  • I am having same problem on my Fat PS3 backwards compatible model. I am hoping its just the HDMI and not the graphics chip going bad since it has been getting heavy use since PS3 release date. I am noticing this in other games as well like uncharted 3 , DC universe, and GTA4 (which never had flickering textures before). Hopefully someone knows a solution. I will try a new HDMI and see if it helps.

  • @JohnnyX262 Glad to know I'm not alone! I'm also getting it in other games like Resident Evil 5, Eternal Sonata, and Battlefield 3. Let me know if the HDMI cable solves it, until then I'll be looking for fixes and let you know if I find anything.

  • @aoisenshi05 I tried unplugging and plugging back in the HDMI and a new HDMI. It didn’t seem to solve problem. I have noticed one thing however; it seems to only occur after the internal fan hits its third cycle or when you have been playing for a while. Before then it rarely occurs or is almost nonexistent. I am thinking it’s the graphics chip. It must be getting hot really quickly. My next step is maybe applying some fresh Thermal compound to the chip since I did get YLOD about a year ago.

  • @JohnnyX262 I was hoping it was just the HDMI cable, but I knew it probably wasn't. I used to have a really bad habit of leaving my PS3 on for days at a time, using it as a Netflix machine. Stupid, I know... Let me know how it goes with the thermal compound. I've read other cases of this happening with the same PS3 model, and their solution was to simply buy a new PS3.

  • @JohnnyX262 I was just playing Red Dead Redemption and after about 10 minutes of playing, the entire screen went black except for the heads-up display (like map). The game continued on as normal though. Did you seem to make any progress?

  • @aoisenshi05 I have been doing alot of research in hopes that it is something else. One thing I have found that it may not be the chip, it may be a bad soldering point when I fixed my YLOD. I have a 1 year warrenty on my repair so the GPU is getting reballed for free. After that I was told it could also be the thermal compound which I suspected before. If you haven't ever gotten YLOD, it might be a good idea to change the thermal compound and clean system.

  • I have run it in both my fat original 60gb launch PS3 and my slim PS3, and I don't have these problems. Perhaps is your HDMI cable if you are using one. I had a similar problem with my stepson PS3 where the HDMI cable went bad. Now I keep 2 spare HDMI cables at home just in case. Don't spend too much money on these cables, for I did not pay more than $10 for mine.
