Yes... looking back, the worst day at Ft Huachuca ws the day I left. The Sierra Vista area was great place back then. I did vist SV in 1989 and so many changes happend, it turned into a bigger city than it was in the late '70s. I still have great memorys and wold love to go back someday to live there.
I'm moving there too seirra vista looks amazing, I live in alaska, sure it might be the last frontier but you only get to see the forest during summer witch is only like 3 months long, rest of the year it -40 weather and 3 feet of snow but that place just looks like HEAVEN, but im hearing about the trash there, kinda worrys me about living so close to the border please anybody can you give me some information about this place I really want to know Thankyou!.
WOW!!!! I was stationed at Ft Huachuca ( Fort We Got Cha) as we called it back in 1977 - 1980. Forscom Test Company & INSBD. This video is great , I wished I never left Arizona!
@exlamb I WAS STATIONED AT FORT HUACHUCA 1958 TO 1961 IT WAS RAW AND MOSTLY UNCHAGED FROM THE LATE 1800'S. THE CHARLESTON ROAD TO TOMBSTONE WAS INTACT AS WELL AS TOMBSTONE ITSELF. I PLAYED IN A BAND OFFPOST (THE MILITARY INN). AS WELL AS PLACES IN DOUGLAS, AGUA PRIETA, AND BISBEE. SUE AND HERBS DRIVE IN ONE OF THE PLACES TO GO
that sucks that you cant feel safe exploring the area without worrying about some damn smuggler hiding in some canyon! does that water just fizzle out as it makes its way down into the desert?
I hiked many of the canyons on the Sierra Vista side of the Huachuca Mountains and never encountered any illegal aliens or smugglers. I only saw hikers, birders and other tourists in general. However, I would be more cautious hiking the western side of the mountains, as that area is very remote and isolated.
Yes, the water just fizzles into the air because it is so dry:)
I lived there for 6 years, when I was young. I consider it my hometown, and miss it quite a bit. I plan on going back one day, along with both of my older brothers. Thank you very much for the video :) Increases my determination to return later on.
There is no denying that Sierra Vista has great scenary, but you get used to it after awhile. Then you become bored because there isn't much to do there and you can't really hike the mountains without being a border patrol agent because there is a good chance you will get shot and killed by an illegal sitting in the mountains watching out for border patrol agents in order to guide the illegal immigrants without being spotted. I lived there when I was in the patrol
All that is true. However, I hiked many of the trails on the eastern side of the mountains (And some of the trails on the western, more remote side) and never encountered any illegals or dangerous situations. I think because I was just a hiker, and not a border patrol agent, I wasnt much of a target.
I grew up there...I know every inch of the Huachuca Mountains on Hoof and Foot. Sadly nobody has posted the destruction that the illegal immigrants are causing. Literally acres of land in Miller and Carr Canyon are now covered with trash from illegal human and drug smuggling. It is no longer safe to hike or camp. I still do, when I visit. But never without dogs and guns.
I spent just a couple of months at Ft.Huachuca in 1989 but I recall nearly every day of that stay. The South West is beautiful and majestic, and Sierra Vista is a great place to see it.
