You are right in a way that Maori did came out of Hawaiki but it does not refer to Hawaii as Hawaiki is NOT Hawaii. I think youre mistaking Hawaii with Hawaiki of the Maori culture. All of Polynesia traced their lineages back to Samoa(not Hawaii) and one of the island in Samoa is called Savai'i.

These words are one and same Savai'i of Samoa, Havai'i of Tahiti or Marquesas??, Hawaii, Hawaiki of the Maori. All these is traced to the original Savai'i.

However, the maori legends states Hawaiki is the land of their (our) ancestors while Hawaiian people named their island Hawai'i in honour(rememberance) of Havaiki in Marquesas. The Marquesas however named their place(island??) Havaiki in honour of Havai'i(sister island near Tahiti??) and Tahiti named their's in honour of Savai'i in Smoa. This is just a theory
