  • Suni Jo is Korean!!! I am so proud!!!

  • I love her! <3

  • OMG i love her .. She executes this so beautifully!! (A bit of 'ding' there.. but over all.. near perfection!)

  • stop talking about fuking ginseng and listen to her good singing. those of you bragging about ginseng are lesser than kids playing guitar hero XD

  • Ginsing is yucky D:

  • Well she really concentrates and practices alright, cause she does it beautifully!!!

  • Essa realmente é uma cantora do bel canto.Bravissima Sumi,....eternamente!!!!!!

  • This is so beautiful. Listening to her sing makes me wish I could sing like that. How lovely!

  • heck, I can't see the video

  • I can't see it either.

  • Amazing power. I like that she says control. I wonder what would happen if she lost all control. Now that would be the madness worth hearing.

  • ginseng.

    i get it now.

hhaaha it's amazing how high somebody can go

  • ginseng??

  • LOL

taking ginseng can make people sing that high.

  • @teddytian0806 she is just saying ginseng gave energy. don't understand??

  • @sumimimi0 Perhaps ginseng gives "energy" (in physics, energy is the ability to do work)? But it is sold 4 times more ginseng in the world than the amount produced! In other words, 3 out of 4 ginseng buyers get dried carrot! But perhaps, also carrot does the trick?

  • @Jegermeistern lol... ginseng is only called a ginseng if the ginseng meets some kind of criteria which korea has set. those fake ones are from china and other countries.. ginseng does give energy.. i always eat one.. in the morning

  • @Jegermeistern dried carrot?? cause they bought fake ones i guess.. to get a real one buy the jung gwan jang one..

  • This aria needs so much EnerGy. Here she said korean red ginseng would help her in some how.

so what is the big deal?

  • @limpandlinkin what does her being south korean or japanese have to do with anything? she's a great singer, that's all that matters

  • what is that aria she is singing at 40 sec?

  • o zittre nicht.... its my favorite of the 3.

  • there are only two... der hölle rache and this one...

  • Were you thinking of "Nur stille"?

That song has the Queen of the Night but it isn't an aria.

  • yes i was including nur stille.... my mistake

  • the queen of the night aria is the most common name...

  • and imagine tat they had to do it in the 18 century with nothing like ginsing. but shes pretty good

  • well, if it's a challenge to a human, then u know that it's made by wolfgang amadeus mozart.

  • I saw her in Madison Wisconsin. Unbelievable, no words could convey her magic.

  • when was she in madison?

  • adore...

  • As an overall performance in this role neither Dessay nor Jo can touch Damrau. People even comparing the overall performances, which is what opera/theatre is, obviously don't have a clue.

  • I agree. Damrau truly evokes the essence of the vindictive and deranged Queen. Still, from a technique standpoint, Dessay and Jo have a freer top and without the neck tension (though that could help the visual of the character).

  • i would like to ask something...there are 3 arias right...the 3rd of coz queen night aria...i would like to know...the 2nd aria...what song...pls...

omigod...sumi jo juz one of the perfect singer that i heard to sing this aria...bravo...

  • In the opera, the order is "O Zittre Nicht," "Der Holle Rache kocht" and "Nur Stille!" In this clip, it's "Nur Stille!," "O Zittre Nicht," and "Der Holle Rache"

  • This is just a bad recording. If you hear a good one, you'll be amazed! She is definitely the best! Amazing!

  • Wow, lots of power behind her voice, but she needs to act more on stage.

  • i prefer Diana Damrau...she his so passionate and sing so good..its like she was born to sing this role...i love her and sumi jo...i really would like to be lirica and ligera...but i dont know what i am yet...hehehe..

  • The best bel canto coloratura of the century!!!

    BRAVISSIMA!!!

  • god damn jerky sound camera man

  • her F's are a little screechy, nut otherwise she is great!

  • Very powerful video.

  • The sound just on the best bit is patchy, don't tell me overlistening will leave some kind of mark and will eventually leave the bit unplayable...Could that technically happen? You know how they told us CDs would never get scratches like vinyls, yeah well ha ha...

  • Don't get me wrong, Sumi Jo is AMAZING but she looks like a stiff snowman when she's singing the aria.

  • It's understandable she mentioned doesn't like this role that much. It's so painful for most of sopranoes, needed so much energy to handle this. Fortunately (or Unfortunately) she got the talent to do this.

  • Dessay is 10x better in my opinion i dont like sumi's high F's all that much

  • you must be kidding!! hahaha!!!

Dessay?? Dessay looks like she's about to pass out!

Her vibrato is way too wide and she lacks the energy!!! Sumi Jo's high F is piercing through the air! That is how Queen of the Night arias should be sung...if you know about the character maybe you would appreciate the right singer.

  • I do appreciate the right singer

    that being Natalie Dessay

I love Sumi Jo but not as the Queen of the Night

  • But you do know that Queen of the Night has to be fierce. Dessay is just complete opposite of fierce.

  • I agree N D voice his not natural, she just try to push notes has hight as possible, she has energy on stage by moving too much to catch the attention. Compare with the elegance of Anderson...

  • well personaly I like them both although now dessay isn't singing the queen so whatever but I actually think they are two different kinds of queens sumi jo definetly plays the queen how she has always been played and thats not a bad thing but dessay tries to put some humanity into it which can fall flat so personally I love them both

  • Yay for Sumi Jo :D

  • whoa..i did not know she could sing like that...cause the way she sang o del mio dolce ardor really turned me off but damn..i'm impressed.

  • she's beautiful and the BEST aria singer

  • ...i love how she says that she doesn't really like this role, yet she plays it

  • when she has a good day, she is the best soprano ever. i have her on cd, and the performance she sang that is on my cd is way better than what she sang right now. she is just awesome.

  • Show them how to do it Sumi!!! Mozart would of fell in Love with you!

  • Sumi Jo is a real treasure. I totally agree with DonMario11238. Based on what music scholars and other researchers know about Mozart's choices as far as sopranos go, the composer would have fallen in love with the voices of singers like Sumi Jo and Natalie Dessay.

  • Let me say I do love Sumi Jo, and granted she sounds wonderful...but wow, she's not even TRYING to act in this video. She's visibly focusing all her energy on her breathing and relaxing her mouth/jaw. She shows herself to be a great technician here, but not an artist.

  • its interesting to hear different sopranos opinions on this role beverly sills didn't like the role i think she found it rather boring the quen is only on the stage 3 times i remember her saying she was backstage in her dressing room mailing christmas cards

  • Remember too, every singer has an off night at least once in a while.

  • She has been singing this for over 15 years. She's doing better than Dessay after all this time. She admits it's a difficult role, and that is very taxing. Cheers to her for being able to sing it.

  • Saw her live in Brussel and despite all the admiration I have for her, I must say she was not the best Queen of the Night, her voice was too thin, her high F's strained to the limit and she looked totally unconfortable.

Too bad for such a fabulous artist.

  • what is the name of the piece that she and the others are singing at the very beginning of this clip?

  • It's shortly before the end of the opera when the Queen, her ladies and Monostatos sneak into the temple and get caught.

  • Sexy Korean girl!

  • crudasorte ! the year is 2005.

Conductor is Renee Jacobs, thr theater is

La Monnaie du Munt, Brussels, Belgium.

  • Wow, it sounds as though her voice has gotten somewhat bigger. Have you got the year of this recording?

  • Sumi Jo is BEST SOPRANO! BRAVISSIMA♡

  • she hits all the high notes right!

  • Pure Voice, I Love it!!!!

  • Brava Sumi! One of the best coloratura sopranos alive!
