First off. There are plenty of rap and contemporary R&B groups with Electric Guitar and Bass. There have been various Funk and Classic R&B groups that have that have the classic "rock" lineup. Write aggressive pentatonic riffs with the typical "Rock" song structure. Does that make them rock? Just because a guitar is distorted it doesn't make it rock. Country Rock? Definitely, but not rock in it's truest sense.
