The show could have had a better ending if Fred married Donna and Lamont married Janet and move out of his father's house to start a new life with his new family. Instead, the ending of Sanford and Son occurred when Fred graduated with a high school diploma.

I didn't like this twist in the storyline. Janet left the show and then the show was cancelled after just five or six more episodes. I think it would have been awesome to end this great series with Lamont and Janet getting married and they all (Fred included) had moved into a nice house in a better neighborhood. That could have been a one-hour special (i.e.--The Series Finale) and could have ended the series on a great note.

In the later years, Lamont seem to humble himself as he matures throughout the show's run. Lamont was very disrespectful to his father's wishes when he wanted to marry Donna in the first season of the show. Heck, he could have been out on his own if he allowed Fred to marry Donna.

@2Phaktor Demond Wilson did seem unenthused during the last season. Still, having the show without him wouldn't have worked. Redd Foxx tried to revive the show in 1980 (remember "Sanford"?) and it just wasn't the same without Lamont around.
