Have you heard of Vas, Delerium, or Irfan? They have good background music too. I also like Dargaard, Autumn Tears, and Dark Sanctuary, they have dark themes, and no or foreign lyrics. I use a lot of Anime instrumentals in my D&D games as well.
Aside from old game soundtracks, you ever mess with movie soundtracks like from braveheart or Last of the Mohicans? I really like "The Kiss" off the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack for my campaigns
For extra music get the soundtrack for the game rise and fall civilizations at war(that game is now free to play and download so just find the audio files are use them)
Watched it once, to listen to you talk, listened to it a second time, to write down all the artists you mentioned. Well done Esper, like all of your videos, cheers and best wishes!
Thnx for the vids check out my middle earth network radio it's all Tolkien inspired artists as well be shure to try the lord of the rings online sound shout out to the lonely mountain band
Thanks for sharing your list of fave songs to use while DMing. I just want to ask you a few things, seeing as you're very skilled at it.
I'm working on my own D&D world, (it's more of a pokemon D&D game, please don't judge me for it), and I'm wondering what boss battle songs you'll use?
I also want to know if you have any links to sites where I can make my own maps for areas, towns, kingdoms, etc.
This is fantastic :) I have been struggling a bit lately with music for my sessions. My problem has been that I always seem to use the LotR soundtrack - the downside of which is that I can rarely use a track from the album for a single emotion or ambience since it changes quickly to another style after a few minutes.
I have been working with 300 and Baldur's Gate, but now I feel like I have enough various artists to make proper playlists with carefully selected tracks. This video was helpful :)
Favorited! I'm always trying to find ways to evoke a certain atmosphere for my gaming groups. Music is one of the best ways to accomplish this and you've listed many things I haven't heard of. I'll definitely be listening to some of them to see if any suit my needs. Thanks.
Don't forget about Turisas & Nightwish! They do use a lot of lyrics, but the music is still great! I know that Nightwish's "Dark Passion Play" Platinum Edition has a second disc with many instrumental tracks of their songs.
Oh shit, sorry, second variant is push not slide. Incase you're wondering this is every round since it's a special OA exclusive to sigil carvers. Build is paladin/swordmage hybrid, but yeah, it's basically flail combo vs hammer comboo attached to the excellent paladin basic attack at-wills using power of sea to squeeze it in the Sigil Carver OA.
Hey I've been following you for a while and have a quick question since you DM so much, which variant of my build would you fear more whenever you attack my allies I could build to retaliate with one of the following, an attack that would either slide 6 knockdown and slow, or an attack that would slide 7 or 8 and daze (or slow but not both.)
I realize artillery won't care nearly as much about being knocked across the map and dazed, but I mean overall, which punishment is worse? (Defender obv.)
@repsesper But overall would you be more fearful of a player who can slide and slow/knockdown or a player who can push further and daze? Wouldn't daze be considered an overall more potent debuff?
@repsesper About the keeping the sounds accessible... google for Softrope. I think you'll like it, especially if you like adding sound FX and music :)
Nice list of bands. I find that by typing in instrumental bands on pandora dot com you can find other instrumental songs and bands. Check out free Creative Commons music, as you can use it in YouTube videos without YouTube yanking your video from YouTube. I have used lots of Celestial Aeon Project's music because it was free and Creative Commons.
and a few others from that sound track are quite good and ambient
also the 2001 Troika game: Arcanum has one or two good tracks, however i find that most of the album sounds too similar : youtube.com/watch?v=MPjyQtWHbGQ
EnviroAmbient's Mirkwood is a private video. :/
I can't watch it.

The best music I've found is from the game called NieR. The singer came up with a fake language for all of the songs.

@Coldbrand This is a very situational question. Different effects are better than others depending upon the types of enemies and the terrain.

@repsesper Remember this is an at-will thing so for overall across the entirety of a campaign starting at around 16 or so.
