  • Man, I would have sworn you were bald!

  • Cool:)

  • ohh. . .i thought it was Summertime from Sublime

  • Another fine (professional) performance, I like it very much and hope you will continue sending your videos on the net. Superb. Thank you. Ciao.

  • Can this be played on a chrometta 8 harmonica?

  • @chrpcyp I'm not sure the range (2 octaves) is enough, but maybe.

  • You know I love all your You-tube perfromances, Al, but I have two problems with this one: (1) I think you started playing the approx. 10 notes too soon starting at 0:50 - in my opinion, it's off the beat; the 2nd time you played it, you waited until the right time and it sounds great. (2) I don't think you should have held the last note so long: at 1:58, the chord doesn't seem to include that note - I don't hear it. What chord is that? I know the note is D; is there a D in the chord???? Barry

  • Wow absolutlet fabulous! I play harmonica by ear but you are a natural!

  • Thanks for sharing man, much appreciated. You remind me how nice it is to actually play something. I'm sure you always enjoy it, youtube or not.

  • it's so hard playing a chromatic when you're used to a ten holer, nice and clean

  • Muy biénnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!! Fantastico y con mucho sentimiento. un 8 de puntuación, pués el 9 y el 10, es para lo practicamente perfecto. Felicidades amigo.

  • qUE ENVIDIA, YA ME GUSTARIA TOCAR COMO TU FELICIDADES

  • wow!

    where's your hat?

  • I was so young and foolish 3 years ago, I must have left it at a wild party somewhere..

  • Alliax-as a professional guitarist and bassist (well some days I am. others not so much) I love how Artie Shaw's version of Summertime right over to left field with Janis Joplin and Sam Andrew covering (barely)... the tune. You choice of harp is excellent getting in all the sharps and flats and what a difference it makes.

Thanks for keeping the background track low! Best wishes.

  • someone have to put him on Business urgent. He is really good

  • Please NO!! I don't want to work :-)

  • Alliax, how did I miss this one? Great job on this and you handled those notes beautifully! Jammin' job.. ! Thanks.. JJ

  • hey i got a question...the 3rd note you play how do you bend it? '' suuuu-meeer tIIIiiiiiime....''...the caps ''i's'',i dont know how else to show you...is it overblow?i cant reach that sound...thanks for posting Mr Harpie guy

    Ps:ALWAYS WEAR HATS...THATS THE STYLE ISN'T IT?

    bless

  • I think overblow is like note bending but on a blow note, the tiiiiiiiiime is on a draw note, so it's just a note bending, a change in the tongue/mouth position to bend the note for a while and then take it back where it started before playing the other note in the melody.

  • thats what i needed to know...that lil sound was wrnog..i was doinng it half tone below the original note...thanks men...post more vids...id like you to show me(us) a song called ''au printemps'' from jacques brel..a belgique singer, ive tryed to make it on my C key diatonic and a few notes arent right...iuf you can and have time..make a vid of this song...thanks a lot man God Bless you

  • I've been looking for some time to buy music sheet book of songs from jacques brel, like I have from georges brassens and charles aznavour, but cannot find it in the same collection. I just can't play songs for which I don't have music sheet or tabs, because it's too long to find the notes by ear. This song au printemps is not one of the best known from jacques brel, there are so many others songs I'd love to play whenever I'll get a music sheet book.

  • ok...post them whenever you get the music sheet tabs...ill be patiently waiting..

  • By the way, sorry but I never let it pass with anybody, God won't bless me because the god thing is just bullshit, things you are being taught when you're a child born in a family where parents have also been taught this religious thing in their childhood. The only way out of this madness is to protect children from the stupid beliefs of their parents. This is not happening anytime soon.

  • badd

  • Overblowing is a technique where you change your embrouchure to snap the note up either a minor third or a major econd depending on the hole. It's not a gradual change like bending, it sort of pops into a different note.

  • no hat?!?!?

  • maybe I was tired, it was a long time ago, I was so young and foolish :-)

  • you have a great collection of hats

  • Well yes, that is a fair comment, although if you negate quality and experience, what's left.let's hear from you in say,30 years.

  • I'm not saying that quality and experience don't matter. I'm not a fool, most of the youtube channels I subscribe to for instance are of experienced people. What I'm saying is that internet at large and youtube in particular allows everyone to publish their content, poor or excellent, and that I don't understand when people think poor content shouldn't be published. That's all I'm saying, it's because internet isn't ressources limited that everyone is welcome to post their "crap" :-)

  • yes,I agree, but what I am saying is that if you cannot improve on him don't post it.

  • Please try to think about "why not posting". Can't you see how pointless it is to say that I shouldn't post if I can't improve on him (or any other talented harmonica player by the way) ? It's like if youtube's ressources were limited and I should save space for others, are you kidding or what?

  • Sorry I didn't see your age, I guess that perhaps explains it, because younger people know that internet is full of less-than-bad covers of all sorts of songs, and that doesn't bother them, that's the richness of internet, you can find all sorts of things, anytime, unlike TV where content is strictly restricted to a selected fews. I hope those old points of view of filtered content will never be implemented to the internet despite numerous attempts.

  • Best left to Larry Adler

  • Yes but he's dead.

  • dont know you...but that was great my friend

  • Very nice tone.

  • Great Job alliax.

Could you please send me the back track of summertime. I really liked this version with the trombone at the back. (or just a video with back tracking I will record just the Audio). thanks

  • Hi, it's a band in a box file, send me an email and I'll look if I still have it somewhere.

  • no hat!

    :O

  • Dude..I've been watching some of your vid. and all of them are awesome. Is there a page where I can get the "tabs" or notes of the songs you play? I would like to play them all ;)

  • Hi, thank you. Unfortunately there's no page with all tabs, a lot of music I play are midi files, paper books and BIAB files.

  • nice. do you know where i could find the notes for this song on chromatic?

  • I just had WaltP do it on harptabs!

    Enjoy,

    LA

  • u rock

  • Wow no hat! Gettin brave, lol!!! Ur ace tho

  • i play a chromonica myself, they are definately nicer than your diatonic.

  • Thanks for posting this. It's truly perfection and inspired me to try an a capella version.

    Thanks again,

    HFH

  • sounds great. i am a blues harp player mostly, but recently forced myself to start learning the diatonic. I am playing with a Chrometta 12.

how are you getting the bending sound on the draw 7 on the summer -TIIIIIME? it sounds just like a draw bend on a blues harp, but I can't seem to get the inflection down. any tip for a beginner chromatic player? also on the draw 5...

  • sorry, i meant "recently forced myself to start learning the chromatic"

  • You certainly know how difficult it is to explain to someone else how to bend a note! But with chrometta and other chromatics I've noticed that you should try everything SOFTLY, if you know how to bend a note on a diatonic, try slowly on a chromatic, from normal position to a note bending position and stop when it doesn't work anymore. You cannot bend the chromatic as hard as a diatonic, not even 50% as hard !

  • thanks. good advice. your fast version of this song is also amazing, as is moon river. you are an inspiration to all of us.

  • fantastic. i really enjoyed that. i'm a beginner (diatonic), and other harp players tell me to stay away from chromatics. you make it sound so simple. is it necessary, do you think, to master the diatonic before getting good results on the chromatic?

  • Hahaha, if it was necessary I wouldn't play at all, because I choose chromatic BECAUSE I was getting nowhere with the diatonic! The chromatic has all the notes in one instrument, I don't need to learn to bend the note, and the holes are bigger! I'm still bad with the diatonic because I didn't practise!

  • wow. thanks for responding -- that is really good to know. may i ask another? do read music? do you have a background with other instruments?

  • Hi, I don't have background with other instrument, I now read music enough to play with the harmonica by training a little before, but I've learnt in many years, simply by writing my own tablature over real sheet music. I would advice to spend the time and effort to learn it as it saves times afterwards, but I was too lazy to learn it seriously, so I just learnt it by doing the transcriptions over years.

  • hola, has tocado "I wish you love" y "the look of Love"?

    Soy la tia

    entiendes bien el español?

  • no soy guille988.. soy la tia, no se mucho de you tube pero envie el mensaje, sorry

  • Está bien :-)

  • bueno... muy bueno, sigue asi!!

  • Gracias por su observación.

  • The American people is one bosta (with rare excessões), but to hear jazz, is excessively (obviously has influence estrangeira)e the musica Harmonica - Summertime is a test indissoluvel, hears, the false puritanos and pretense owners of the world, do not have inteligencia capacity nor to create such musica

  • I'm sorry I don't understand all your comment because I miss some vocabulary, but just to let you know that I'm not from America. Bye.

  • My expensive alliax, does not import its nationality, with certainty in its country, you must be illiterate, therefore I will not lose time with its person, wants to appear? it hangs a watermelon in the neck, you it thinks very and it does not know what it says.

  • hy I' m a beginner player, I started playing harmonica 4 months ago after I had seen your video of Brassens' "Je me suis fait tout petit".

I started to play with a chinese 4 octaved harmonica that someone gave me as gift ten years ago and I had never played until last july, Now I' ve a chromonica 270. I love play it. I have to tank you!!!

Ps How you can bend on chromatic harmonica?, I thought it was impossible.

  • Hi, I'm happy that you started playing the chromatic and that you work on it, because I love listening to other chromatic players on youtube. I think we can blend also on chromatic but way less than diatonic, so you do the same as with diatonic but a version "light" if you do it as hard as a diatonic then it won't work, you need to do it smoothly on a chromatic.

  • Alliax,

Thanks for the great music. Your playing is just beautiful. Can you recommend any books or lessons for someone wanting to learn to play the chromonica?

    Thanks...Franko

  • Hi, thanks, I answered your other comment already. I can just tell you what I did, after learning to play the basics with a method + CD, I searched for music sheets of some of my favorite songs and painfully tried to transcribe the music into tab notation and then play it along a mp3, and then little by little I now can read music sheet directly and I have better technic than before, that's about it!

  • what about the hohner special 20?? i heard that's good for beginners? argh i dunno which one to get...:! atm i only have this £1.99 one which obv isn't very good (high and low notes don't work without much force)

  • I don't know about the hohner special 20. I know that Hohner CX12 is very good to the lips and has a nice touch feeling, but I don't play mine anymore because of some broken notes and I didn't fix it. I like Hohner Chrometta 14 enough so that I can play only this one.

  • The Hohner Special 20 is a diatonic harmonica. I have one and really like it actually. But I have way too many harmonicas myself. I like the Chrometta 14 like alliax uses for a good chromatic harmonica (I bought it after watching his videos).

  • I LOVE it! I think you would look better with a pair of my unnies on your head, but then, I am a perv*L*....GREAT job!

  • What type of music could i play with a Chrometta 10?

  • lots.all you want

  • One of my all time favorites,, Love the way you play. I'm just a beginner but i have been listening and learning how you play Thanx for video cant wait to find more of your stuff to listen to

  • You're welcome.. I'm also selling a DVD with all my videos in higher sound and image quality. Anyway, I'll try and record some more before the end of the month

  • u r 1 friggin unique individual..

  • Thanx 4 the advice!

  • ur really good!!! I've never been much of a harmonica kind of person, but I think I'm gonna get one now that you've showed what obvious hard work pays off for. Thanx!!!

  • Hi, if you do then don't the same mistake as I by mischoosing your instrument to start. So my advice for you is either the hohner chrometta 12 or the hohner CX-12 more pricey but very nice too!

  • Great. What Key?? and..Is that a Golden Melody??

  • it's always the same harmonica: hohner chrometta 14 in C

  • Beautiful!!!

    Greetings from Spain

  • Thanks from China

  • I wish i could play like that you make it look so easy.. brilliant sound thanx gonna get mine out now and have a go

  • Nice playing, I'm glad you're still sticking with it.

  • o ok thanks!

  • where did you get that midi file?

  • i don't remember now, just googled it!

  • Wow. Fantastic! Thank you for all your videos and for ignoring 'negative' comments. What joy you bring with your playing!

  • Straight up LOVEd it!!!!

  • Larry Adler would also enjoy this

  • would have... unfortunately he's not with us anymore... anyone has Toots email address? :-)

  • Bravo! You really give it soul! Nice background track, too. Is it a CD?

  • Hello, thank you, no it's not a CD, it's a midi file.

  • WICKED!

    LOVE IT!

  • fantastic playing. thankd for good time

  • You're welcome!

  • Whoa, bruddah! Just when I thought nobody cared about the harmonica anymore! I was floored!

  • If you go to the harmonica group on youtube you'll see more of harmonica amateurs.

  • Wow how cool is this? TOO COOL !

  • Great playing ...what key harmonica are you playing.I like the sound

  • Thanks, it's a Hohner Chrometta 14 holes in C

  • Nice intonation and vibrato.

  • Nice Job, Toots would be proud.

  • Found this by your video response to Troubleclef's guitar version of this song. I absolutely love a good harmonica... and youre very good ! Kudos
