I love this song and have heard many different singers attempt it. Yours is by far the best version. You sing it with emotion and sincerity when most singers are just singing the words. Thank you.
this is a wonderful cover, very well done.....i enjoy the thoughtful, seasoned version here......rather than the upbeat, kooky versions that sound like beer-hall music.......beautiful song and you render it well.........well done.........BRAVo
@TheSaffronrose Thanks very much. I only really know Archie's version which I tried to figure out - as so often happens I often just love the song so much that I'll work out a more personal arrangement. Hope you find some other interesting songs.
@MrWaybacker I have a rendition of this song by the Waybacks on their CD "Devolver" The pace, the voice, the unique variations of the instruments, in my opinion make it the best I have heard. I wish someone would post it on You Tube. Not to take away from LiteGauge who sings the original Archie Fisher version. The Waybacks sing the version of dearly departed Stan Rogers of whom I am more familiar. I'm pleased to find others who have heard The Waybacks sing The Witch of the Westmoreland :D
I use to hear Stan do this live so, it brings back some memories to hear you do it and do it well!! Thanks again. Are you in Ontario Canada by any chance?
@Fartheralongcove No, I'm over in France. I come over to Ontario and Quebec every now and then to visit family and friends - always with great pleasure.
That's a really nice cover of the song; other versions that I've heard go quickly, so it's hard to follow the lyrics of what is essentially a story. I'm collecting songs to sing to my young son; this song is top of the list to go into my repertoire, and your version is the best I've found for that purpose. Nice one.
I do know the Stan Rogers version better to be honest. I got a kick out of it the other day; my English teacher is a big fan of the ballad, and a great musician, and played it for us in class. First time I've heard it played live, and oh boy, it was a treat.

@TheHobbgobblin Thanks very much! I've tried to keep this as close as possible to the styleof Archie Fisher's original version.

Your instrumentation is nicely different from Archie's and Stan's, and I do like it. Your phrasing is very nice, as well. I'll check your channel!

I've always loved this particular ballad; my friends used to laugh because I was always going about humming it. You do an excellent cover of it!

Thanks very much. In Canada, you may know the Stan Rogers version better than the original - I really like both.
