  • this my friends is the future!

  • @wwfww : the best future will be with no darn gas prices!

  • @txturtlelytiger haha that would be heaven!

  • American cars are lemons that don't provide good value. If you buy a Japanese or European car, you will be able to drive your car for many hundreds of thousands of miles. If you buy American your car will start to experience MAJOR problems around 70,000 miles. American car companies are inferior in every single war to foreign manufacturers. They have ALWAYS BEEN inferior and ALWAYS WILL BE inferior.

  • We are eating our own tail...because we use non-renewable sources for most of our energy needs; Moreover, renewable sources have two problems the cost, both in dollars and the environment (destruction) and re-growth projects account for a net loss. So we still face the problem: energy production falls below the rate of energy use.We need to harness exotic & non-planetary sources of energy. The sources we now use kill us and other life. Our Sun is our one "safe" exo-source.

  • Hydrogen car could also power a house if need be.

This could allow for a more reliable national grid system. It could extend power storage to create back systems.

  • Right on, BigHands. Nano-tech may be practical for very small power demands, but nowhere near the power needed to move a vehicle.

Hydrogen may be cleaner at the tailpipe, but how are we supposed to get enough of it to power even a small percentage of cars? It's made by heating up methane, and that takes energy. It's also made by disassociating water - a very power hungry process: power plant burns coal -> electricity converts 2H2O to 2H2 and O2 -> store H2 for use in cars.

  • @MetGuy9966

There is definitely problems to overcome. New efficiency systems models are required.

Just a simple example. At night time the power grid is only at 5% capability even though power stations are still running as they cannot just be shut down. If a hydrogen network was set up on this system at night it could be using the other 95% and combining this with a smart grid could create more efficiency.

  • @MetGuy9966

Hydrogen storage could be considered a problem.

If there was a leak from hydrogen it will not linger as it will rise very quickly. If the car was to get trapped or ignite that would be a problem.

Nano engineered systems show a possible storage system. It is porous material membrane that can stop leaks from occur and if the tank is pierced only the ruptured area is effected.

  • Wow! Great idea! Even though electric cars have been around since the 1880s.

They have been around even before gas-powered vehicles. If they hadn't been

put aside to make gas-guzzling planet killers, the world would be very different today.

  • @Wolvezrein

batteries can compete with petrol. Petrol has better energy capabilities. It would not have been possible in the past.

We are almost at the point of batteries being able to power cars.

  • ...where are you gonna get the "free" hydrogen to fuel the vehicle?

  • @O2streaming

energy is all around us. It is a matter of converting that energy to hydrogen. Nano engineered systems are going to provide the capability to convert energy from our environment.

Introducing a hydrogen network could also make our current system up to 50% more efficient than todays.

  • @bighands69 What "nano-tech" are you speaking of? I know of no such "tech" that can squeeze more energy out of the Hydrogen product, than it takes to create the hydrogen to begin with?????????

Yes, once hydrogen is introduced to a ("gas") combustion engine, the gas burns more efficiently- but this does not mean that the hydrogen is, in itself, a "free" energy- Since we burn coal to make electricity, and we use electricity to produce the hydrogen. Explain, if you will...?

  • @O2streaming

    1/2

Nano technology could create car that are lighter stronger and faster.

With nano engineered materials a car could be produced that is as light as a bicycle. Nano tech could also create electronics that aid driving efficiency.

Electrical conductor could be produced that offer near 0 impedance cables for motors. Motor production could also be improved.

  • @O2streaming

    2/2

No energy is free but that is not to say it will cost anything to run renewable systems.

Creating clean coal burning stations could create a much cleaner environment as there would not be carbon particles released (soot) randomly.

UK has a 3000yr coal supply and russia has a similar reserve as does many other nations. Then there is renewable systems that could be inter combined with natural resources to produce a more stable energy economy.

  • Sure, it's a good idea, but we still need a good and economical way of producing hydrogen. Currently, any bulk production is made out of natural gas and it doesn't save the environment one bit. On the contrary, the process requires more energy. But who knows what the future will bring!

  • They will never sell in mass quantities, government and greedy oil men will suppress this knowledge! They destroyed all electric and water powered cars to keep us dependent on oil. Water or hydrogen powered cars were built and were everywhere more than 100 years ago... THINK HARD ON THIS ONE

  • Right now it still takes fossil fuel burning to fabricate usable hydrogen.

  • Does anybody know how many kw can we generate from using hydrogen fuel cell stack?

  • @heartlessvietboy on a car, it can do 100kw but it might be more now.

  • Here are my ideas of some neat cars.

    1. Hydrogen with AC Synchornous Permanent Magentic Motor with Atom Battery.

    2. On Board Electric Generator with Atom Battery and Magentic Motor.

3 Natural Gas Vehicle with AC Synchronous Permanenent Magentic Motor with Atom Battery.

  • 100Kw is a tremendous amount of electricity. I'm not familiar with Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology. Using Hydrogen Gas, running it into a chamber mixed with Oxygen to create electrons sounds fundamentally weird. Somehow those electrons can create that much electricity. You'd figure since a transformer can do the job why not use an atom battery and transformer. If a transformer can increase electricity 10 times, a 10Kw battery pack is enough.

  • @heartlessvietboy

A transformer cannot increase power it can only change the voltage up or down.

Electricity flows through atoms the same as electricity flows through cables so the amount of hydrogen that is used is more than enough.

Cars of the future may run on 1kw with advances in nanotechnology and advances in energy modelling.

  • Isn't "up" increase?

  • @heartlessvietboy

Voltage can increase but not power. kw is power not voltage. A system of 1kw could be enough with efficiency.

  • down with oil companies!

  • The Oil companies are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common ppl.

We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity.

Look for the LT MAGNET MOTOR in youtube video search. Join the Revolution!!

  • A second in August

We have installed systems in cars burning hydrogen without altering the characteristics of the engine is unique in the world that works very efficiently, deenvolvemos a device to produce hydrogen without electrolysis meted, unused solution, only water.

we have several project Ignitron replacing the plugs / cable velas.distribuidor coil, it operates 100% on where it comes from burning fuel economy and provide power and pollute less. temosmais projects.

    joel

  • Dont fall for the hydrogen FCV hoax. FCV are a energy sinks. These million dollar PEM fuel stacks will require a incredibily expensive infastrructure as well as subsibies even greater than those the Fossil fuel industry enjoys now to make the fuel itself even remotely cost-effective. The only reason GM and others promote the H2 hoax is because they know it will never work, thus ensureing the ICE continued dominance. Nothing more.

  • @Mebantiza A second in August

  • Is there anything with electric charged takes in Hydrogen temporarily?

  • Sun light can produce electricity and electricity can break down water to get hydrogen. Need breakthrough methods to store hydrogen safely. Who gets some easy answer? This should be some common science exist now.

  • why not just put the electricity into the car

  • JUST TALK TALK TALK TALK , DO IT

  • nutjob...all you need to generate hydrogen is an electric current and water...get serious...and i know you are going to ask where does the electric current come from...a hydrogen motor...LOL...turning an electric generator...or natural gas motor...you should look at the feuling station also on youtube...they generate their own hydrogen on site...and no fossil fuel used at all...lame

  • Please stop promulgating the idea that making hydrogen is green. The hydrogen is made by burning fossil fuels, and it's not so efficient. Making hydrogen from bio would mean you wouldn't have any more food! Please stop promoting nonsense.

  • @MetGuy9966

Hydrogen in cars is much cleaner than the particles that are released from petrol via the exhaust.

Creating clean coal burning stations and renewable systems combined with a stable model for petroleum power stations could create a more stable economic system and a much cleaner environment. This would not need much tweaking beyond our current system.

The rate of growth that is occurring renewable energy means that it will take over from fossil fuels in 20 years.

  • @bighands69 Many problems yet to be figured out when using Hydrogen in vehicles. It's tough to store; it escapes from any container that can be practical in a car. If we wanted to use power plants to create H for even a small percentage of our transportation needs, we would need a hundred new nuclear power plants.

Bottom line: Europe is ahead of us in the demand for alternatives to petrol. Yet, they haven't shown that hydrogen cars, of electric cars, are anywhere near practical.

  • Fuck all the so-called energy saving vehicles! these american auto corps. Are not going to mass produce these vehicle period! They just putting on an complete show! They are just teaseing the american public and the world! The american auto giants are all truly controlled by the secret societies. And they do NOT want the american public and the world. To have these so-called energy saving vehicles period!

  • wow, wellcome hydrogen car, bye bye no more stupid gasoline car

  • you can learn to make your car run on water and burn hydrogen at: thegas4free.blogspot,com

  • oboma should use his millions to get a hydrogen infrastucture up and running all over the use he did say he wanted to create jobs in the alternative energy field well here it is

    HYDROGEN POWER

  • And give up our precious OIL? Your crazy! lol Think about the rich guys, man, what about the rich guys??

  • The rich guys can stay rich on hydrogen if they play their cards right, Mabye not quite as obscenely rich but still pretty damn rich.

  • There has to be green energy in place to get the hydrogen without emissions in the process. So you need the green power Infrascructure in place to support an emission free fleet of fuel cell vehicles.

  • so you admit it then.. you all wet behind the ears!!..,and did enjoy your swim?

  • Seriously, man. You don't get it. If Hydrogen Power is a fraud then why have I seen it work before my eyes. Yes I have worked on the top secret project (!) that most Universities have, and openly welcome students to participate on. If you mean it isn't practical, I'm sure you know that current fuel cells require platinum components=expensive. Copper is currently being looked at as an alternative.

  • Hey! Where's the sound?! There no sound to this video clip!

  • you noticed that too ...

also watch chevy volt videos NONE had sound either...

    wonder why

  • Because the cars are very silent lol

  • What the fuck are you talking about?!

  • You lucky i can't find out where you live! Because i would quickly kick your fuckin' cracka ass! PUNK! And for your information my mother is deceased! You ignorant ass faggot!!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh dude sorry for being an ass sorry about your mother :/

  • Hey, GM? whatever happened to that electric car about 15-20 years ago? Just forget how to make em or what? You deserve to go bankrupt! Never buy a GM vehicle so long as there are automakers that have made both responsible economic AND environmental choices.

  • i don't hate GM i'll love them if they can produce a car better than Toyoto or Honda

  • hydrogen power is a FRAUD!! look up 'the hydrogen hoax' by robert zubrain

  • So you are taking Zubrain's word over the entire scientific community of the Earth?

    You are a cockguzzler

  • shrinkingphallus, kindly take a long walk of a very short pier. just because someone disagrees with you is no reason to be a frigging DICKHEAD. enjoy your walk :)

  • I may have fallen off of a pier, but you still guzzled a cock. But seriously, you conspiracy theorists just wallow in your own negativity and paranoia while the world moves on without you. Therefore, I'm hardly offended.

  • wont a collision between 2 hydrogen cars trigger a small hydrogen bomb?

  • you a fuckin funny idiot

  • no, you frekin retard, the water is converted into hydrogen with a battery just before it is burnt out of the exhaust pipe, hydrogen only blows up when it is stored in a tank

  • no no you are the retard...i know they wont expload...you just cant recognize a joke...eesh

  • now youre just trying to cover your ass and make yourself not look like a complete dickhead now, so just shutup

  • i don't care what you think,i just wrote a joke and you turned into mr.smartass.

  • i get what antiochblade is saying about letting GM got bankrupt. but if they go bankrupt millions of people will be loosing their jobs, and it probably would ruin America's economy more than it already is. I hate GM after waatching Who Killed the Electric Car. And they make shit for cars, but i just dont think it would be good if they go bankrupt.

  • KPKonliner the reason american car are shity is becaues all the big wigs say hey dont build it to well it might last.

  • people have relized that oil isnt the only fuil. the sad thing is this technology has be around for years.

  • I don't think GM has the GUTS to sell this cars. If I remember right, from the movie "Who killed the Electric Car" it was precisely GM killed them.

I would be mesmerized if GM went out there and actually SOLD this cars instead of "Leasing" them.

    Read the fine print please!

  • They probably wont.

    Their sales are doing horrid.

I'd much rather convert my car than buy a futuristic piece of shit.

  • Everyone interested in alternative energy, fuel cell cars, electric cars, etc., should really go out and rent "Who Killed the Electric Car?" After you watch it you can thank companies like GM for dangling this kind of technology, which we've had for years, in front of our faces then pulling it away while we pay $4.50 for a gallon of gas (at least up here in Alaska.)

  • Americans have stood by the big three automakers for 40 years . When a plant was shut down and moved we were told that is was necessary for the survival of the corporation . We were told this over and over and over . Plant after plant was shut down and moved to Canada , Mexico and other countries . Im tired of being loyal to corporations that screw over Americans for a buck . Most major Corporations have screwed Americans over again and again for the almighty dollar . LET THEM GO BANKRUPT !

  • and the japanese created production plants in the USA and provided jobs

Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi for starters..

thats why im buying only "American Made" by American Workers in America

not Canada, Brazil, Korea, or Mexico

  • Does anybody "not" hate GM ?

  • I dont hate General Motors,,But I do see were alot of people do..They were on top of the auto business for along time, and when your king of the hill for that long people start to bitch...Hell look at walmart people are starting on them in a big way..

  • Yes, I am hating on GM. I hate GM because they are ruthless, and do not care about producing a good product. All they care about are profits, and how to most efficiently strangle them out of people by any means possible, without regard for whether the means are ethical.

If GM grows up and begins producing good vehicles, I'll stop hating. Until then, I will continue to hope for the company to go completely bankrupt as soon as possible.

  • I'm on yer side , man ! GM sells unsafe cars , the quality of the materials are also bad , the website said that GM ccars are very efficient in using fuel but it's not , all GM cars waste a lot of fueln n the website said that GM cars has good quality....just checkout the official website of gm..

  • I don't know why GM even bothers with these concept cars. They KILLED the first practical car.. the EV1 years ago. They wouldn't even let the leasholders buy the damn things. I'm not fond of this company due to my experience with the S10 pickup truck (Chevy). I inherited it a few years ago from my dad after he died from heart complications. GM demanded that owners only use DEXCOOL antifreeze (shyte, total SHYTE!! That stuff RUINS engines!!)

  • So, now my radiator is full of that 'rusty clay', and I'm having the devil's own time getting rid of it. I just replaced the waterpump and backflushed the system and it STILL looks like liquid rust. Thanks loads, General Meatheads! I can see why you and Texaco are in litigation right now over this terrible crap. GM denies any wrongdoing; I was stuck for repairwork. They didn't even have the decency to recall S10's and fix the problem, which wouldn't have cost them hardly anything.

  • GM is also the company which bought out the subway and trolley system in Los Angeles, and dismantled it so they could make a killing with a bus system.

GM is a company that is all about making money at the expense of consumers, both with the initial sale of a vehicle, and near-continuous maintenance costs which push the price way beyond the initial sticker.

GM is almost as bad as the genius who sent US troops into Iraq.

  • Fuel cell cars are absolute GARBAGE. It's a distraction to take attention away from vehicles which would actually empower consumers: Battery-powered electric vehicles.

Similarly, many electric car makers have been paid to make vehicles with very low top speed and low range to make the technology seem worthless compared to gas.

Look up the Tesla Roadster and the ZAP-X.

Long range, fast charge time, high performance, extremely low maintenance, low pollution.

    GM sucks hard.

  • Lucky me , because in my country , all chevy cars are made in GM Korea , not USA.....GW Korea is better than GM USA......the quality is better than the old chevy cars that are made in USA........since all chevy are made in Korea , Chevy became popular in my country , unlike 3 years ago when it was made in USA....i'm sayin not because I hate americans but to give advice to GM USA.....

  • would they have to use water to make the hydrogen

  • I think both systems should be available. Let the market decide which is more workable. The only thing I would like to see is some strong government support for these technologies which just isn't happening on the scale it needs to. Which I don't get because it would resurrect our flailing economy.

  • Blah blah blah blah blah, that's all this guy does. lol. "Oh, you're not worth my time but I only responded to every single one of your comments!" what a fucking loser! LOL! He can't even get his shit straight and admit that he's interested in arguing. haha...

  • Its so loud it instantly blew my eardrums out and I can't hear.

  • Today (4/18/08) learned of "Project Lighthouse."

Four to six filling stations in a locale will offer hydrogen fuel. Washington DC was chosen as the site of the first station."

  • GM is really good at making shows. "Look people atleast we "TRY" to be green" And behind the screens it's like:

Nice speach boss, now try to make a story that

EV's dont work.. something with battery or money. :) I think.. personally the VOLT will never be there or will undergo the same story as the EV1. They already told they wont sell the VOLT in the first period.. but "LEASE" them.. see ?? it sounds like EV1 story. So they could take the car back again. And start making gas guzzlers again.

  • Mainersiyok is right... GM is great in making people believe they are doing the right thing.

The real thing is... they are EVIL!

Look at the ev1. it was way better then there new fuell cell or VOLT.

  • Hydrogen car and driver= Coyote on rocket.

    EV driver= Roadrunner.

  • I don't know about everyone else, but I get nervous just being around little itty bitty ole' propane tanks on BBQ's, hydrogen storage capacity in cars will have to be 10-15 times more than a little propane tank, and at greater compression to. Thats like sitting on a tiny H-Bomb. Do we really want our cars to run on bomb technology? That would give new meaning to 'car bombing'...lets not support things of that nature.

  • and there is nothing wrong with 50 liters of gasoline in your car that can explode, just about the same as hydrogen! It's people like you that hold back technology.

  • Actually, if you do the math, the explosion would be greater than a gasoline tank. I don't think I am one to hold technology back, as you can see by some of my video favorites, i'm an advocate of technology, there are just some that should never be, though. Some of those which will never be anyhow, they're just made out to look as it they will ever be. I think companies like GM are the entities who hold back technology. Have you ever heard of just putting on a show? They're doing that...

  • By the way, adding "It's people like you..." to your opinions on others opinions does not make people think about why your opinion may be more right than theirs. Sorry to break it to you. SOme people are just highly set in their ways, I've tried using that as a tactic to get people to reconsider their views on matters and it just does not work, especially on people older than you.

  • With the amount of crash tests cars have to go through (atleast in my country) there isn't much to worry about, they will make it very safe. But I suppose we will have to wait and see.

Hydrogen is easy to make and I could see it being transferred straight from the plant through pipes to the fill up station. It's the perfect fuel IMO, when being realistic.

  • ok so do u have a better idea?? idk about u, but this (high gas prices and wars for oil) has to stop somewere. Im sick of it.

  • If hydrogen economy works out, I have no problem with it. I just think battery electric vehicals are superior because you can recharge at home for less than it would be to refuel a hydrogen car. The thing is, Ev's have been done and the car companies didn't see a short or long term profit from them because they wear out after a long period of time and they have less parts.

  • Now with the hydrogen cars, the car companies want us to wait for those so they can sell us even more parts than current cars, replace them more often, and they also want the ties to the fuel industry to stay strong.

  • That's why I have a problem with it, not because it won't help us, but because it'll just cost us more time and money. Electric cars are more efficient all together, especially in production and maintenance. Think about it, no fancy parts to replace. Hydrogen cars will be great for people who like or need to drive long distances, I think people like that will have both an electric car and hrdrogen car.

  • For people that only drive less than 100 miles, ev's should be fine. Believe me, i'm sick of the wars and high prices too, but hydrogen isn't going to solve that on it's own.

  • I personally don't like the electric solution because of pollution. The batteries will end up in land fills some day and most electricity is generated by burning very dirty fossil fuels likes coal and oil.

  • You're not thinking out of the box much are you? lol. You know, with the money that is spent on new power plants, they certainly could utilize that money instead on renewable energy, I'm not saying it all has to be solar because not everywhere in the U.S. is bright and sunny all the time. Alernative energy plants can work on a combination of technology where environmental circumstances apply. On a side note, how do you think your precious hydrogen will be produced at first? By fossil fuels!

  • Even when hydrogen is switched over to being produce by renewable energy, the energy it takes to produce hydrogen is greater than the energy it takes to charge batteries. ANd what about down the line when hydrogen is used to produce even more hydrogen? Twice as much will be used to produce half as much. Not to mention, hydrogen cars need more hydrogen to run than electric cars need electricity to run. About the battery issue, don't you know batteries are recyclable? you probably didn't...lol.

  • That's how the energy cycle goes presently, Fossil fuels are used to refine fossil fuels, that go into cars, and generators. It's pretty cannibalistic if you ask me. Why do it all over again with hydrogen when you can go all electric and eliminate the cannibalistic nature of the energy production process. There is already lots of non-polluting energy around us, we just have to harness it, we don't need another process of producing energy that's a freak of nature and not a very natural process.

  • You've got to think outside the box a bit more. Again, the batteries will end up in land fills, not everyone recycles, in fact almost no one does in the US and you have to take things like that into consideration... not mention that recycling isn't always the best solution its self.

  • I don't know what state you live in but I live in California, pretty much half or even more of the states population recycles. You may be thinking out of the box, but with backward thinking...lol. I'm already thinking out of the box, it involves recycling the damn batteries, if you see that as an inconvenience to people then I feel sorry for you and the people not willing to recycle batteries.

  • I live in California as well and the last poll out here came to less than 30%. I think outside the box but at least I'm still thinking realistically. Again though, recycling batteries has it's own issues that cause pollution. You need to do a lot more research.

  • I'd like to know where that figure is from before I make any further assumptions. Please share...lol. For the record, it's illegal to just dump e-waste and HH waste, maybe you might want to start getting the word out to the rest of the 70 percent of California's population, I'm sure you can do it! You sure do a superb job of making me want to recycle... lol. You haven't even advocated the recycling of batteries once and you're bothered by the mere "30%" you claim recycles in California....LOL!

  • I don't advocate recycling in general, I feel it's a last resort. Recycling is destructive and pollutive process, while it's some times unnecessary it's better to do things right in the first place so that it doesn't have to happen as much. The phrase is ordered "reduce, reuse, recycle" for a reason. As for my figures just do a quick Google search.

  • I didn't say anything about hydrogen being the solution. While it would be far more efficient for cars and can be collected/created without using any electricity I don't think it's a fast enough solution. The best solution is air powered cars running a similar system to the ones they have in Europe, it's a truly 0 pollution vehicle and the filling stations are required to use solar/wind to power their air compressors. The cars have the same efficiency as EVs and are better for the environment.

  • Ok...air powered cars!? O...K...and that'll catch on better than EV's? LMFAO! How are Air cars more friendly to the environement than EV's!?!? lol. Electricity can be produced the same way you propose the compressed air will be produced. People barely want EV's and you think we should drive cars that run on compressed air? LOL! People must like driving around in death traps with several moving parts to maintain, also something that always has to have flammables and stuff under pressure....geesh.

  • I don't see how millions of people storing air in tanks is benefitial to the environment...that kind of reminds me of bottled water, and we all know bottled water isn't a good thing unless it is for aid. Sure, lets all drive air cars and make the air thinner! We might as well, at least what air is there will be clean, it'll still be as hard to breathe..haha.

  • Who said anything about storing tanks? As for making the air thinner... do you have an idea what that would take? You'd have to be doing it on purpose. Please do some research instead of assuming you know what you're talking about.

  • I wouldn't pass your "knowledge" off as being the result of "research"...lol. You seem to bring up "Who said anything about such and such" alot...Well, now it's my turn. Who said I said anything about storing tanks? I WROTE, not said mind you, about storing AIR in tanks, not "storing tanks"...If you cannot read what I wrote a little more thoroughly then I suggest you not try to come off as intelligent in the matter. thank you. good day. lol.

  • lol, that was a very sad attempt at a come back. I'm not here to nitpick over tiny details in sentence structure, only to post what I've found to be true. You're not worth my time.

  • It has caught on just fine everywhere else in the world. As for how they're more environmentally sound, you can run a filling station off a single home sized solar panel, EVs are nowhere near that efficient.

  • Too bad GM's intentions are not sincere.

  • OMG what are the Muslims gonna do when we don't need their crappy petro?

I guess they will have to sell the mortgage company's they bought in the US this last week and buy camels.

    Buwahahahaha

  • a company called united neuclear has make a kit the you can install on late model cars that puts hydrogen tanks in rthe back of your car and a solar powered hydrogen generator that you keep at ur house and refill with. with 4 tanks u can go 600 miles a tank. this is a great idea and has been ready for sale to the public for 2 years but for some political reason its still not available for sale.

  • Cool looking car!

  • HAHA!! the car can't even keep up with the camera towards the end!

  • I replied with a video, "EVS23: fuel cell or fool sell", cataloguing the problems that Ballard is trying to hide. Like, they say they are going to "filter out" sulfur and CO!!! What a sham!!!

  • 7) Performance is even worse in cold weather

  • 1) Cost of a Fuel Cell car is about one million US dollars

    2) Fuel cell engine life span is only 3 years

    3) It takes twice the electricity to fill a fuel cell vehicle as it would an electric vehicle

    4) Billions more required for a hydrogen infrastructure

    5) No material known to man can hold enough hydrogen for anything past 100 miles

    6) Leading Hydrogen research facilities now bailing out of this PR stunt ie Ballard Power

  • I think the hydrogen economy is a dead end. I believe that the methanol economy is more viable, and can utilise existing infrastructure and technology without the use of ridiculously expensive hydro fuel cells.

  • Ethanol is still poluent! The main goal here is o% emissions. And.. If the world adopt hydrogen as main fuel it would be lot cheaper than ethanol.. Let the companies invest in new infrastructures.. whats wrong with that? they have made so much money at the cost of environment that its the least they can do.. Ethanol is only used on 3rd world countries cause its more poluent to produce than oil even if at the end of the cicle it is least prejudicial.. u polute 1 to save 1.. ethanol its a con!

  • Not ethanol, methanol - huge difference - google it if ya dont believe me

  • So what? its still poluent.. Hydrogen give no chance when it comes to power, emissions and unlimited ressources!

  • Hydrogen requires more energy to produce than the energy it puts out. So how ya gonna power the hydrogen generators?

  • cause u need CLEAN energy to produve hydrogen who is CLEAN also... Thats the real issue! CLEAN ENERGY! whats the problem about needing 5 units of clean electicity to produce 1 unit of clean hydrogen? Hydrogen is much powerfull and doesn need recharges and its 100% emission free...

  • hate to break it for ya, 5 units of clean electricity will go towards 5 units of clean mileage in EVs.Why would you add a step to make it more inefficient? Does hydrogen get 0-60 in 4seconds?Ihaven't seen one yet.

  • Hydrogen is much more explosive than gasoline. Just browse BMW HYDROGEN SERIE 5a nd you will see.. They made a prototype engine for the 1st time and its already more than 250 worse power.. Besides that, if u can produce clean electricity with no limits u can also have unlimited hydrogen.. its just a question of political will..

  • Hydrogen fuel cells are merely a means of producing electricity for the car's electric motors. So the question is really a car based on electric motors can do 0-60 MPH in under 4 seconds and the answer has been yes for a little while now.

Go to Tesla Motors and see for yourself.

  • This is nothing more then a stall tactic so you continue to buy gasoline run vehicles and not demanding zero emission vehicles now. Just watch "Who Killed The Electric Car."

  • Well, It about time American automakers start to contibute towards global warming elimantion. Only problem, they need to do this ASAP! As Soon As Possible. Come on everyone. You can also show you care about our world.

  • Is this a turtle race? It seems as if someone is having a tough time peddling inside the car to get it going, or they fell asleep. At least, one glimpse of the car speeding would show its horsepower and capability. :)

  • be better if it ran on HH0

  • thats not possible .. have u seen water burning? Water can be used to split hydrogen from oxygen and bur H ãs a fuel.. but water by itselfs is only good to wach my feets...

  • Cool, but "significant impact on global warming?" Puh-lease. There's not a shred of scientific proof that burning fossil fuels causes global warming. For all we know, cow flatulence is the cause of the .6 C degree rise in the earth's temperature over the last 100 years...

  • ahahah! what an idiot you must be! What do u think? UN are spending millions on kyoto protocol on a inch? ahah.. Get real u retard, 6c degrees on earth temperature on 100 years never happened on THOUSANDS of years.. more than that, the rise follow closely the grouth of emissions.. what a moron..

  • The sequel is a new design from ground up, not an adapted car, almost everything is different about it, unlike BMW fuel Cell carfor example. Nice design too!

  • Hydrogen fuel cell (sequel)cars ARE electric cars.

    Love GM stuff

  • Well I have a much cheaper unit I make... Check out my profile.. H2 booster that anyone can do!

    I also have a Blog hydrogen.mixcat . com

Let me know what you think!

  • This is favoring the automotive and oil companies. The reason why they are doing research on hydrogen cars rather than electric cars is because it takes 3x more energy to power a hydrogen car the same distance of an electric car. And the cheapest way to get hydrogen, is through fossil fuels.

  • unfortunately there isnt enough electricity made from hydroeletric plants and wind to compensate the large need for hydrogen production when and if this takes off. Maybe ethanol will still be viable option, that is if the price goes down on it.

  • This vehicle really doesn't represent a big advancement regarding pollution, because they're going to generate hydrogen from electricity, which actually translates into oil to generate hydrogen... :-(

  • Old technology from the 60's - 70's. It took GM 40 years to do what exactly? Sop up billions in government grants with a pretense of 'developing' something that was already developed? Just buy a hydrogen car from Honda in 2008 and give up on GM (Grandpa Motors).

  • That car looks pretty bad compared 2 the BMW

  • To produce hydrogen you have to run an electric current through water.

Why not just produce cars that run on electricity? Plus...electricity doesn't blow up and stuff and junk.

  • This car produces water vapor. So in a few year will to much water vapor in some area effect the Eco-system?

  • This car produce water vapor. So in a few years will to much water vapor is some areas effect the Eco-system?

  • If people boycott, they will have no other choice but to begin selling fuel cell cars. Loss of revenue is a very powerful and persuasive motivator. Try not buying or leasing in 2007 wait a year; tell your friends and family to wait a year. Don't give in to a tempting price or financing incentive. We'll see fuel cell cars on the road sooner than you think.

  • If everyone stopped buying and leasing new gasoline powered cars, the car manufacturers would first drop their prices. If that incentive doesn't work, they would add new technology as standard equipment i.e. self-parking, auto-braking, navigation system.

  • Why would any want self parking that is just more things that can go wrong and cost the owner more time and money. Is park your car really that hard? I think it just makes people more lazy. Simple=Better

  • Nah, it looks pretty much like something GM would make - ugly as hell. Hopefully the redesign is more attractive.

Thanks for the update on the hydrogen production stuff, guys. I should pay less attention to what oil stooges like Patrick Bedadrd (car and Driver mag) have to say, and read more on the web about this technology.

  • That is probably designed by some space cadet from China.

  • Furthermore, using commercial electricity produced from renewable energy sources like wind or hydroelectricity, the hydrogen can be produced 100% pollution-free. Sure this may take a lot of energy to be put in to get the hydrogen, but if that energy is renewable this becomes irrelevant.

  • it doesnt make it irrelevant just because it's renewable! why use more energy than necessary? that makes no sense! BEV technology is getting better faster than Fuel Cell and hydrogen tech. EVs are cheaper now, and so is the energy that they use (electricity). It's especially cheaper if you have your own solar panel array. People are crazy to think hydrogen cars will improve their lives!

  • The common person will be working the rest of their life to pay for a car that stops working in 3 years, and all their monthly wage will go towards fueling it. LOL!

  • Hydrogen technology like this is a long-term, from now until forever technology. Solar technology and wind, etc. are all great but have variables that make them not always as dependable. With hydrogen technology there is a CLEAN method of producing electricity that can be utilized at many levels from the home, car, cities and other kinds of vehicles.

Hydrogen fuel technology is investing in the long term, not just grabbing "this works" for now and dealing with the waste of it later.

  • Yeah, thats true. Hydrogen is viable for certain markets. For instance, up north or the north east where they dont get as much efficiency out of solar because of less sunlight or potential snow cover on solar panels (only during certain times of the year), but they can still drive electric cars. My problem with the major car companies pushing hydrogen fuel cells as the future is just that, thats all they are trying to push. For them, they don't seem to allow much diversification...

  • The very aspect of life in which people who want 0emissions are trying to protect (evironment) teaches us that diversity is very necessary for success. The big guys in the auto industry have completely nudged aside EV's into the idea waste bin because they don't benefit them or their sponsers (fuel companies) as much as Hybrids or FCV's. The fuel companies will quickly understand they don't need the major car companies as much when smaller EV companies start producing large amounts of EV's...

  • and the Electric utility provides require additional fuel to compensate for more power generation because they arent rolling out solar/wind facilities fast enough to handle the greater demand. The fuel companies will have greater relationships with the power companies than the automakers. Thus, the auto companies will have to come up with similar business models as the smaller EV companies to survive. Electric infrastructure is here now, hydrogen infrastructure is not. Front runners usually win.

  • Oh yes, about the grabbing of "this works"...If you're referring to EV's, I would suggest researching where the energy for producing hydrogen will come from if you don't already know. Also, what kind of investment will fuel cells be to the future if we can't even put sufficient money down for FC investments due to increase in price of gasoline? In a lot of peoples predictions, the country (U.S.) will be suffering greatly way before there is even the remote possibility of massive FCV rollout.

  • The average family can barely afford to fill up now! What makes people think a new technology is going to be cheaper by the time it's necessary for it to be cheap enough for the whole of the country? We don't have a couple decades to wait, thats how long it took for the PC to come down in price enough for many struggling middle class families...thats not even including the severely lower class families. Lower class families need cars and cheap energy to run them on too.

  • There are renewable ways to create hydrogen that do not create or use any polluting issues. Honda is coming out with a system that you use in your home. You tap into the gas line and the unit converts the gas to hydrogen. In that scenario, instead of your home burning the gas, the hydrogen is used that does not creat any pollution.
