Thanks for the excellent example. I have been using my own variation with the braid tied around the leader as the last knot. I will give this a try, as it looks as though you are tying the braid around itself at the end. Or, is it that you are tying the braid around both the leader and itself?
i was showed to tye it a difrent way but then i tried this way and it worked much better the knot always came out nice and neat and never broke on big casts or good fish.
I was using 50lb power pro briad as main line and 60lb YOZURI flourocarbon as shock leader. Rod was a 3 peice 16ft with 9 guides. Knot used was from a knot book and was called twisted leader knot from Geoff Wilson's COMPLETE BOOK OF FISHING KNOTS AND RIGS.Thanks mate.
Ok, makes sense. Ditch the fluorocarbon and get some Black Magic Supple Trace 60lb as shock leader. The twisted leader knot is probably the worst casting knot in the world. Try the slim beauty for your application, only use fluorocarbon for hook leaders, it is far to stiff for a casting leader. Set you leader length so there are 6 wraps on your reel when your sinker is hanging level with the stripper guide on your rod. Fire away, good luck.
G'day mate, I tried casting with a shock leader and the knot I used between the shock leader and main braid line was hitting/touching the guides and significantly affected my distance. How do i tackle this problem?
Thanks for the vid. Big help

Just remember to keep your casting motion very slow but always accelerating. Let the rod do the work.
