Each one of these games gets better... MW3 was one of my favorite games, until I played MW4, and then it was my favorite game LOL... such a pity that the franchise reboot game won't be coming out. It looks like one hell of a game.
Oh....my God. I haven't watched that video in about 10 years. And I'm 14. Now I really want to play that game. ChromeHounds was stupid. If they ever make another Mech game, it needs to be like this.
Mech warrior 3 was the most accurate mech game in the series, mw4 was alittle..eh, sounded like something in the 1960's ball game if you played the colliseum matches.
@ShadowHero2009 Definitely out of date. The IS/Clan maps changed a hell of a lot in in the short time since the Truce of Tukayyid and the commencement of Operations Bulldog and Serpent.
@Jonbwriter The problem is that the planet was protected by Naval Lasers. That's why the drop went screwy. Until those weapons were taken out, calling for help would have just been getting more people killed.
i don't agree, by the fact that the mechwarrior story was not only in the game but in moives, Tv shows, and books this has One story not alot of stories in one game like Halo or MW 2 this game was also of the best for its time
Could someone help me out? I'm trying to run this on my comp with Windows XP. I know I need to use the windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode, but it's still not working. Am I doing something wrong?
Also I always thought MW3 had the best 'briefings' of any game I've played. The guy always sounds annoyed at how their intelligence sucks and their data is old, basically it was very well assembled, clearly detailed your goals, and told you exactly what to expect.
@Monkeybonk Even with probe data that may be a few weeks or months old, the Jaguars were still weakened and had no time or resources to reallocate their stuff, so at least the stuff stayed where they stayed. Also, some missions had briefing data salvaged during the missions, so some intel becomes updated.
The only thing MW4 did right was the mech bay. The whole point of Omnimech technology was that you had flexibility of armaments, yet in every other Mechwarrior game, you were able to strap LRMs to your feet, or laser boat no matter what chassis you were using. MW4 was far more accurate than any other Mechwarrior game.
HOWEVER, the mech bay was missing a ton of shit and was dumbed-down in terms of equipment such as C3 or CASE. So screw it.
best mechwarrior game ever.. man mechwarrior 4 was dissapointing but this was so technical and so dark it really involved you in the combat and let you fight in a griddy future war
i don't agree, by the fact that the mechwarrior story was not only in the game but in moives, Tv shows, and books this has One story not alot of stories in one game like Halo or MW 2 this game was also of the best for its time
one thing that was in MW2 that was missing from 3 and 4 was CASE and internal Ammunition explosions. It allowed for pilots to take risks in order to get the most from your mech at the possible cost of longevity. It also made overheating a bigger danger. Get too hot and not only did you shut down, but you'd cook off your ammo and blow up from the inside. There was something creepy about that calm voice reporting "internal ammo explosion detected" seconds before you vaporized.
What's what I liked. You're conducting a commando operation with no logistical support. Sure you could use ballistic weapons but when you run low on ammo you'll need to reconfigure to energy weapons.
I always loaded up on clan ER large lasers. They built up lots of heat but you could snipe enemies from long range. ER PPCs are awesome too. Loaded up on 3-4 of those and as many heat sinks I could get, and it's a 1 shot kill on a leg.
I do the same in most 'Mech games except MechCommander and Mechcommander 2, then I most stick with jump-capable 'Mechs and let the pilots use their own judgements
All I remember was every campaign mission with an annihilator mech was a true challenge, seeing them in the battle actually made me tense. All it took was one shot from the lbx10 cannon, then a gyro-overload, and oops! there goes my mech's leg!
Mechwarrior 3 had definitely better sounds and playing it with a forcefeedback joystick mad it all-involving. The gameplay was quite "realistic". But Mechwarrior 4 brought an important tactical improvement, which was the definition of a type for mechs' available slots, so that you could no longer create definitive mechs through the customisation. This made playing Mechwarrior4 in team very interesting.
For the first time for me, this made Mechwarrior/Battletech REAL. The narrator sounds legit, the names are serious and the probe feed imagery seals the deal. If they ever make a movie I hope the follow this example of how to make it.
The little things like needing to realign the probe, the panic while trying to get more information... and the narrator's awesome voice just make this the best intro for a campaign ever. No goofy 'third person' effects and seeing things you shouldn't be able to see just for drama. This is what you get to go on, and then you splash down outside a little fishing village and are told to smoke some Jaguars :D
I loved all Mech games but somehow I jsut quite don't get Mech3. I've no idea why. I've not completed it at all... I lost count how many times I played Mech 2 and Mech 2 Mercs...Enjoyed Mech 4 + xpacs a hell lot too...maybe I should give Mech 3 a try again...
The thing is was the Mech3 was so much more complete, not to mentioned polished. Mech 4 has a very slight graphical advantage over it, but it terms of sheer gameplay, I'd go for Mech 3. I mean, they took a step backwards for Mech4. The interface in 3 was better, your arms actually swivelled realistically, rather than a 90 degree barrel firing at 30 degrees. No MASC, no activateable AMS, no TC, no int-structure/crit slots system. The mechs were realistically damageable in 3. Just..polish.
yeah i loved the machine gun and how it would take off the armor plating and u could see the inside of the mech w00t but in the newer ones...just ok. i liked dropping bridges on ememies. urg the pyramid lvl damn it was tough Annihaltor was the best
That's weird, MW4 felt like a cartoon compared to MW3. I hated how 4 looked sounded and felt, hated how all destroyed mechs went critical even when legged, hated the restrictive mech bay, hated how the cockpits looked worse than MW2's! MW4 was a mess. 3 had a narrow scope but was brilliant in a lot of ways.
I far enjoy Mechwarrior 2, Merc and GBL more then this one BUT I do like the guy who tells you about your missions and the whole "probe" pictures. They really need to make one last Mechwarrior game for the PC but take from the classics, they were the best.
I got this problem with MW3 on the XP: Enemy vehicles seem to jump into the sky like on a trampoline and never come back, making some of my mission objectives impossible to complete. Any idea on how to fix this?
Yeah.. Microsoft just seems to hash games.. The only ones I have been somewhat happy with is CrimsonSkies. Starlancer was good as well but they started fresh so COUDLN'T hash it.

a 45 ton Naval laser on a ton mech(even a 100 ton)? Sounds like you`re equiping an ordinary soldier with a destroyership main gun. One shot and both targets and shooter are pulverized.lol
i remember putting as many PPCs on a mech as i could in mechwarrior 3 i grouped them up and shot at a mech. Blew him up i overheated and was gone...LOL!!!
If you play the RPG, you do know... they're Capital class lasers IE they took lasers offa WarShips and turned them into emplaced weapons. Given that the smallest of them does over three times the damage of a PPC....
Because at most mech ranges it would have no to-hit modifier and would melt a medium mech into a cool looking puddle after one shot? :p
Unfortunately for you, they're about their tonnage in damage, so the smallest (A Naval Laser 45) would be around 45 tons, and the reactor needed to make it is far beyond what a normal mech's reactor can produce.
This is probably the best intro videos to any single player campaign in computer gaming. It doesn't have the flashy combat of some, but it has pretty good acting and actually bothers to present a strategic picture of the situation and a believable military briefing.

I can't believe there were at least 150 dislikes.
MW stood for MechWarrior ever since 1986, NOT Modern Warfare. MechWarrior had a very solid mythos up until the FedCom Civil War...
...what the hell. Most 80's and 90's games had difficulty, and a great fun factor. *headdesk*

I loved the reality of this episode.

@GangsterHutterite yeah, bunches of 13 year olds who've never played MechWarrior trying to find their crappy CoD game intro and finding this instead.
Sad but that's the way life is... great games like this get lost in history while terrible generic FPS games like Modern Borefare get huge popularity.

Yeah, I hated it when I immediately ran out of LRM10 ammo. I'm really good with lasers (M-Pulse Lasers ftw, whether Clan/IS).
At least they gave you mass stocks of Machine Gun, LRM5 and AC10 ammo at first (hey, the AC10 is the best weapon for the first half of the game).
blackyoshi1230 2 years ago
