I have one tomorrow morning. I'm a little nervous that I'll have a panic attack when I wake up, because I have an anxiety disorder and being groggy/confused scares me.
the 50% mark then after the surgery he develop sepsis so the doctors put him on extremely powerful antibiotics but it was too late that's when he died then they revived him but died again and that's when the doctor that tried helping my dad came in and said "yeah i'm sorry but he didn't make it do you want me to try and revive him" my mom said no...........................................
machine broke and he kept missing all his following appointment's because of it
so it was finally moved to the 9th the surgery went fine he had some sickness from the general anesthesia but the next day was having chills and had a high fever so we brought him back to the hospital and from there that's when everything went down hill
the doctors were fighting over if his bile duct collapsed which there is written evidence that it did so when the doctors finally did the surgery he was way past...
my dad died on February 12th 2011 from an gi endoscopy because he got sick back in June of 2010. he started turning yellow so we took him in to the ER and it turned out that a gallstone was lodge in his bile duct and was blocking his liver so the surgeons removed the gallstone they also removed his gallbladder then they put a stent in his liver so in case his bile duct collapsed then after that he was supposed to have it removed by Halloween which did not happen!!!! because the Endoscopy.....
What do they give you, if already on 120mg morphine a day for pain? most sedatives do not work on me. I am having a GI Endoscopy on on monday 5th Dec 2011, worried sick...can't swallow, lost almost 60lbs, and grandparent had 2 tumours on his food tract...he had duodenum stent to help..but was gone less than 3 months after diagnosed September 2005.
Whoever is getting this, don't get put to sleep, it's not worth it...Just get over it, I was scared but you know the less anaesthetics you get, the better it is. They put the tube into your mouth, you swallow it and then wait for like 10 minutes. I had many puke reactions (nothing coming out of course) and burping. I was really frightened, breathing quickly, but could start laughing at the same time. It is truly a weird experience, not painful, just a bit hard at the first try. Good luck to all!
I had this procedure done yesterday. Also had a Bravo implanted in my esophagus to monitor stomach acid levels for 48 hrs to see if I have G.E.R.D. Have to walk around with a pager looking device until the 48 hrs are up. The endoscopy itself was fine. Woke up drowsy, ate, didn't feel pain. Later at night I felt pain in my chest every time I swallowed but it's because of the implant. Gotta say the worst part was the anticipation of it all. You'll be alright...just relax :D
Yes, stop eating tomatoes in any form, orange juice, coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, aspirin, hot peppers, and stop smoking. And then you'll probably never need this.
I just had this done today. I got to keep all my own clothes on, I went into a prep room where I lay on my side & an anaesthetic was put into my right hand. I started to feel drowsy & then I think they put something in my mouth. I don't even remember falling asleep. When I woke up I was completely disorientated, it was great stuff they gave me, took me off to lala land & when I woke up I was high & happy. So were the other patients with me. Bit of a sore throat from acid no biggie. I'm from Aus.
having lots of cramping and pain after the procedure I had this morning. keeping me from sleeping.Soreness and lump in my throat.Hoping this pain and discomfort is short term. Hoping everything will be fine soon.
...What got me through it was remaining calm and centered, reminding myself that i wasn't going 2 die and remembering that my Grandma got through it without sedation when she was 82. Watching videos like this everyday for 2 weeks b4 the procedure also helped because i new what 2 expect. It lasted about 11 min., and Im glad I got through it without the drugs (the Doctor actually called me a "Tiger Woman"lol),but I hope I never have to go through this ever again. Good luck 2 you if ur getting 1.
I had this done today without any sedation (was completely awake). Never experienced a sensation like it before in my life--it feels exactly like it looks. Felt go all the way down to the duodenum and that was a little painful, but not unbearably so.
@CamOfficialMusic - you wrote: "...the 'duodenum' is actually pronounced 'doo-wah-dunum'. Not 'duo-dee-num'.
It is pronounced BOTH ways, as the word "either" for example, is pronounced both "ee-ther" and "eye-ther", depending on the user. If you go to an audio dictionary, you will actually hear the Nucleusanimation pronunciation, first. This is one of many procedures which I am involved with on a daily basis. Nucleusanimation is extremely exact in their language usage.
@luvmyasianman Thanks for explaining that! There are many medical terms with more than one correct pronunciation. We try to choose the one most commonly used by M.D.s.
yes I found a site where you can VALUE YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL (or web or blog) and you get help on how and where to sell it so you can make some good money with that !!! site is mysitemymoney . com
I had this done. It lasted about 15 minutes. I was passed out the entire time. I woke up and my mom and grandma were sitting there and I was like, "what happened?" Because I don't even remember falling asleep. The only downside is that I was hella sick the rest of the day, but we found out I was allergic to the anesthesia. Lol
@Speed1Killer1 Yes but it would be horribly difficult and painful and would require an extremely flexible and long tube. You wouldn't want anyone to do that to you
i just had this done 6 hours ago. i was freeking out. it seriously is NOTHING. you go to the hospital then check your oxygen levels blood pressure and all that jazz then you go into the room, docter says heyy you get an annasteia and alll the sudden you wake up in the recovery room i dont even remember anything, i dont even rememeber closing me eyes..when i woke up i was just dizzy , had a hard time walking and talking, and a verys ore throat, but dont be worries
@TimTheDayWalker I had an upper GI 2 years ago(it'll be 2 years tomorrow) when I was 12. Not scary one bit. Becuase I was young I woke up crying due to the side effects of versed(a heavenly pain med). Hope all went well!
I was totally terrified about having this done. I did it this morning and it was a piece a cake. I was wheeled into the room and the Doctor said hi and the next thing I new I was waking up in the recovery room. Please don't worry about this procedure, it will only add to your stress on the day of the appointment.
@layah2sexc You'll be fine. Ask the doctor to give you more sedative to help you relax. I was just as scared as you and after it was over I felt silly. Good Luck!!! Let me know how it goes.
@layah2sexc You can be asleep or a wake. If you are a wake they will give you something to numb your throat. You won't choke. You just feel like gaging and you will maybe breath a little different. I watch this stuff before I got mine and I was scared but I was fine. I saw the tube when I got mine. Its very thin and long. do you have any more questions?
I did this a couple weeks ago I was real nervous but I didn't feel a thing (until I woke up my throat hurted no homo but nothing painful) they gave me something and I feel asleep less than 2 minutes but when I woke up I tried putting my shirt and shoes back on I couldn't stand up felt like I was real drunk but they gave ne a wheel chair and pushed me to my moms car
i had this procedure done few hours ago and what can i say ? it hurts and is not that easy to support like some other users are suggesting . and my neck still hurts. and is pretty hard to breath.for few seconds i couldn't breath.
as an advice : stop drinking soda and stop eating fatty foods all the time..if you dont wanna get an endoscopy .. is not that easy to have every day painfull burns
@audistaako No. Of course not. I got it. They put me to sleep. I did not even feel anything. You just sleep through it. If you want too I can tell you want they do to you before it.
Just had this done today. I was very nervous but it was not nearly as bad as I expected. I remember very little. Took less than ten minutes. Piece of cake.
Crap i am paranoid of this im getting it done next month im scared of gagging can you ask them to put you asleep the whole procedure ? Please any HONEST ADVICE WOULD GREATLY HELP :) !!!!!
@mamboking138 I had it done three times over a 12 month period, I don't remember much about it, they discovered an ulcer (all's good now)...during the procedure I only recall hearing the nurse telling me sallow other than that I was in a deep, twilight state..You'll be fine, and that’s coming from a guy that was scared shitless before going in...
@Xr3alex100900 Yes thats what they do. Not really bad. I was over reacting for it. I tought it was going to be so bad but I was put to sleep and felt nothing.
im having his done on monday to test for ulcers in stomach and duedenum.getting anesthetic so hope i remember nowt.just scared of remembering gagging or chocking as im not good on even painkillers so good knows how ill be on anesthestic.was wide awake when they went up other end in2 bowel, that was horrible.but anything beats ulcer and gallstone stone pain.any1 who had anesthetic for this remember anything like gagging???
@mauribest1 I have got one before. Don't be scared. It may look scary but its not. Its pain free. They put you to sleep like I did. Just took a nap. You may wake up with like a sore throat or a bloated stomach. After that you just sit in bed for like an hour and then you go home. When it was for my Acid reflux I got something called prevacid and another medicine called carofat. I don't know how to spell it. Its just a coating around the stomach and esophagus. Any more Questions?
I did this last week, there no IV or anything, the worst part was when they sprayed anesthetic in my throat, it was bitter as FUCK, I had never tasted anything so bitter in my life. The rest of it was easy, but they will not let me view the TV monitor and see whats my insides look like.
is this the one that goes toward ur small intestine?i had a colonoscopy done Friday, can t remember a great deal although i sort of remember watching it.got a feeling this might be next,if so i don t want sedating id rather be unconscious
@gavinjoaquinolivas its easy bud. Go in, they hook up an IV and start some fluids to keep you hydrated, simple deal. They rolled me into the room they do it, and started some pain killers / sedatives. Mine were too weak so they gave me more a few minutes after the second dose, I went out.. I remember almost nothing. I woke up feeling drowsy and kinda hungry. Went home and watched tv and slept. I felt fine though, no pain. I've been through so much worse... don't worry bud.
had this done with I was 18. They got to swallow this liquid and gargle the other. The one I was supposed to gargle was supposed to stop me from puking. It made me want to vomit more. Got an injection and everything went black but I can remember the doctors telling me to open my mouth. I woke up on my side puking in a bucket. Highlight of the day: Being wheeled off in a wheel chair to the rest room :) ...I'm getting one soon again.
This is a real easy procedure, takes 10 mins. If you get anesthesia it's not a general so you won't be completely asleep. Yet you will be comfortable and not remember much... Painless deal don't be nervous the drugs are actually kinda nice!
@funkybreakbts ugh half of the comments say this was the worst thing that ever happened to them, and that it is really uncomfortable. I have had acid reflux for a couple years now and im 18 and my stomach just constantly hurts. i always feel like throwing up and im sick of it. could you tell me kind of what it was like for you?
I had this done today gagged alittle when it first hit the throat butatfer that not to bad at all it was over in five minutes its best f you breath through your nose
just got that done, its terrible!!!!.... but its one of those things that have to be taken care of, so hang in tight ppl. it will be over before u know it. stay positive, it will help and dont try to think about it too much :)
i got mine done without any seduation only throat spray which doesnt help much. and it is probably one of the most uncomfortable things i have done in my life.
wow i did this in vietnam, there was no pain killer, or anything, they called me in the room, asked me to lie down and there was a wooden head support, they placed a container next to my mouth and asked me to swallow as they put the tube in, the tube is as big as my thumb, they just kept pushing it down and i felt like vomiting, but i have to swallow down, it hurt as the tube poked my stomach,
I had this done a few weeks ago with a lower endoscopy too. I remember nothing. The room spun, they put me on my left...the room spun even worse. Then I went night night. Woke up as they were wheeling me out of the room.
Throat feels a bit sore afterwards, but such a relatively simple procedure could save your life. They used versed and propofol on my test and I didn't remember a thing. Just woke up in a recovery room.
A crew of us doctors made a rap video about gastric ulcers and over the counter pain medications, check it out by clicking the "zdoggmd" link or search "ulcer rap". These medications can be an often overlooked source of serious GI tract bleeding.
When I had this done, they put me to sleep. Didn't even have to suffer through this. I wasn't even awake for the I.V. Woke up when it was over in a super warm bed (heated blanket). Only gripe I had is that when I woke up, I had a really bad taste in my mouth because of the Anastasie.
I am so nervous everyone, because I have to have this procedure done on Monday morning at 7.30 AM. I mean I've had it done before at age 14 (I'm 23 now), and I felt fine afterwards just a little grogry and out of it but there weren't any stomach complications or anything. The test even came back negative for any stomach disorders, but I'm just nervous b/c that long ass scope is going to go down my throat. I can't wait until its over.
They should have videos like these prepped for all patients. I think it really gets rid of any fear because you can actually see what they will be doing. It's rather comforting.
ewwh, had a scope up the nose and down the throat in the emergency department last week! what drugs, I didn't get any!!! they knocked me out later to do the proper endoscopsy in surgery thank God! I'm 48 and found it most unpleasant, the 12yo's on this page are very brave!
I had this done last Thursday the 15th and I was fine friday. Then Sat. I woke with a terrible soar throat. It has been 5 days now and sore throat has not went away. Feels like I swallowed cotton :( Dr swears it is acid reflux causing sore throat, but I don't know, time will tell. Very scared.
i got 2 of these.. n im only 12! im not even over weight! i also got a galblater hida scan (cck) now iom getting exploratory surgery. I also got my apendix takin out... and have an extra toub on my kidney.. and i have marks going all down my asofagis (idk hwo to speell it) i had it done under anastesia
Even though i was knocked out, i can remember some gaging when they started to insert the tube down my throat but once they got futher down my throat i was fine. If it has to be done..it has to be done.
I am having this procedure done on Monday morning and I was so terrified of it! I am not used to any procedures or foreign object inserted in my body, if you will. Totally scared but it must be done and this video kinda made it a bit easier ... does not look as bad as I imagined it to be. Did anyone have any side effects after this procedure?
@PixieGone No side effects for me. im a 12 year old. Well i did have a sour throught.. but thats pretty much it. and allitle abdominal pain. i didnt have any pain while there were doing it. i was totally knocked out. It best if u try to stay up a while the night before so u will already be sleepy.. even though they say not to eat or drink.. u can drink a little.. just dont tell them, u will be fine. i had this done 2 times this year, and one done today. dont worry it will be fine
i had one of these procedures done myself. it really was'nt bad at all. what's bad is what they tell you what you have afterward. i've had mild chronic gastritis since i was eleven, it sucks sooo bad. but trust me if you get one of these done it goes by in a breeze. when i had mine they started an iv and shot me up with morphine or something, made me relaxed as fuck. then they take you back and knock you out with propofal. then you wake up ten minutes later stoned and barely able to stand.
I am so going to cancel my appointment for tomorrow! my appointment is for 12pm and I have a class at 3. I asked the receptionist if I could attend my class after the procedure and she said oh yeah!!!! now I see she was lying.
its not bad at all my boyfriend had it done it took 10 minutes he had a little sore throat that went away after he gargle with warm salt water so dont worry
I had this done today, slightly unpleasant at first and you will gag a little but once its in its not to bad, if your having one soon dont worry too much its not that bad, believe me I was caking before hand and wondered why I was so worried afterwards
I am only 13 years old and I had my first one done with out really knowing what it was. This video creeped me out knowing exactly what was done.I was scared to death to do but since I am a minor I was forced to do it. I have to have another one really soon due to medical problems they have come across with the biopsy samle from the first one.
I was terrified before this procedure! I almost backed out... been putting it off for YEARS because of fear... How stupid I was.. This was Cake...did not even remember having it done.. the only bad part was the numbing spray. tasted Horrible.... Had it done this Morning...
@mauribest1. Hi man, I had one, fully awake, and it was fine. I just had a spray to numb my throat, I didn't gag, I had no difficulty breathing, but I did try to relax by meditating while it was going on. It probably lasted two minutes or so and the Dr chatted to me throughout.
I am 14 and I had this & a colonoscopy only 2 days, it was not that bad. I had no pain whatsoever afterwards and was not sore. I did not have a bad throat or difficulty swallowing. Overall, painless procedure.
Worst bit is the bowel preparations. Made me sick on day 2. But the actual procedure was fine lol! And you will be glad to get it over with so you can eat again. =)
I had this done yesterday. It was very easy other than the IV... I hate needles! I was out cold, they put me to sleep in the procedure room and I woke up in recovery. I've had surgery before and it was so nice to wake up and not be in pain! I didn't even have a sore throat later.
i had that done in may of 09 i was knocked out nd don't remember a damn thing all i know i woke up in a puddle of drool nd my thoart hurting a lil nd i walked home from the hospital
I had it done 1 year ago.....no pain at all,it was only a little unpleasant-but no pain!!
When doctor pulled the air into my stomach-it made me barf a lot,and that gave me a laughter while this procedure.
ABout 10-12 mins after the procedure I could eat my breakfast without ANY swallowing difficulties. I am not saying it is a very pleasant thing, but my tolerance for pain is zero-and I had no problem enduring it!!!
ive had this done twice both with the spray down the troat they found pollops weak stomach lineing and diagnosed with h pylori aka helicobactor its horrorbal having the tube down the troat but the key really is to stay calm and before you no it its over i was 19 then 21 when had this done im now 26 if you have h pylori 20mg nexium is the best for it.
hmmm they put me under moderate sedation.........they did spray my throat, but I was out.....I have weak lining as well......If you don't mind my asking, what is h pylori, or helicobactor??? I have hiatal hernia and thats where the stomach goes into the chest cavity....
had this done the other day without the anesthetic and was ok......but i think if i get it done again il take the meds......the worst bit is swallowing the camera bit......the rest is a bit weird but if you stay calm its not too bad.....i just switched my brain off but i did gag a couple of times from the air they were pumping in me.......but gotta say the staff were amazing felt very at ease because of them.....
yea they put you under moderate sedatation...I JUST had this done today....and I'm having a sore throat....I don't really remember the procedure.....I didn't feel anything...because I was in twilight zone sort to speak
I was too, I was a nervous wreck and when I got to the room where they were going to do the procedure I was on the verge of tears.....but it was funny, because I was talking to the nurse and then lights out.........I was out cold...and that's a good thing. I woke up with a sore throat that lasts about a few hours, but goes away. I was scared over nothing. My problem was I had a hiatal hernia ( where the stomach goes into the chest cavity) It's not as bad as you think, I promise :D
hi you sent me a msg a month ago asking what it helicobactor for short is h pylori its a bug that lives in the stomach lineing the cause of thisbug is from raw meat etc its a nasty thing to have ifyour lucky it can be treated with a cocktail of pills calls heliclear didnt work forme the last test i had was clear of h pylori and i had my 3rd tube down just over a week ago had just the spray again and founda hiatal hernia weak lineing etc just have to deal with it now as dont no what they can do.
oh I'm so sorry to hear that.....I hope you get better.....I got my hiatal hernia symptoms under control along with my G.E.R.D.S problem.....but having a parasite, that sounds awful, hope its gone
ya u can choose i have at 7 endo's done I have chrons/colitis, diabetes, celiac, and next week im getting checked for colon cancer, I also have had 8 colonoscopy's done. I have chosen to go under general anesthesia for all of these.
Had this done 3 weeks ago. Confirmed Celiac Disease. I refused to be put under, and just had the numbing spray put on the back of my throat.
And I definately remember the whole thing, because I was gagging the entire time, right away my sinuses clogged up, felt like I was drowning while gaggain.
omg was it an experience. My eyes were beat red and I had a headache because of how hard I was gagging.
I have one tomorrow morning. I'm a little nervous that I'll have a panic attack when I wake up, because I have an anxiety disorder and being groggy/confused scares me.

Let me know how it goes.
adant75 10 months ago
@adant75 i'll try i'm just afraid of choking
layah2sexc 10 months ago
@layah2sexc You can be asleep or a wake. If you are a wake they will give you something to numb your throat. You won't choke. You just feel like gaging and you will maybe breath a little different. I watch this stuff before I got mine and I was scared but I was fine. I saw the tube when I got mine. Its very thin and long. do you have any more questions?

as an advice : stop drinking soda and stop eating fatty foods all the time..if you dont wanna get an endoscopy .. is not that easy to have every day painfull burns

mauribest1 11 months ago
@mauribest1 I have got one before. Don't be scared. It may look scary but its not. Its pain free. They put you to sleep like I did. Just took a nap. You may wake up with like a sore throat or a bloated stomach. After that you just sit in bed for like an hour and then you go home. When it was for my Acid reflux I got something called prevacid and another medicine called carofat. I don't know how to spell it. Its just a coating around the stomach and esophagus. Any more Questions?
Blueball0120 11 months ago
I did this last week, there no IV or anything, the worst part was when they sprayed anesthetic in my throat, it was bitter as FUCK, I had never tasted anything so bitter in my life. The rest of it was easy, but they will not let me view the TV monitor and see whats my insides look like.

Uuuugh, I had to get one of these. So much throat pain after, they took samples D:!
momoandmiz 1 year ago
had this done with I was 18.
SumoViking 1 year ago
@SumoViking Ask them to put you asleep while it's being done.
AngieeBabyy81 1 year ago
This is a real easy procedure, takes 10 mins. If you get anesthesia it's not a general so you won't be completely asleep. Yet you will be comfortable and not remember much... Painless deal don't be nervous the drugs are actually kinda nice!
funkybreakbts 1 year ago
@funkybreakbts ugh half of the comments say this was the worst thing that ever happened to them, and that it is really uncomfortable. wow i did this in vietnam, there was no pain killer, or anything, they called me in the room, asked me to lie down and there was a wooden head support, they placed a container next to my mouth and asked me to swallow as they put the tube in, the tube is as big as my thumb, they just kept pushing it down and i felt like vomiting, but i have to swallow down, it hurt as the tube poked my stomach,
it is thw worst thing i have even done

I am so nervous everyone, because I have to have this procedure done on Monday morning at 7.30 AM. I mean I've had it done before at age 14 (I'm 23 now), and I felt fine afterwards just a little grogry and out of it but there weren't any stomach complications or anything. The test even came back negative for any stomach disorders, but I'm just nervous b/c that long ass scope is going to go down my throat. I can't wait until its over.

I am having this procedure done on Monday morning and I was so terrified of it! I am not used to any procedures or foreign object inserted in my body, if you will.
AmericanGirlDoll1997 1 year ago
i had one of these procedures done myself. it really was'nt bad at all. what's bad is what they tell you what you have afterward. i've had mild chronic gastritis since i was eleven, it sucks sooo bad. but trust me if you get one of these done it goes by in a breeze. when i had mine they started an iv and shot me up with morphine or something, made me relaxed as fuck. then they take you back and knock you out with propofal. then you wake up ten minutes later stoned and barely able to stand.

Go for it. Good luck.

TheTwisterCane1 2 years ago
Had this done 3 weeks ago. Confirmed Celiac Disease. I refused to be put under, and just had the numbing spray put on the back of my throat.
And I definately remember the whole thing, because I was gagging the entire time, right away my sinuses clogged up, felt like I was drowning while gaggain.
omg was it an experience. My eyes were beat red and I had a headache because of how hard I was gagging.
If you have a choice, get the anesthetic
