He had horizontal motion, then he just rose straight up without even touching the ground again, then when Toguro tried to punch him, he still hadn't touched the ground and he rose even higher, all the way up to kick Toguro's face. Yu yu hakusho is a great anime. If you want to see another good anime, watch aoki densetsu shoot. It aired in Japan in 1994. It even has some characters that look like the guys from Yu yu hakusho. All the episodes are on youtube right now.
