According to Wikipedia. The band couldn't appear on TOTP because Garside had a throat infection. The truth is, they refused to appear on TOTP because they didn't want to 'sell out'. A decision that effectively ended their career. What the fuck where they doing in the Music business in the first place if they just wanted to make songs and not sell? Idiots.
@dirkbogarde44 Yes. But the Clash had already established a solid fanbase (post punk era) & were winning over the mainstream crowd. It's a little like Metallica selling out to the numetal pop scene when they had no need as they already had a loyal, solid fanbase. TOTP was basically the X-factor of it's day (for pop producers of disposable pop garbage & music management) but real bands like Daisy Chainsaw should have taken advantage.
@angels77100 I agree with their stand on this matter. The fact is KatieJane still makes music and is able to sell it at a premium. To me, the sort of people that discover music through whatever the equivalent of TOTP is these days, would taint the music and I admire and respect her for this. I'd rather have it this way than for her to have become massively famous, not be able to handle it then never make music again.
Daisy Chainsaw had to die for KatieJane's rebirth ;-)
@kingquaps Everything you've said is true in my opinion. TOTP & it's audience was nothing but disposable pop garbage. But, the reason you go into the music business to begin with is to SELL as much as you can. TOTP in that respect was the perfect format to launch your career. Which was why Daisy Chainsaw failed. I hated Metallica for years because they sold out. But now I see why. Their music still sucks, but they are players at the end of the day in the world of business.
@angels77100 I guess it depends on their intent, which we'll never know. Some people play music for the love of it and if you get picked up by a talent scout who says "we love you yeah, we love what you got and you've got it truly", you could end up on television. It seems to me that there was a realisation that this wasn't what they wanted but it hasn't stopped them making music (and imo much better music now). You sometimes have to choose between money and integrity I guess.
LOved the Word, Terry was/Is a LeDG, Katie Puckrick , Yup I would SO DO HER, Great Live Bands on, But shame most of the audience were trendy Fooks, who have No Idea about music. hee hee
I saw these guys at TT The Bears place in Cambridge, MA...I dunno. 1990-91(?). They were load, rude, and they didn't give a fuck what we thought of them...amazing!
@RolexTharsus NOOOOOOOOOOOO they were a rare excemption all it was in the 90's was oasis n blur n shitty dance muzakkkk. Daisy Chainsaw were sadly a 1 hit wonder :( was a pity we didn't see more of them !
@psychodamned I think most of the band went into Queen Adreena, at least the singer did. If you haven't heard of them, you should check them out. They are ace.
@LightBahamut The 80's was truely wonderful, the nineties on the other hand was dire, it had flashes of brilliance but was normally totally grey and totally anal. I think we're getting better music now. It was mostly bad dance music and terrible indie ( oasis n blur) in the 90's !
These guys are way too cool for this world.

Vince Johnson is almost certainly the greatest drummer of the 1990s. Possibly even the 2000s.
