Whoops, SOPA and Protect-IP are not the same thing. SOPA is the house of reps's bill while Protect-IP is the senate's bill. Also, have you seen some of the reports that came out of the "marking period" for SOPA? Congress really thought what they were doing was reasonable. They know nothing about the Internet and they were just following what Hollywood told them to do. They're much too ignorant to come up with a clever plan like that.

As for SOPA... that's Stop Online Piracy... and its making its way through a House Committee for markup. Protect Intellectual Property Act is PIPA a similar but different act making its way through the Senate. While the tech community is marshaling forces against both, it appears that Hollywood and the music industry own enough Senators and Representatives to pass it. Best chance to stop it is in the Senate where it may be filibustered.
