I'll second that. I thought it was, of course, a 389. I read the comments and found out it was a 455! That rumble really sounds badass! I don't know whether we're conditioned to revere that rumble or whether the V8 engineers back in the day hit on something that was a mechnical marvel and musical one at the same time.

Hey man! It's a solid Comp Cams 290B-6. It needs higher compression and a higher stall converter or a stick trans to compliment it. Jim Butler recommended it to me and I love it! Best cam I've ever had in a Pontiac.

Hi - 65 GTO's came with 389's. I put the later 455 engine in it. It's a 74 block with 1967 GTO heads from a 400 ci block. 455's started being placed in Pontiac's in 1970. Thanks for writing.

This is just great, everyone is so eager to show how they know their Pontiac's. I dont know whats more funny, A. My user name says pontiac ram air gto 1972 & my ownership of such a GTO must mean I have no idea about PMD GTOs or the fake imports. C. vc93integra and darklordsmurf just to let you know pontiac is an Australian car company (holden). we export cars to America and change the name of the car the only thing American about them is the boss who stopped the production of the GTOs, nice burnout though
