If I were to get an arcade cabinet, this game would be it. The only game I paid the most attention to at Chucki Cheese's when I was a kid in the 90's.
The only crappy part of this game is the gauntlet stage what laziness by Konami. Also no Beebop wtf. Game plays smoother then Turtles in Time just can't compete on presentation or level variety.
Tatsu was one of my favorite characters,in my opinion if Turtles didnt gang up on him in Movie two,he would be able to put a decent fight, against one Turtle at least
Dude amazing review i loved it. Hyperstone and tournament fighter on NES are the two games im still trying to get my hands on. keep up the great reviews and vids man. take care
Great review Bracey! I like how you added the clips of Tatsu. LOL @ your "whirling tornado of foot-slaying carnage" comment! You always provide great commentary! I definitely have to add this game to my collection.
The one thing that I rember about the turtle games where all the diffrent ways the enemies would enter the screen. That element seems to be present in this game to even tough you didn't mention it!
Yet another game I've been meaning to pick up that you decide to cover. I missed this release back then because I was busy with Turtles in Time on SNES. I'm definitely going to be adding this one to my collection.
I could be biased, but for me the best turtles game is Turtles in Time on the SNES. While this game is good, TNT imo has superior music, stages, and atmosphere. Even the intro , and character select screen are better on the SNES. TNT also has a practice fighting game mode that allows co-op!
But since I own a genesis I wouldn't mind picking this one up. Didn't know the TNT had a sequel on the genesis.
Great stuff!! I was always a fan of the "Turtles" games but ironically, this is one I never got to play back-in-the-day ( I ended up getting Turtles in Time instead). Wish I could have! I will have to pick it up! :)
I've been on a Konami kick lately and I fired this game up in my Genesis emulator last night just to give it a try and ended up not being able to stop playing. There are several points that make this better than Turtles in Time in my opinion. I agree 100% with points that you brought up and I would add to that that the enemy AI seems more aggressive in this one and it really adds to the competitive edge. It seems like Konami was so associated with nintendo at that time that any of the great
(cont) SEGA exclusives they did such as this, Castlevania Bloodlines, and Rocket Knight Adventures went mainly overlooked until recently which is really a shame. Needless to say after playing this, I'll be getting a copy ASAP.
A lot of people I know think of this game as a watered down port and in some ways it is but I always found the music better in this version than Turtles in Time believe it or not. The gameplay is also refined over Turtles in Time with better hit detection and control and the additional dash button makes things much faster paced. It's not as big and epic as Turtles in Time but I find Hyperstone Heist a lot funner to sit down and play.
@90snintendodude I hear ya! I spent ungodly amounts on the first Turtles arcade game as a kid. I really enjoyed the Tournament Fighters games too on the SNES and Genesis that came later on, too!

@neosquared Could have been Bebop and Rocksteady.

@snowcon3 Maybe Rocksteady, but I think Bebop wasn't in this game, so he's probably happy he didn't get beat up.

This is the best 16-bit TNMT beat'em up hands down. Sharper graphics and better controls FTW!
It's such a great game that I almost repent selling my copy a while back......
