yay finally after watching several 'wonder kids' who couldnt play 2 bars of this song a real piano version :D
The technical circumstances kinda suck, but thats only 200 bucks for a microphone and an audio interface.. whereas the playing is years of work :o Great playing, a bit too 'technical' though but who cares :)
damn...i learned this on guitar and just took up piano. was looking for a song to learn one lesson in. this is definitely not it. great job though. maybe someday...
It still needs a bit of work on dynamics and some wrong notes, then maybe a more extravagant base at the beginning. But it's on a high level already and certainly better than what most people could do
Great job technique wise, but there was no emotion and it was extremely boring. Way too fast in some parts. You are very talented though, so keep up the good work! Just make it more interesting.
great that you can play all those notes and rhythms! But you hardly did any push and pull of the tempo which this style demands. Also, try for phrasing the melody horizontally instead of everything being vertical.
Magnificent! I love the classics and this is one of them. You play so well. Wish you were near Norfolk, VA, I have you over my house to play my old piano. You could put some life back into this old grand instrument! Best!
I took piano lessons for 7 years and still have not been able to master La Malagueña. This kid has done a pretty good job, a few mistakes here and there, but I'll say that I'm impressed
ough.. i hate how probably one of the hardest parts of this song is teh beginning, no matter how uninteresting it sounds... its so hard to get it to sound fluent...
and you think you can do a better job playing the song?
its obvious that he's just finish learning the song, he just needs to master it and continue practicing till he gets the right speed and the dynamics.
Anyhow, hey, its a start. Some people wouldn't have the guts to try learning something by Lecuona. I don't have the skills yet but its on my "to learn list". All I gotta say, just keep practicing and you shall play it fine :D good luck! :)
idk but i generally start feeling a song (and playing it with feeling) long before i completeley learn it, even when i know only the first parts slowly, i (aswell as most pianists i think) put all the feeling i can, and that keeps me from boring halfway through learning a song. this guy has no feeling whatsoever, its kind of dirty (the song), but that doesnt bother be as much as having no difference almost in the volumes and general expression through the song
The piano is HORRENDOUSLY out of tune. The kid has good technique, but this piece requires some feel which is noticeably absent. It sounds like he learned this piece with a metronome, which is NOT the way it should be played.
This person hasn't mastered the technique required for this piece yet. Even if he did, there would be no sensitivity. It would sound like a midi file being played on high volume.
I wouldn't have made such a critical comment, but this little guy tries to blame the bad performance on a Piano, camcorder, and youtube.
Really, don't lead people on to thinking they're some sort of genius when you don't even have reference for what is good or bad playing. It makes people arrogant and delusional.
i agree with some of the people here. you play very technically, and it seems as if you have no feeling at all. try listening to some recordings of the song, maybe you'll understand them better and you'll feel what the song is trying to express.
very nice! i'm going to play that pretty soon in a recital... i'm a bit nervous.. this one is not easy... plus i have to practice with a keyboard, which means some keys are missing...that sucks... i want my yamaha back :'(
ok man...u play that song like my brother plays that song
i have played that song in Carnegie hall so listen to me....u have NO feelin at all when u play. anyone can sit there and bang away at notes. u have to get into ur music feel it. this is a very passonit song u have to feel it in u.
play a song call Nocturne in E (might b flat) minor by Chopin
Well done musically. In my opinion you are playing a classical version of the piece instead of feeling the underlying tones. Try playing it like a bullfight.
Oops, sorry for marking brett as spam. I was marking camsgirlsusa and accidentally went a little... overboard. Thanks for the comments by the way =) I'll be sure to work on my dynamics more. btw I have a new one up, just search "Meep capriccio"
oh yeah ive finally got it =D check my malaguena out, plz comment, its not even close to perfect i havent played it at any competitions but probably a california comp thats coming up
that was kick ass!!!! you have an awesome feel for rhythym, your timing was right on. totally well-played. i just started this song, i hope i'm as good as you someday haha
Very nice. Like others have said, you can add a little bit more emosion. How many years have you been playing? I am starting this song. Thanks for sharing your talent!
WOW!!! i'm teaching myself how to play this peice right now, and man.. this helped a lot to hear what it's supposed to sound like, this is the exact variation i have of the peice, thanks soo much for letting us hear it. u did awsome!!!!!!!!!!
I should have said "stereotypically Asian playing" The thing is, most stereotypes have a basis in truth, and this is one of those recordings that seems to help perpetuate it.
Totally agree, it's so dull (although played VERY WELL technique-wise), contrasting dynamics, and speeds would really brighten up this performance (I'm aware your camera "is the suck at picking up sound" so i guess that might be the problem").
very nice! im trying to learn this piece but i can never find this piece. david edward smith also plays this piece very nicely and you must have a nice camera or a big room with this beautiful piano in... because this sound quality was very nice!
Very very nice. However as they have said already, add more feeling to this pieace. Lecuona's music is very influentiated by the cuban parties rythm. Almost like dance music, his music has that underlying invitation to dance. So free yousreslf from whats written and experiment with the rythms a little specially on the part where the melody is on the left hand. Very good execution and keep working on that.
You are pretty cool! You have a good technique (quite enough to play this piece). I think you just have to add some more feeling and passion to it. This will increase a lot the result of your (still good) execution!

Absolutely no soul to this performance. There might as well be a robot sitting in the chair.
Oh, and your piano isn't out of tune either. You just hit the wrong keys.

Typical Asian playing.
JFman00 5 years ago
What's that supposed to mean, Bucko?!
kytosht 4 years ago
Technically proficient, musically uninspiring.
JFman00 4 years ago
Do you have any references for your assertion that such attributes are typical for
an Asian? Is the ratio of musically uninspiring to inspiring performers higher for
Asians than non-Asians, or could it be that because many of them study music,
although the aforementioned ratio is the same for all races, the preponderance of
Asian students brings about an illusion?
