@sumimimi0 Perhaps ginseng gives "energy" (in physics, energy is the ability to do work)? But it is sold 4 times more ginseng in the world than the amount produced! In other words, 3 out of 4 ginseng buyers get dried carrot! But perhaps, also carrot does the trick?
@Jegermeistern lol... ginseng is only called a ginseng if the ginseng meets some kind of criteria which korea has set. those fake ones are from china and other countries.. ginseng does give energy.. i always eat one.. in the morning
As an overall performance in this role neither Dessay nor Jo can touch Damrau. People even comparing the overall performances, which is what opera/theatre is, obviously don't have a clue.
I agree. Damrau truly evokes the essence of the vindictive and deranged Queen. Still, from a technique standpoint, Dessay and Jo have a freer top and without the neck tension (though that could help the visual of the character).
In the opera, the order is "O Zittre Nicht," "Der Holle Rache kocht" and "Nur Stille!" In this clip, it's "Nur Stille!," "O Zittre Nicht," and "Der Holle Rache"
i prefer Diana Damrau...she his so passionate and sing so good..its like she was born to sing this role...i love her and sumi jo...i really would like to be lirica and ligera...but i dont know what i am yet...hehehe..
The sound just on the best bit is patchy, don't tell me overlistening will leave some kind of mark and will eventually leave the bit unplayable...Could that technically happen? You know how they told us CDs would never get scratches like vinyls, yeah well ha ha...
It's understandable she mentioned doesn't like this role that much. It's so painful for most of sopranoes, needed so much energy to handle this. Fortunately (or Unfortunately) she got the talent to do this.
Dessay?? Dessay looks like she's about to pass out!
Her vibrato is way too wide and she lacks the energy!!! Sumi Jo's high F is piercing through the air! That is how Queen of the Night arias should be sung...if you know about the character maybe you would appreciate the right singer.
I agree N D voice his not natural, she just try to push notes has hight as possible, she has energy on stage by moving too much to catch the attention. Compare with the elegance of Anderson...
well personaly I like them both although now dessay isn't singing the queen so whatever but I actually think they are two different kinds of queens sumi jo definetly plays the queen how she has always been played and thats not a bad thing but dessay tries to put some humanity into it which can fall flat so personally I love them both
when she has a good day, she is the best soprano ever. i have her on cd, and the performance she sang that is on my cd is way better than what she sang right now. she is just awesome.
Sumi Jo is a real treasure. I totally agree with DonMario11238. Based on what music scholars and other researchers know about Mozart's choices as far as sopranos go, the composer would have fallen in love with the voices of singers like Sumi Jo and Natalie Dessay.
Let me say I do love Sumi Jo, and granted she sounds wonderful...but wow, she's not even TRYING to act in this video. She's visibly focusing all her energy on her breathing and relaxing her mouth/jaw. She shows herself to be a great technician here, but not an artist.
its interesting to hear different sopranos opinions on this role beverly sills didn't like the role i think she found it rather boring the quen is only on the stage 3 times i remember her saying she was backstage in her dressing room mailing christmas cards
She has been singing this for over 15 years. She's doing better than Dessay after all this time. She admits it's a difficult role, and that is very taxing. Cheers to her for being able to sing it.
Saw her live in Brussel and despite all the admiration I have for her, I must say she was not the best Queen of the Night, her voice was too thin, her high F's strained to the limit and she looked totally unconfortable.
Suni Jo is Korean!!! I am so proud!!!
