  • Oh wow, the middle dancer is a dance teacher at my school. She was 16 at the time this show was going on and she's 58 now.

  • if they just up the tempo a little bit more, this would've been perfect. Still, great choreography. :]

  • What the sweet 'eff is this crap?

  • What year was this???

  • Is that ann rienking

  • That is some FIERCE choreography!

  • just PURE jubilation!

  • i saw two different versions with two of the girl here (not the black girl) but both are amazin

  • Lada doesn't come close to Donna in this one. Love her though lol :D

  • The three in front...Baayork Lee, Lada Edmund and Barbara Alston.

  • i feel so honored to be taking class from julane stites...the one in the middle. she is such an amazing individual. still the same person from the video, even in her 60s! my senior class this year learned this dance and performed it for her for a christmas gift. she laughed so hard and jumped up and did it with us! it was perfect!

  • Will we ever get any ORIGINAL entertainment like this again??? Geez, I hope so!!!

  • @FlyCaliGirl Hang in there...a special show is coming...I promise you...working on it now!

  • ok did the black lady kick that chick on purpose.

  • @animeslave20 No it's clear that chick was not watching her mark...

  • AH THE MAIN WOMAN I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THAT HAIR AT THE END!!!!!!!!

  • Nope..Michael Bennett choreographed this...the famous director/choreographer of A CHORUS LINE.

  • Yes a black woman!!!

  • What year is this?

  • Wow! She is really rocking it at the end there. Love it!

  • did Bob Fosse choreograph this? seems like he might have

  • @beyondfamous - Michael Bennett.

  • the girl in the green dress looks like "manny?" from degrassi.

  • awesome!!!!! anyone see the movie camp? they do a great tribute to this with their own little mix and it's really good. love the live band here, awesome

  • has anyone seen the donna mckechnie version :):):):)

  • @bertiejr I have and I like that one so much better she and the other 2 girls brought some more energy to it that has disappeared. I thought maybe Fosse had choreographed this but it wasn't seems very Fosse like. i love how dumb the song is though :)

  • @broadwayloverny10

yes. mckechnie is so much better it's ridiculous.

  • Teehee, this song was stuck in my head for the longest time. ♥

  • EMILY GILMORE!!! On the announcer's right side.

  • Julanne Stites in red

  • when was this one done?

  • The black chick looks like a drag queen!

  • Travisapablaza! hahaha I just dropped my mud!

  • so how did the revival's version compare here?

  • @crazyking1325 as a whole the choreography was amazing though this number let me down :/

  • thnks for ruin my christmas!! bitches !!!

  • Michael Bennett Choreography and Donna !

  • WHo is the woman in the green?

  • @elliosmi

Baeyork Lee. Original cast member, plus original "connie" in a chorus line. She was also the basis for the part.

  • @Bariterror Ok thats who i thought it was but i wasn't sure . Ty!

  • I knew it would great. was turkey lurkey time on piont? That the only thing i'm worried about.

  • @mikeymob1

On point?! No!!!! It's a [mock] rock number

  • ok, so - the young woman playing Miss De La Hoya looks like she's having the absolute time of her life.

  • I don't it reminiscent of 'Chicago' at all. I do find it more like 'Sweet Charity' than anything else. Great number, it is. If I only knew who was in original cast..so will go look. Indeed, it is nice to see something just silly, as one says, pre AIDS, 9/11. etc..but every generation has their silly and their serious. When this was playing, so was 'Hair', hardly silly. Post 9/11 we had 'Wicked'....good fun! AIDS is so integrated in theatre as theatre has lost so many people, actors-stage hands.

  • cant believe they r reviving this i cant wait

  • This is the kind of fun Austin Powers WISH it was.

  • "Wishes" it was, pardon the typo. 8^p

  • LMAO!!!!!!

  • OMG. Flipping fantastic. Ten times more entertaining than any theatrical drek that emerges today. Burt Bacharach is a genius. Those girls be gittin' DAY-OWN, no?

  • the revival is coming this year!!!!!!! they better not screw it up

  • Comment removed

  • Yup because they didn't have the same dance in the movie "camp"

  • It's actually very true to the original choreography, but however it isn't move for move exactly the same... I don't think they can completely jack someone's choreography like that.

  • Jarrod, the current Hot Honey Rag in the revival of Chicago is exactly the same as the original production

  • No it isn't. There are changes, look for Gwen and Chita doing it.

  • @646guy Not what I was referring to. Thanks anyway.

  • .....and yet they should. All that 60's stuff feels really good and refreshing today. Pre-AIDS, pre-9/11, pre-shitty economy.

  • @mikeymob1 - just saw the revival last night... it's fabulous - sean and kristen have great chemistry and the audience was rapturous... a really fun evening - hope it runs a long time... I want to see it again!!!

  • @ohbutyes It was really good, but the new Turkey Lurkey Time is kind of lame. ANd the 1st act drags, but overall it is sooo delightful and fun!!! :D

  • @mikeymob1 Apparently they did :-(

  • Julane did such an awesome job in this! i'm so glad to now have her as my teacher!

  • I believe that's Kelly Bishop in the back

  • Is the woman in the middle, the star of this scene, the same actress who danced in the movie version of "Sweet Charity" who did the lead in the nightclub dance scene which included "The Frug"?

  • @Barryburton63

The gal in "The Rich Man's Frug" is Barbara Sharma, who is a superior mock rock dancer than the gal in this video.

  • Fantastic routine not helped by the camera work and intrusive editing. How about showing the dancers' feet? And when they go into the figure eight a stationary wide shot showing the tight pattern they create would be nicer to see than a series of medium close-ups that make it look like a free-for-all.

  • That's Paul Reed as the executive standing on the platform at the beginning...a Broadway veteran. he was best known for plyaing "Captain Block" on "CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU?".

  • lol the lady with the purple dress kicked the lady at 1:42 looked pissed. You kick me honey watch it

  • Incomparable! Why can't we get this, and the rest of the Ed sullivan show musical acts on DVD. It would be a smash!!! xxx John xxx.

  • What is this from?

  • This is the Turkey Lurkey Time number from Promises, Promises. A Broadway musical from 1968. This particular performance is one that the cast did on the Ed Sullivan Show ( a popular musical variety TV show.)

  • Thanks, But I totally should of asked ***When*** is this from? Because I recognize Baayork Lee, but its not Donna McKechnie beside her (BTW, today is Donna's Birthday...HB!)

  • Definitely not Donna. But according to the comments below she is one of these ladies:

    Julane Stites

    Margo Sappington

    Graciela Daniele

    Lada Edmund

  • at 1:42 THE ONE IN THE PURPLE KICKED THE LADY BEHIND HER...LOL

  • Someone clearly missed their mark...I'm thinking it was the lady behind her....

  • @646guy Yes, it looks like the woman behind's fault. If you watch, she seems to be constantly trying to stay in the shot, where the dancers on the other side are well back, where they should be.

  • why is the black girl from Accounts Receivable? that's so stereotypical :)

  • I have to say, i do miss Donna's trick neck, bu i love Lada's long hair just swooshing all over the place! Just adds to the dancing for me.

  • That does it: Michael Bennett is now my favorite choreographer.

As to the dancers, they were great, but I sure miss Miss Donna M. n the middle.

  • Ms. De La Hoya is Julane Stites! Front and center! She is my art director and she is one frikin' fierce mamma

  • What art director and where?

  • dance director at arts and communications magnet academy

  • Yes, she was in the L.A. cast (Tony Roberts) and I saw her. Made quite an impression on me as a young teenage boy!

  • Julane Stites rocks! I can remember how she got that funky groove on like it was yesterday. Interesting how the same choreography works with different people. McKechnie had that great, graceful extension, and Stites has an awesome rocking feel, especially at the end. Wow!

  • Isn't this line-up (L to R) Baayork Lee, Margo Sappington and Candy Brown?

  • I have this clip but it's bad quality and has the time running underneath. How I wish they would release all the Sullivan stuff, there is so much great material! Where ever did you get this clean version?

  • Who plays ms De La Hoya in this clip? She has the most beautiful smile...

  • Donna McKechnie played the part on B'way. But I believe that it is Graciela Daniele in this clip.

  • Donna McKechnie originated the role in the original Broadway cast. This clip from 1970 features her replacement, a brunette Lada Edmund. A few years earlier, Donna, (a blonde) Lada and Michael Bennett were all dancers on the NBC TV dance/variety show HULLABALOO.

  • And the black woman in the purple dress playing Miss Polansky (now that's some colorblind casting for you) is Barbara Alston, another Hullabaloo alum. Since Michael Bennett was the choreographer for Promises, Promises, I guess it made sense that he would hire his friends from his Hullabaloo days to perform in this show.

  • Oh no, what happened? I got all excited to see this and it's gone :(

  • Turkey Lurkey must've been on break... they're all here for you! ;O)

  • donna will always be the best ms de la hoya imo

  • This was the Ed Sullivan show in 70 when "Promises Promises" wasn't doing very well. Ed was very supportive of Bway and would try to put the shows on that were either popular or who needed the help. In this case, it was an attempt to drum up interest in the show and up their ticket sales.

  • Must've worked. It ran for two more years before it finally closed;-)

  • What show was this broadcast on?
