his birthday announcement this a.m. and could only smile and give thanks for the legacy of music he left us.
Tonight is one of "those" nights where I just love to play this over and over! The words, his voice, the outstanding melody, his sincerity, the references to the sea and sailing, the longing for not being alone, the candle by the stairway, the lamp in the window..... and all the rest.... what a perfect and priceless song! Just priceless! Missing you Dan....
I have the same birthday as Dan Fogelberg 8,13,1961, He was so much to me the friend I never met in my life, His music healed me so many lonley night sas a young man, He is in my soul,
Excellent video...Happy Birthday Dan. No one will ever create lyrics and music as you have. "How I wish you were here" wish all the rest of us to celebrate your birthday. Miss ya!
There is never a day that goes by that I dont credit you for contributing so much to my life and helping me survive through the turmoil I faced. I miss you deeply.
what an amazing talent. i did not know that his drummer also passed away from colon cancer. i met all the guy's from bread in dallas at a record store meet and greet album signing. that was 1971. i was in high school here in ft worth,tx. they were all very down to earth and very nice people.
i never was lucky enough to see dan but, i was alway's a big fan. he will be missed.
gonzz100, i too was in h.s. in 71 in ft worth tx, dan has been my favorite musician since he began. i have seen dan in concert to many times to name each one. he truly was an amazing, talented, and loving man to be able to write the songs with so much emotion. each album was a gift to us, we never can repay.
If the question is about the drummer on this video, then it's Michael Botts. He died Dec. 9,2005 from colon cancer. Almost two years from Dan, which passed away Dec16,2007
this makes me all to sad. Dan's drummer, Mike Botts, who played with Dan for most of his concerts, passed away from colon cancer in Dec. 2005. Mike Botts was a founding member of the group Bread, from the 70's.
scrapper9474, Soundstage on PBS will be rebroadcasting the concert, on the weekend of Feb 21-Feb 24. YOU need to check your local PBS on the times and dates. I will need to TVO, because it's broadcast time is 2:00 am. I believe the concert was actually taped in 2003 in Chicago, with it airing in Sept.2004, months before he was diagnosed with his illness. Dan had no concerts scheduled after May 2004. I was blessed to see him twice, the last was 2002.
2005, the last year I saw him with my sister in concert in Columbus, Ohio. We were in the 7th row. It was fabulous. I had no idea it would be the last time.... still crying.
Thank you so much for these videos! I (somehow) never saw them before. They're great. I had finally gotten through watching him without crying, but not tonight...
GREAT NEWS!!! Dan's wife, Jean, is releasing a wonderful gift for all of us - a new song Dan wrote for her in 2005 will be available for download this month, plus a new CD is coming out later this year. Go to Dan's site to read Jean's new message - click on the News page. She is an angel.
Oh Yes- Thanks so must for the post- I'll have to check more often in case someoen disappears- I missed the 1982 videos someone put up- I had been checking for about every day the last few months- even before Dan passed, but had stopped for awhile, darn it. It does help to see all the love for Dan through his true fans. Thanks again.
Hey zoom - seeing all the love for Dan has been comforting for me too. Thanks for your response. And yeah, you never know when videos will just disappear, so just be sure to save any you like to your computer when you find them.
Thank you so much for this and Full Circle. Dan was the soundtrack to my life. I learned to play guitar listening to Dan's first two albums. The night he died I sat and played every song of his I knew, crying over the strings. My hands ached; my heart ached. Ever since his passing, I have tried again and again to play this song and I just can't get through it without dissolving into tears. "I miss you so madly...." Anyway, thanks again.
You're welcome pbrud. Dan's music was the soundtrack to my life too. His death has hit me hard. Sharing his music seems to help some. I guess it'll take some time, but I hope you'll be able to play this on guitar again sometime. I play guitar too, though not very well. I wish I could play this one. Take care.
A beautiful and sensitive song which was Dan's trademark. I've been a fan for many years and I don't think I've seen any other artist who can surpass him. He was so mutitalented, beginning with song writing, singing and performing. Why didn't he ever have the recognition he deserved? It seems to me he is getting more now since he left us. Quite sad isn't it?
Hey bonsaipal-I have to agree with you. In Rollingstone mag, there was just the usual 2 inch obit for Dan, but next to it was a half page article on Ike Turner!! I wanted to scream and burn the mag in protest. I still might. Maybe that's the way DF would've preferred it, but not us fans I guess. Thoughts anyone? Anyway, great post jfmm.
Hey becster -- I'd have to agree with your thoughts about Dan preferring it low key, since he seemed to treasure his privacy so, and kept a low profile through most of his career. I suppose he wouldn't care much what Rolling Stone had to say about his passing. His fans will remember him well though. To borrow Dan's quote about George Harrison - "There will never be another Dan".
Bonsaipal -- I agree, Dan's talent was largely overlooked and underrated. His guitar skills, in particular, were barely ever mentioned. It wasn't always that way though. It may be partly due to a few of his ballads getting all the attention. People who were turned off by those, may have become fans had they dug deeper. It's actually been a pleasant surprise to read the many writings recently, by those who did appreciate his gift. I think his talent was recognized by more people than it seemed
littlejrt - yeah, it's hard to accept he's gone. Feel like I've lost a friend. Even though we knew the possibility, I thought sure he'd pull through. I had such hope, but now the hope is gone, and I miss him terribly.
jfmm -- You're welcome. I'm glad I have it to share, only wish I could get the video quality to come out better. This and Full Circle were the only two he played from the new album. It's one of my favorites too, but I wish we had more. Would've loved to have seen him play Icarus on that tour.
Thanks again for making and sharing the beautiful Don't Lose Heart tribute video. I miss his presence terribly, but he still provides such comfort with his own words. Thanks.
this man has more intelligent and warm post than other person on youtube. the BEST! bar none
MISS HIM : ) I grieved when he passed...he was a true gift and still is
