Marc Summers is such a nice guy, I've had the liberty of speaking to him once on Facebook, he's even annoyed at how Nickelodeon is running nowadays! The "No Gak in the World" thing came true, sadly, but in 2012, it came back! ^_^!
Nickelodeon Studios closed because of multiple reasons. The biggest one was that the network's viewers (which at the time were still primarily "90's Kids") lost interest in game shows. Nickelodeon couldn't produce the types of programs viewers wanted in Orlando because actors refused to leave Los Angeles. No actors = no shows. Kids stopped visiting the Studios to take the tour & visit the Gift Shop even on the days when the rest of Universal was packed.
we already brought back 90s nick, why not bring back the studios!!! I know i'm not the only one who wants it open. come on people lets do this! thumbs up so people can see
Uploading this in a way served the same purpose; it's interesting looking at all these things almost 20 years on and thinking of how different the world was back then.
If Nickelodeon had left the time capsule behind when it closed Nickelodeon Studios and pulled out of Universal, it would have been considered abandoned property. Universal could have dug it up & discarded it.
The time capsule needs to stay with Nickelodeon…and the Nick Hotel was a logical choice for its new home.
DO you know where/or what they did with the big orange sign, and the slime geyser, nick at nite taxi and slime truck? whered they put everything outside after the studios closed?
The disposition of those items was never documented. A while back, Josh Yawn (he created that awesome tribute to Nickelodeon Studios video) was asked about the "Nickelodeon" sign and he felt that it was probably junked. My guess is that the geyser, taxi & truck were also disposed of. Only the time capsule is known to exist.
If the sign, geyser, taxi & truck still exist, someone is doing an amazing job of keeping them out of the public eye.
I was 12 years old when this capsule was buried. I remember voting on the contents and watching the live event. They should have just left it where it was, as a permanent landmark at Universal. I wonder if it's new burial place is even marked or viewable to visitors? There's no mention of it on the hotel's website that I could find.
There are pictures of the time capsule as it appears today at the Nick Hotel posted on the Internet. They were taken by people who stayed there. My understanding is that it's located near the hotel's main entrance.
Today's average Nickelodeon viewer was born around the time Nickelodeon Studios was starting to wind down. As such, the time capsule doesn't mean as much to them as it does to "90's Kids". That's partly why the capsule isn't mentioned on the hotel's website.
@bewarethedecks- Thank you for mentioning this. Of this I will be sure to investigate.
I was born in 1991. I consider myself a '90s kid, and I assume that I am one, but I think I have had some people disagree with me. I could be off. Not positive. Numbers are my weak point. Nevertheless, I do remember the time capsule. Faintly, but I still recall it. My long-term memory is monumental. My short-term - dreadful. I was about 1/2 years in 1992, but I remember loads. :)
The time capsule needs to stay on Nickelodeon property. That's why it was moved to the Nickelodeon Suites Resort. If the complex @ Universal is still around in 2048, the time capsule could always be brought back and opened on that very spot.
Doc was right about there being no slime in the future. Nick doesn't even use slime on any of their shows. Good thing they put some for everyone to remember what Nick was all about.
It's sad that Nickelodeon Studios is gone now. I only went there once in 1998 when I was 9 years old and my sister was 7.They should have at least kept the Time Capsule there out of respect. It's weird that in 9 days it will be 18 years that the Nickelodeon Time Capsule was buried, I feel so old :(
It's looks like Doc Brown was right about there not being any Gak in the future, to bad he couldn't have warned us about there not being any Slime in the future either other than Brainsurge and The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards that's the only time we get to see Slime.
When the time capsule was buried, nobody knew that, some 8 or 9 years later, there would be a major change in the types of programs the network's viewers wanted.
This change....along with popular actors refusing to move from Hollywood to Orlando to work at the Studios and a large drop in the number of visitors to the facility....resulted in the closing of Nickelodeon Studios and the time capsule being moved to the Nick Hotel.
I remember this!! Would've been funny if Doc had said, in the future, Nick is going to have horrible shows and totally forsake the generation that gave it it's claim to fame in the first place! Lol. Gosh I miss old Nick....
does anyone know where exactly its buried at the nick hotel? those assholes, they shouldve left it where it was buried, at the "first world headquarters for kids"
I think Nickelodeon should play old Nick shows in June dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the opening of Nick studios. It may have closed but what an awesome tribute that would be. The shows should consist of the ones that were taped in the studios like all of the old game shows and stuff.
i wasn't around when the time capsule was buried, but i lived long enough to see the awsomeness of nick in the 90's. now 8 days after my april birthday, im goin' to florida! also just imagine what the twinkies and gum will look like in 2042
I was only 12, though nearly 13 when I recorded this back in 1992. I remember it quite vividly. It was during the evening, about 70 degrees with fair skies. Well, at least that was what the weather was like from my location in Central IL.
If Marc Summers is still alive when this is opened in 2042, he will be 90, and if Melissa Joan Hart is still alive then, she'll be 66. Also, the teenagers viewing this will be reaching retirement age when the time capsule is opened, and lord knows how the world will be different and our way of life will be by then.
Time capsules are so weird. Weird thinking how all these children in the video are already in their 20s. Even weirder thinking how they'll all be adults; I wonder if any of them will be present for the opening of the time capsule.
The world sure has changed since 1992, Nickelodeon included. The "theme park" has already become somewhat outdated. With the economy in the dumper and the nation in "decline", 2042 seems like forever away. :x
Wow, Just Wow can't wait for it to be reopened on April 30th,2042 I would have thought the idea of this ended once the studios closed I'm happy the reburried it at the Nicktoons Resort!
And to think, I went there in March and stood on a metal plate that went over the hole that the time capsule was in. Everyone here thought Nick Studios would be around for another 50 years- It didn't even survive for another 15 years after this.
The 4 people who disliked this are heartless, 2000s kids!
